I have a hard time believing this will happen, but if it does, how and what do you think worldwide reaction will be.

IF...

Oh that two letter word.

It hasn't happend so we won't know till then...IF it happens...

I started to think about this and then I realized all of the diffent things that would be happen. Other questions would have to be asked, like, how would muslims react to finding out they were wrong all along? How would buhdists and hindus and atheiests react?

just one of those things you laugh at the idea, then it does happen you regret not being raptured

better safe than sorry?

Having never read more than 4 pages of the bible, and only stepping in a church five times in my life, what is Rapture exactly? Something to do with the end of the world?

Yes.

I'll helpfully suggest that the world would react by curling up and dying, and/or looting whatever they can get.

It has something to do with all the non-sinners suddenly being zapped off the face of the earth or something... judgement day and such.
Personally, if it did happen, I dont think anyone would end up getting zapped anywhere.. we're all evil little bastards down here.

Knowing my luck I'll sleep in that morning and miss my place  :p

I'm just saying...there are lots of good people on this planet.

Millions I might add....so yea. ;)

You still have to go to your timeout corner.

It's something that the book of Revelations talks about. I tried to read it once for a kick, but it seemed way too much like a bad acid-trip or something and I couldn't bring myself to finish it.

The rapture is pretty much what bliink said. The "righteous", or the ones who've lived properly on earth, will ascend to heaven and be with god.

The rest of us heathens will be stuck down here on earth being ruled by the Antichrist. Ever heard of the series of books called "Left Behind"?? They're pretty much a fictional account of that happening.

I personally don't see what's so bad about all the Christian Fundamentalists going away...oops, did I say that out loud??

Not possible. How do you play it 'better safe than sorry' with the vast multitude of religious beliefs that exist? Let's say you pick Christianity because you figure it's better safe than sorry... but oops, it turns out the Muslims were right. Allah might be even more pissed at you than just plain joe Buddhist because of the frequent unpleasantness between Muslims and Christians and send you to your own extra-special room in hell that's even worse than plain old regular hell. So by trying to cover yourself you just screwed yourself over.

Or heck, let's say you pick Christianity and the Christians ARE right, but God has a special dislike for people who affiliate themselves with a religion just to cover their ass and smites you anyway.

That's why I hate it when people try to use Pascal's wager to convince me I should convert... it's such a worthless bit of reasoning.

Oh, and to attempt to stay on topic in event of the rapture I for one would celebrate the end of the days of televangelists... street evangelists... door-to-door evangelists... because even if they don't get scooped up into happy land they just got the rug pulled out from under them so they'll pretty much have to shut up.

Guess who I have a special dislike for?

i was speaking more in terms of to be raptured or to not be raptured, not thinkin of any religion in particular.
and is it not only christians that beleive in rapture not muslims? i dont really know, they both beleive in God, just other things they take differently, one have a kuran (mind my spelling) which has stuff about Allah, the other the bible and Jesus.
might aswell pick the one of your culture and stick with it.

rapture? as in the holy spirit entering your body? ....................... ...ya, that's just bound to happen sometime soon :upstare:

see this is the problem most non religious people have with religion ...you just couldnt have more rediculous traditions if you tried

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1st Thessalonians 4:16 - 4:17

This verse is in reference to the rapture.
Hopefully this clears up any questions.

I'd sincerely hope to be taken.. if not I don't know. Repent quite a bit but I don't know if it'd do that much good after it happened.

The Bible says that those who seek the Son shall find the Father.

so you never plan on or ask "what if" then?

I guess you don't have a jack in your car or a spare for ya know "if" you get a flat tire..... do you have a flashlight, ya know for "if" the lights go out, what about a phone for ya know "if" ya need to make a call?

Well if the only reason your a christian is for the "IF" factor, then I hate to tell ya' scoobnfl but your wasting your time, because only believing for a "fall back, for IF it happens" is totally contradictory to what your religion is all about, which is total blind faith at any cost.... sorry.

Asking if my tire is gonna go flat and asking if the world is gonna end are two big diffrent issues.

Again we won't know untill it happens...IF it happens.

Cheers.

I guess you need to learn to read. I never asked if the world was going to end, I asked if rapture actually does occurr what do you think worldwide reaction will be?

utter surprise that something so illogical just occured :)

I call bullshit on this. People have been saying this for hundreds if not thousands of years. Its just a scare tactic used to keep people in line.

see the thing with armageddon/rapture scenarios is that it's almost as if they're throwing the faithful a bone :

when judgement day comes all those who have faith in god will be saved. translation: the followers of the religion are the chosen ones; they've been promised eternal salvation in exchange for fidelity, all others are condemned to hell/purgatory/what-have-you. Seperating those with faith with those without ...now do you really think if there was a god he'd be so simple minded?

I agree.
Though I don't really believe in God, I go about my life in a way that would please him, so if he came down I'd want words with him if he said I couldn't come and get amongst eternal paradise, just cuz I didn't practise christianity.

A scare tactic is threating to throw someone into a wood chipper.

It's not about religion. Friggen a. Religion this... Religion that. Forget religion. Their is nothing about religion in the Bible. Religion changes every friggen day. I havent seen any organization change as much as the friggen Catholic church. It's all a bunch of lies and manipulations.

Stern, pick up a Bible. A King James Version. Read for a bit. Read the book of John. Just do me that. I read all your links. I read what you have to say.

I've read my fair share of the bible ...I also took theology, humanities, world religions etc in university ..so what's your point?

It will happen some day and we need to be ready. What ever you do DO NOT ACCEPT THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST 666. Read the end of the bible it will litterally scare you. im not perfect but i do believe strongly that this will happin one day. Thats why we need to be ready. :)

How would it be used to keep people in line? The people who believe in the rapture, are awaiting it in anticipation, not fearing it. How is that putting fear into their hearts and keeping them in line?

The Rapture as told in the bible, has been prophesied and deciphered to supposedly according to the experts, come about a few years I after the invasion of the nation of israel by armies from the north and from the south, led by Russia.

I mean, you may not believe the stuff, but even so, the events in the bible that describe the coming of the rapture coincede alot with today's happenings, so if anything it would be interesting cooincidences. Heh. I'm not going to post must in this thread, just observe the discussion :)

EDIT:

when judgement day comes all those who have faith in god will be saved. translation: the followers of the religion are the chosen ones; they've been promised eternal salvation in exchange for fidelity, all others are condemned to hell/purgatory/what-have-you.

Actually, you are incorrect about the bible, in the simple fact that it doesn't say that those who are not saved immediately don't have a chance for salvation later on. It in fact, says the opposite if you read it, from an observational point of view. As the bible reads(i'm not talking religious talk here, i'm talking about the text itself in the bible), even those not of the christian faith at the time, can be ultimately saved.

That would have been a predictable thing during the cold war, but I cant see that occuring now.
