OK, I recently formatted my computer. Everything was fine before I formatted. The only reason I formatted was because steam came out and I wanted my system clean, and with a fresh new copy of WIN XP. After the format I have been experiencing hell. Well firstly heres my computer specs.

[OS]: Windows XP Home Edition

[CPU]: 12 2 Intel Pentium IV @ 3046.87 MHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7

[MEMORY]: 12 202/512mb [39.45%] [12IIIIIII-------------]

[DISPLAY]: 12 RADEON 9700 PRO , RADEON 9700 PRO - Secondary card(s), Gateway VX1120 Gateway VX1120 1280x1024x32bpp - 100Hz monitor

[HARDDRIVE]: C: 194,474.32mb (184,601.95mb free)

[BIOS]: 12 GATEWA - 20020919

[CONNECTION]: DSL broadband, Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter(LNE100TX v4) 1394 Net Adapter RAS Async Adapter

Ok so what happes is when I first foramatted the computer and installed my copy of NORTON 2003, I got soon after a virus notice (W32.WELCHIA.WORM). So Itake the proper steps to get rid of it. But now all of a sudden my computer starts randomly restarting without notice. And recently it's been a combination of Freezes and Reboots. It will do it while I'm just on my desktop, it actually did it while I was typing this lol, but even mostly when I am playing Half Life. I can't figure out what the problem is. I have formatted 3 times already, and I am always having the same problem, and I am also always getting that VIRUS alert too right after I get done formatting (W32.WELCHIA.WORM).

I have tried everything just about. From updating my Windows XP and downloading the latest security patches, to even installing a fresh copy of BlackICE firewall software. If you could please help me out with this problem I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

keep us posted on the problom man, i hope you get through it
windows just isnt dependable, ive had problems like that before. and some of my problems still exist. i get random freezes too...

Yeah dude, I tried that as well as soon as I seen the VIRUS notice. And my computer keeps messing up. I formatted again and the problem continued, I'm not sure if that fully killed the virus. Its really weird why my comp is suddenly acting like this after a simple formatt. I have formatted beforeon different computers and once on this one and had no problem.

Just a suggestion, when I want a hard drvie really clean I run Hardware level cyberscrub. It actually updates the files with zero's, and that can not be recovered. That whay is there is anything on there that is some who jacking it up, prolly not, but anyway, I run that thing anyway.

if u ever decide to reformat AGAIN.. dont connect the internet in :O
and no 3rd party odd software... iuno why ud ever get a virus unless u actually installed something with it, or accessed something..

You keep seeing the same virus...so that means you are either installing the virus yourself or you have or are near an infected PC and it is reinfecting the machine because you havn't applied the necessary patche. That virus is about a month old.

I would suspect that maybe you are using bootleg software pressed onto CDs yourself. The CD/floppy is preserving virus between formats. I've seen bootleg NAV/McAFee infected software spread around the Internet.

With this particular worm I would bet you were getting reinfected by a nearby PC (do you have more than one?). Otherwise it would be someone nearby (another DSL or cable subscriber). Or maybe there are just a lot of infections going on.

SInce you reinstalled XP, you've got a shitload of updates to apply so there are a lot of vulnerabilities on the machine. Not to mention you've got radeon updates to apply and other driver updates.

Yeah I have 2 computers, the other one I recently installed NORTON 2003, my legit copy and found that it was infected witht he WORM. SO I then cleaned that one and ran the welchia tool. I then came back to my primary PC and disconnected all my wires from my switch, and from my modem and reformatted. After I got finished re installing windows XP, my legit copy XP home Edition, came with my gateway. I did not get any virus notices any more, I than updated my windows XP security patches and all those goodies. I installed my firewall too. I haven't had that W3W.WELCHIA.WORM virus alert yet. but my computer has frozen 2 times already, both times after I restarted my computer.

In my firewall I am also receiving weird stuff. I am not really familiar with firewalls so I don't know what this stuff means, this is my first time even using one, after all these problems started accuring.
these are the logs.

And ther are like 50 more different intruders where that came from. I don't know whats goin on though. Any ideas ?

damn, I'm stumped. No virii/worms found this time? The only reason I thought you had the welchia worm is cause I formatted last night and I was infected out of the blue. Didnt install anything other than drivers and such from CDs.
if theres anything I can do, let me know

It could also be a power supply issue. But if the PC is brand new I wouldnt be too worried about that. If you are familiar enough with hardware to try your other PC's power supply I'd reccomend at least trying that. Also, when you re-install windows are you actually formatting the hard drive? (not a quick format, a full format) and not just re-installing? I ask because according to your hard drive specs you've got about 10gigs of your hard drive being used, so it looks like theres something there from the previous install, or maybe you've made backups and copied them over. If you do have backups I'd run a virus check on them and see if anything comes up.

The only other thing I noticed that looks kind of odd is the video card list. Do you have two video cards? (On onboard maybe) Or is that big string all for your monitor? If you do have a second on-board video card I'd disable it. Good luck and keep us updated!

Well This is what I tried next. I figured out that my second computer was also infected with the W32.WELCHIA.WORM virus, both are my computers are networked so the virus kept infecting my other computer as soon as I was done formmating, and thats how it kept reinfecting. So I unplugged both from my linksys switch, and from the internet. I cleaned out the other one using the welchia remove tool, and reformatted this one.

So after i got done reformmating I didn't get any virus alert this time so I was glad, and hoped for the best. Now my computer seems like its WELCHIA free but still locks up every now and then for some weird reason. It has never done this before and its only 4 months old. It doesn't restart anymore, well not yet atleast, so thats a good sign. But the freezes are very annoying as I have to push the off switch on my computer, so that really doesn't make a difference from freezing to restarting, same thing pretty much cause my computer has to shut down either way. So I still can't figure out what's cauing it to freeze. really weird.
