Rainbow Six: Lockdown Demo out

Tried it earlier tonight. It's basically became an on-rails shooter compared to other Rainbow Six games.

Looks like it took a turn towards the one man army approach. :|

OH HELLS YEAH! Now, let's see if they've redeemed themselves@

Eh, tried it... I hate the fact that there's no planning stage, like in the original. Also, yeah, this is just a shooter, basically. It's almost like Ghost Recon 2 in first-person in buldings, with the Rainbow Six logo on it. So, if you liked GR2 as compared to GR1, then you should like this. I personally thought GR2 was crap because it lost the tactical aspect of the game, just like this Rainbow Six game.

ffs, why can't they bring back the planning from the original and stop trying to make it a POS one man army shooter

Because POS One Man Army Shooters sell. People don't care about the planning.

So, is this a tactical shooter or a one man army shooter? Is this realistic? I don't want a health bar.

Ummm... well, you have teamates that you can give very basic orders to... but you can;t really plan anything. And you can be shot three times before you die, same with your teamates. No realistic damage or anything like limping, just you get shot and lose one health box. Very simplistic. Very unrealistic.

I was hoping that this would be a worthy sequal to Raven Shield at least.

:(

This is nothing like Ravenshield.. I can't believe what has happened to Rainbow Six. It's not even Rainbow Six, it's... uh, Army Sqaud, except a little better.

same thing that happened to Ghost Recon, bullshit consoleization, go to hell ubi :(

Dumb consolers can't be expected to sit and plan out their attack. Another case of consolitis.

well that was a let down, the graphics is great tho
i was just running and shooting =\, no tactics, no manuevers(sp?) no nothing :(

imo Raven Shield was the best R6 ever
Ghost Recon 1 on PC was great, Ghost Recon 2 i played it on the XBOX i liked it, tho its not as good as the PC version
Lets hope the next PC's Ghost Recon live to the Ghost Recon name.

But for now .. ME WANT ARMED ASSAULT !

I oringally didn't like Raven Shield, but now I love it. Planning out attacks, what weapons to use, opening and grenading. Though extremely hard in later levels.

the xbox version isnt all that bad, it's GR2 with different skins and more indoor enviroments, fun in co-op not much else. I've played part of the sp but it was rather uninspiring and I mostly runned and gunned my way through the first few levels and gave up out of boredom. I'm disappointed that the pc version doesnt deviate from the gameplay of the console

I think fps are dying on the pc (albeit a slow painful death) which is strange because fps used to be it's bread and butter but I guess too many developers are throwing resources into developing for multiple platforms to bother with feature packing their games solely for pc users. As the gaming market continues to grow more gamers will simply buy consoles instead of shelling out $1500 for a pc that plays games that are identical to games made for a $300 console. Developers (for the most part, valve, blizzard and others being the exception) are missing out on a golden opportunity here. Instead of alienating pc gamers they should try to strengthen the pc market by tailoring it to a more robust gaming experience. Bring back the Rainbow 6's, bring back the story heavy fps (like Marathon ..Marathon had more story in one level than all of halo combined) They'll keep their customer base and hopefully bring in new customers looking for something more than what consoles currently offer

I agree CptStern, infact FPS have fallen quite far behind that RTS's are currently the king of the market. RTS's have actually really taken a foothold.

Now umm wheres Sc2!!!! Ahhh!!!

I actually think its really good, and yes, I have played Raven Shield, which I also loved.

ya I totally agree, rts have made a big resurgeance in the last year or so ..which is kinda scary imho as I dont want the pc to be pigeon holed as the platform that plays rts, or MMO's, or even fps ..I want the industry to make their games as in depth as rpgs or rts for all their titles not just concentrate on one or two genres

eeww just finished playing it. That was really really really bad. A massive step back in so many areas. Visually did anyone find the animations really dumb looking compared to previous rainbox 6 games, even Rogue spears looked better.

ehhhhh

wtf?? what have they done? I havent played this yet but health bars?? Are you kidding what have they done?!! no mission planner!?! holy crap, this is terrible. another franchise that went all consolized and ran itself into the ground. unbeliveable.

I played it for five minutes (give or take a few) before deciding it was crap. The atrocious title screen music was the first bad omen. It's like they tried to fuse some sort of techno with rock (not an uncommon thing) and turned it into aural rape by purely deliberate methods. The second was in seeing female operatives on my team. I'm hardly a sexist, but the idea of having women on the world's top counter-terrorism squad, where absolutely flawless and unparalleled reflexes, stamina and physical excellence are necessary, nay, essential, is a bit of a shock. Next, we'll be seeing Sam Fisher paired up with a suave female operative in tight black leather who is more able than he is. My fears came to pass when the game turned out to be total garbage, as foretold.
I remember Rogue Spear having a female operative or two, but if I remember correctly, they were snipers, which us fine. Females do actually make pretty good assasins, and can do very well when it comes to sniping, but the one in this game just looked dumb. It was like seeing Michelle Rodriguez in SWAT - actually, that's a very good analogy to the whole situation.... Damn, I'm good

Females make excellant assasins, if TV's taught me any thing all they need to do is go

....:cat:
And then the man guard will go...ooooo... and then she will kick him in the balls and he'll die!

I do sort of like the intuitive way you can control your squadmates by clicking on a spot on the ground, as seen in Brothers in Arms, but it'd be nice if you didn't have to use it. At least three times my teammates got stuck on a corner. And yes, this is in less than five minutes of playing the game. They were slaughtered as soon as they showed their faces around the bend, too. There's no satisfaction in the takedowns, either. When shooting people in a game is not stimulating, and that is the primary gameplay element, your game has serious defects.

The damage system is incredibly strange. There are three health icons, and one time, I was shot repeatedly and suffered only one icon's worth of damage. However, the next time, back at three bars, I was instantly killed with just one shot and no warning as to where it came from.

The graphics are decent, but not oustanding. I had HDR lighting enabled, but I could not tell what the hell it did, because everything was much too dark and there seemed to be no bloom or light level adjustment effect present. The character models seemed exactly the same as those in Raven Shield, which just doesn't hold up today. The only good point was that it ran quite well at full settings for the visual output it gave. It doesn't touch Half-Life 2 and F.E.A.R. or even Doom III, but it's still easy on the eyes.

But, aside from the graphics, the game was a complete bore - and you know just how bad a game's problem is when a demo version, meant to showcase the excitement and finer points of a game, is entirely devoid of excitement, even in firefights, within the first five minutes.

Hats off to you, Red Storm. You've crafted a real gem.

The reason why you died instantly at one time is because, the terrorist shot you in the head.. yes I am dead serious about this.

By the way, you got pwned that time!

Notice, this time around they give you heaps of ammo, wtf is up with that?

You get shot and no gimp? Gay.

Run speed is too fast and walk speed is too slow.. okay what happened here?

Out of all the million defects there are to name, this one is probably the most simply retarded.. THEY TOOK OUT PRONE. What kind of utter shit is that?

Well, I for one am a big Rainbow Six fan, and Lockdown seems pretty cool, but yeah, the Xbox versions suck terribly. I love Raven Shield, and still play it today, but from what i've seen from the Lockdown demo, like someone said earlier in the post, it has taken the rail gunner approach. For example, when I completed the mission, I saw that me and the team killed over 70+ terrorists, I was like holy shit, were there really that many? In Raven Shield having 20 and below terrorists in one map was enough, and I still find it a challenge to beat those maps. Seemed rather easy to take down the tangos in Lockdown. In Raven Shield I peek my little face around a corner and it gets blown off in a split second. Anyways i'm looking forward to Lockdown, I liked to play co-op in Raven Shield and can't wait to do it in Lockdown.
