rap sucks

A lot of complaining but no one seems to be able to point out which MC's they've heard.

Zerox, don't even ask. Haven't you read the answers? You will not get real answers...

An even better reason to not ask:

Arguing over musical taste is pointless.

I don't like country music. Doesn't mean I need to find a list of supposedly crap country singers. I just don't like it, it doesn't appeal to me or my tastes. No reason in arguing with me over it.

exactlyyy dude who made an example about country music...

rap doesnt appeal to me. what i've heard, i hate. what i hear at friends' houses or clubs or parties, i hate it. the idea of how its generally constructed, i hate. what my brother plays, i hate. it's just really unappealing music, TO ME, and i've yet to hear one song which ive remotely enjoyed.
that's my opinion.
i dont believe i need to go and listen to every Mc or rap artist to decide that either.

but i do believe that everyone has his/her own taste and feck what negative things others have to say about that.

Thats true, aslong as the person actualy enjoys what theyre listening too its all good. What annoys me however is when little girls like bands because they have a crush on them, even when the music is really bad, and townies/chavers/neds who all listen to the same mainstream dance crap (not disrespect to those who do geninuley like electronica) because if they dont they get called "dirty greebos" and then go around listening too the same repetetive crap while not actually enjoying it. Also these "single junkies" who dont realise there is some quality, if not better, material on an artists albumn and wont make there mind up about what bands they actualy like.

Your post was almost as stupid as the first post in this thread.

Listen to KagePrototype, kids - he speaks words of truth.

I am not a big fan of the Rap but is cool

some songs are fine but some not

but the musicvideos are getting boring, cuz is allways in a party, and the rappers show theyr ecalades and many expensive stuff, and money and money,is just boring

a rap song that is getting my attention is 99 problems of JayZ,thats the rap I like

Hey, no disrespect taken.. People who like quality dance music hate the mainstream commercial shit more than you do, believe me.

Well, you know what they say: You can't spell "crap" without "rap."

... but seriously, I like all genres of music (although I could count the number of country bands I like on one hand and have a finger or two left to bust my ear drums with to prevent me from hearing any of the other ones)... including rap. I don't see how people can judge a whole library of music before hearing it. It's like a harmless version of racism... but with music styles instead of cultures.

EDIT: I can talk bad about country music because I live in it... my mom watches CMT every day... pickup trucks with gun racks and big tires are common sights... agriculture was my high school's biggest club... etc. I think I've heard enough country music to make a rather sound judgement (based on my tastes).

Yep. If you can't formulate your own opinion about the music you're listening too, you shouldn't be listening to the music at all. Takes away the point of it, I think.
Music can be seen as a form of expression; if you hear something you don't like, then that's fine. If it intrigues you, check it out.

In today's hip-pop, I love alot of the beats out there. The producers do an amazing job, and lyricists act as posers in front of them. Most of the lyrics blow in my opinion, their words having little meaning.

... Talib Kweli is cool though.

This thread is a classic example of how close minded (and dumb) people can be. The reason I say this is because all of you that say rap sucks know absolutely nothing about rap. Case and point:

case:
rap sucks
point: you're an idiot.

case:
And most rap does suck. It's all commercialized now, which really sucks because the rappers that are actually good, such as Kyprios (who's the only good rapper I know of), get overshadowed by all the big talentless rappers and their equally- or less-talented protegés (i.e. Lloyd Banks). Not to mention the countless cross-collaboration between every rapper in existence.
point:
I actually agree with you to some point. However, what genre of music that people actually listen to isn't commercialized?
case:
Gangsta rap sucks...!!
Gangsta rap has long been dead.
case:
Rap is just drums with the rapping ontop, if its actually got an melody that counts as hip hop. Boring and tuneless as far as im concerned. However I like rock with rap ontop like Rage and the Chillies.
point:
Every song anyone actually listens to has a very well produced beat. Take dr dre for example, he spent years working on beats for his new album and he still isn't done. All that time for about 20 songs shows you how much effort is put in to a rap song.
case:
thats because the only 'skill' it requires is talking. rap is an overblown afterschool program for the inner-city ghettos.
Point:
Why is it that every post I read from you I feel like I am losing 10 IQ points? Why don't you write a verse, make a beat and then record it. Until you do that and post it here you will be an idiot.
case:
I agree. F**kin Tupac was a fag but that's harsh he got shot.
point:
You take the cake for being the biggest idiot in this thread, congrats. Tupac a faq? He did more good for this world that you could ever wish to do. Not only did he stand up for abused and poor women he also did a lot for kids growing up in horrible conditions (conditions your stuipid ass can't even imagine). Everything tupac rapped about had a positive message in it somewhere with the exception of battles. I won't even mention the horrible life he had before he had money. Do me a favor, go read up on him as right now you are just talking out of your ass.

case:
Most rap is shit especially when theyre just talking about making money and pimpin hos and just generally trying to sound hard.. but there ARE some quality songs.
point:
yes, lets take a couple songs in the last 10 years and say all rap is like those few songs. This way we can all pretend to have a good reason for saying rap sucks.

I have nothing against you if you don't like rap. However, if you use stupid reasoning behind it I will come at you full force. I don't like punk; however, I don't go around saying all punk songs are a bunch of stupid white kids pissed off at their daddies to justify my dislike for it. You can name any genre of music here and anyone can apply stupid stereotypes to the genre when they know nothing about it.

A couple? Hardly.
And when i say rap im really talking about the commercial shit. But from what ive heard of the real stuff, the majority of it is similar anyway. If you can recommend me some good shit with the sole purpose behind the song not being them trying to make out that theyre the hardest people thats ever lived on the planet, go ahead.

How about instead you give me examples of songs that prove what you were talking about?

As for good music, try Dr. Dre, Eminem, Wu Tang, Outkast, Trick Daddy, Bone Thugs, Tupac, B.I.G., Nas, Afroman and so much more.

You are also completely ignoring the background of rap music. Punk, rock, whatever you listen to originated from mostly rich people. These people won't see making a million dollars as such a huge deal as they were never truly poor. Almost every rapper was living in conditions most of us can't imagine. Because of this of course they will occasionally point out how much money they made and how proud of it they are. You see it as braggin about their money; however, inner city kids with nothing see it as hope. If the big tymers who had nothing now drive around in Hummers with 22"s why can't they? It's all about relating to the music. If you don't relate to it and don't like it that's fine; howeverm you have no right to trash it just as I don't have the right to trash your music (even if it would be easy to do).

Just 1 example of what I'm talking about. This is off the new eminem CD, the song is called mockingbird:

http://www.requestlyrics.com/read.php?f=1&i=424385&t=424385

take note of this verse:
It's funny
I remember back one year when daddy had no money
Mommy wrapped the Christmas presents up
And stuck 'em under the tree and said some of 'em were from me
Cuz daddy couldn't buy 'em
I'll never forget that Christmas I sat up the whole night crying
Cuz daddy felt like a bum, see daddy had a job
But his job was to keep the food on the table for you and mom
And at the time every house that we lived in
Either kept getting broke into and robbed
Or shot up on the block and your mom was saving money for you in a jar
Tryna start a piggy bank for you so you could go to college
Almost had a thousand dollars till someone broke in and stole it
And I know it hurt so bad it broke your momma's heart
And it seemed like everything was just startin' to fall apart
Mom and dad was arguin' a lot so momma moved back
On the Chalmers in the flat one bedroom apartment
And dad moved back to the other side of 8 Mile on Novara
And that's when daddy went to California with his CD and met Dr. Dre
And flew you and momma out to see me
But daddy had to work, you and momma had to leave me
Then you started seeing daddy on the T.V. and momma didn't like it
And you and Laney were to young to understand it
Papa was a rollin' stone, momma developed a habit
And it all happened too fast for either one of us to grab it
I'm just sorry you were there and had to witness it first hand
Cuz all I ever wanted to do was just make you proud
Now I'm sittin in this empty house, just reminiscing
Lookin' at your baby pictures, it just trips me out
To see how much you both have grown, it's almost like you're sisters now
Wow, guess you pretty much are and daddy's still here
Laney I'm talkin' to you too, daddy's still here
I like the sound of that, yeah
It's got a ring to it don't it?
Shh, momma's only gone for the moment
Offtopic: I recommend everyone that is skeptical of Eminem or rap to at least give the new Eminem CD a listen.

Read my first reply a couple posts up, once you do that hopefully you will see how you are also an idiot.

If you don't like them that's fine, he asked for songs that don't constently talk about money and slapping hoes, I provided him with that. We can talk about eminem all we want but that's been done already, simply look a few threads down.

Also, I highly doubt that you ever actually heard songs from the artists I posted other than a couple released ones.

I dislike rock/metal/punk way, waaay more than hip hop. I DO like good hip hop/rap. Im just saying there isnt enough of it. A very good example of what i mean would be grandmaster flash - the message which kicks ass i think (the words mostly, the rest sounds a bit too 80s for me). Or even the new version of run dmc - its like that, although thats very commercial sounding to me and i like the beats more than the words. The main point is theyre not just talking shit in those songs, quite the opposite in fact.

For those who aren't listening, I'll repeat what I said earlier...

Arguing over musical taste is pointless.

If someone says rap sucks, they don't like rap. Why the hell are you arguing over it?

The problem is what you define as good and what I define as good. To me a rapper talking about being poor and then coming up is good, to you that might not be as good. The problem I think you and all others that don't like rap have is that you don't actually listen. You hear one or 2 songs and think all rap is that way. You would be amazed at how many rap songs talk about real issues like the example I posted from Eminem. You can call me an Eminem fan boy as I probably am but you have to understand I work with hip hop a lot. Many times I spend days in front of a computer and other equipment trying to produce a quality beat to be used on a rap song. You have no idea how offensive it is when some idiot that knows nothing about rap or production says there is no talent that goes in to that.

No way, i know exactly how offensive it is. I produce myself (although i am shit) and it pisses me off so much when people say the same thing about trance or techno, or even when they call trance techno because they dunno wtf theyre talking about. I never ever said rapping or producing takes no talent.
And btw the message is all about being poor and coming up, just from a different perspective.

Actually, I have. So if you want to make assumptions and act like a stupid prick, then I'll allow you to continue wallowing in ignorance.

All I said was that I didn't like those artists. Earlier in this topic, I said that rap just wasn't my particular taste. I never said "DURRR RAP SUXXX". But you still went ahead and acted like an asshole.

I honestly don't see what good most of the rap genre does for society, you can't deny that a lot of it(especially what gets on the radio) is glorifying violence or sex or whatever. other genres have that sort of thing too, but I have only seen rap/hiphop be that explicit. and yes, I consider rap and hiphop to go hand in hand.

Yes, I must agree with the majority of all you around here. Rap just plain sucks nowadays. Some guy with 3 or 4 teeth talking into a mic about committing rape and doing drugs to a randomly generated beat in Fruity Loops for 4 minutes. As for Eminem...god don't get me started. If he doesn't have "wannabe" written all over him, then I don't know what does. Rap is responsible for these 3 wastes of human skin wiggers on our bus(freshman, too ). People that sit in "their" seats in the bus have to deal with their crap, too. Alll you hear is a really stupid girly voice saying "Chu crazy as HEEEELLLLL, nigga. Betta move yo' ass!" When they get off the bus, we all say "GANGSTA!" just to piss them off. Of course they are too scared to look back. Also, rap music really makes me rant like these for hours for some reason...just pisses me off. However, I DO like some of the old school stuff: Onyx, Ice Cube...that's about it I guess. I'm more of a Death Metal guy....and for you "gangstas" out there, no I'm not a "goth". I just like music that you can kick someone's ass to. There's my 2 cents. Flame me if you want, just stating my opinion, so I won't really care since it's over the internet(s). :smoking:

 As they say, Marijuana is gateway to other drugs. Hip Hop is gateway to other music. I remember back in 5th grade, my musical interests started to spark as my older brothers would constantly bump up some Wu-Tang, Hieroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Boot Camp Clik, Onyx, Rakim, Killarmy, Sunz of Man, and many other 90's underground shit. I was like wow, stuff is great.

As I have aged, I looked further into Hip Hop, artists and groups left and right I got interested into, underground scene. The beats were off the hook, there I found out there was more than just to rhyme on the mic, there's a whole basis- a structure of doing it. Along with that there's the 4 elements oh Hip Hop, DJing, MCing, Turntablism, and Graffiti art; a subculture.

I've dove into head bopping songs, there's some creative shit out there man. People like Aesop Rock- Mind puzzling space rapper type, as well as Company Flow, hell throw in some Cannibal Ox and Atoms Fam, you'd constantly listening to their tracks on repeat just to firgure out what the hell they just mentioned. Then there's artists that just sick with it like Canibus, lyrical hurricane right there. There's some themed songs like Immortal Techniques and some other artists,"Peruvian Cocaine"- which is a themed song about how cocaine and it's process of how it gets onto the streets and whatnot. Then there's the song by the Four Horsemen(Canibus, Rass Kass, Kurupt, and Killah Priest) called "The Horsemen" It's theme is medieval based.

Anyways as I was saying before Hip Hop has opened my mind to like other genres of music. Thanks to the beats producers used I.E. rock type beats, i've delved into rock at one point, now I listen to that shit often as well as Hip Hop, and some classical and karma shit, haha. Then again, this is just out of my experience.

But, I do agree that commercialized rap is kind of garbage.

Believe you me, there's artists out there that offer mind stimulating music. EXAMPLE:

"Channel Zero"- Canibus
[Canibus]

Yo sometimes the road to the truth is
So elusive it's confusin
And reality becomes illusion
If I showed the masses where we was at or where we was goin
I'd shatter the social balance of the world as we know it
I'm talkin bout the grand deception
Of nineteen forty-seven
When our souls were sold to the heavens
For technologically advanced weapons
Crystal enhanced, brain implants and mind control methods
MJ-12 is not majestic
In the focal point of our promise on this planet is not domestic
You can accept it or be stupid and be a skeptic
Or fail to recognize the secret society's deathwish
Ninety-seven percent of our presidents were masons
Responsible for launderin trillions of dollars from the nation
For the construction of underground military installations
Abductions and coward mutilations
Experiments on human patients
Can take place in several subterrainean bases
A hundred and fifty stories below a basement
With knowledge of genetic information
You need to fear science not Satan
Cause through the manipulation of certain biological agents
They create strange creations
Top secret special operations
Low frequency sounds and lasers
People like Carl Sagan that didnt believe in the Drake equation
We're tryin to keep western civilization on the need-to-know basis
Well you need to know that this is a game
And we being betrayed and played in the worst way

Tune in to channel zero (8X)

Yo the holy scripts from Genesis 126
Says let us make man in our image under our likeness
First of all whos they?
You see if God was truly a single entity thats not what he would say
We as the Eloheem
Gods and goddesses
Possess a marvelous remonsterous subconscience
Lifeforms that speak in very high pitched sounds and squeaks
Shorts likhado clicks and beeps
A highly advanced form of speech
Even though to us it seems like they only chatterin they teeth
They used to swim deep in the oceans beneath
Till they fins transformed into limbs and they started to creep
Then they evolved into mammals with feet
And walked right from the shorelines onto the beach
They used gravity
Cuz this actually the only force around
They could slow time and the speed of light down
The energy grid network
Open the gateway from earth
To any point in the universe
Livin organisms and various
Geomagnetic gravitational
Anomaly areas
Space expedition teams in the lunar regions
Reported seeing dissapyramids and tetrahedrons
Liquid filled shoes, is what they used
To walk across the moon without leavin a clue
Of where they been for the past twenty three billion years
Before life on the surface even appeared
I hope you become aware what Im spittin in ya ear
Was intended to stimulate your left brains hemisphere
I know it sounds weird
All these motha****in answers to questions to the grand deception

Yo i said rap don't suck

Are you insane? We just had a discussion go on for pages on how much skill and effort is put in to a rap song. You post a stupid ass remark saying all rap is is some guy talking to a mic about raping sluts over a beat that was made in 4 minutes in fruity loops. I feel like nothing I say will get through to you as you don't have the mental capacity for it.

Rappers like Dr. Dre spend years producing beats for a single 20 track record. I personally know how much work goes in to a rap song and I don't appreciate little pricks like you saying we have no talent and that you could do what we do easily. I would love to hear some loops from you, I'm sure you are the shit

I like many types of music, and hip-Hop is one of those, not the mainstream one though, because its true all they do is talk about sex, drugs, and pimping, which bugs me. But people like the Living Legends do the total opposite, and are realistic, some make fun of the mainstream ones. Heres something Eligh said on one of his songs about them:

These tasteless jokes About big dicks and condiminiums Wont amount to shit except Maybe comfortable living But fast living is fast Taking in these fast times Fast rhymes Making dollars With no messages of sour great Stepped on by us Intelectually Stimulated folk With no jokes

I used to not like any kind of rap or hip hop till i listened to underground hip hop.

Ok, this is getting a bit out of control. I posted my opinion (if you can read those two words). No reason to get on my ass about it. The death metal thing wasn't saying I'm "harcore" or whatever, I just like that kind of music. I personally think it's perfect for kicking someones ass to. Is there something wrong with that? See, it's people like you who make stating your own opinion a very difficult thing to do. We each have our own opinion. I respect your opinion, as well as everyone else's. Don't take these things so seriously. Besides, this thread was started by someone who apparently shares my opinion. So just lighten up, and no hard feelings. :D

You saying a beat is made in 4 minutes in Fruity Loops is not an opinion, it is stupidity and to me personally it is offensive. We had an entire discussion about how much effort is put in to a song and then you posted your "opinion". If your opinion was simply "I don't like rap" I wouldn't have said anything, but since you offended me I will get on your ass over it :O.

Again, this is not fully true. Look through some of the lyrics of some of the new rap songs out and you will see most of them have nothing to do with drugs, sex, or pimping. I will admit that drugs and sex are a large part of a lot of rap music, but you have to understand that drugs and sex are large part of our younger culture. And our drug and sex culture is what infulances rap music, not the other way around as some want you to believe. Rap music is pretty much about what people can relate to, not some fantasy world filled with love and happy times. Many people don't like that, but rap music is on a rise and has been for the last decade and I think the more people that start to understand it the more people will actually listen to it.

The fact that I offended you as a person just makes me laugh even harder at this thread. It amuses me, how such a little statement (which really is an opinion, according to the proper English language) made over the internet can offend you. Just because I offend you by accident with my opinion (wasn't even talking to you in the first place), doesn't mean you have to make a stupid insult and attempt to offend me. As far as the "entire discussion", I really don't give a damn about who said what, I posted my opinion anyway. :D Well, I guess I'm done talking here. This thread has become too old and useless.

A belief or conclusion held with confidence

You are telling me you are confident that a beat is made in fruity loops in 4 minutes? If you are then my statement that you are an idiot would be accurate.

Anyway, f*ck it. You don't have the mental capacity to see how stupid you sound when you say something you don't know shit about. If you make a beat in fruity loops in 4 minutes that sounds good and can actually be used for a rap song I might have a discussion with you, until then it's pointless.

Yes, I must agree with the majority of all you around here. Rap just plain sucks nowadays. Some guy with 3 or 4 teeth talking into a mic about committing rape and doing drugs to a randomly generated beat in Fruity Loops for 4 minutes.

As you can see, I said FOR 4 minutes, not "in". So next time you attempt to argue with someone, learn how to read and get the story straight. :dork:

I also am confident that it takes no talent to talk into a microphone and randomly paint in a beat in FL at the same time. So, is this statement an opinion now? If you think you are so great as a producer, then why don't you post your "music" here instead of cry about my opinion? The worst part is you continue to cry about a musical opinion over the internet. If my opinion makes me an idiot, so be it. You are the only one still crying about my opinion here. Next time, someone makes an opinion or a statement (that isn't even against you), lighten up, and try not to start another arguement. It just MIGHT improve your personal life. Arguement finished. :D
