Star Trek - 8.5/10...
****ing awesome.
Pleasantly surprised, considering JJ Abrams' last movie was shit, imo.

This is Star Trek for people who don't want to go through the lame ass low budget TOS or have only seen the TOS movies(which were much more watchable due to bigger budgets).
It helps to have a little bit of Trek knowledge beforehand, lots of little nods here and there that Trek fans will definitely pick up on and smile.

Seeing this again with some friends next week.

can't wait till next Tuesday!

Wolverine - 8/10

I'm really loving my friend right now for applying to the local cinema! every week just about we see a new movie and this was well worth the free ticket. The CGI in this movie was kinda weak but it filled in a lot of holes and I'd love to see another Wolverine movie and it looked like from the ending that there may be one. there were 2 extra scenes, one at the beginning of the credits and one at the very end!

Maybe you missed the news bulletin.

This movie is getting universally hilariously bad ratings. Exceptionally funny is how the only ratings over like 60 are mostly about how Hugh Jackman is a good actor.

Anyone who actually likes this movie is a ****ing moron.

Maybe you missed the telegram.

maybe you missed the fact that I went with a really hot chick and 2 other friends....all for free. aaaannnd it was a great movie contrary to what people tell you

Well, considering you never said that in your initial post then yeah, pretty easy to miss. :p

Tremors 2 - 8/10

Too good, but a little trudging towards the end. Not enough deaths, either, but Burt is such a ****ing badass that he makes up for it by getting a ridiculous death toll himself.

Fistful of Dollars: 8/10 - Great action western, not as memorable for me as the others though.
A Few Dollars More: 10/10 - Quite simply Lee Van Cleef made this movie awesome.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: 9/10 - This movie is like a great adventure, but also a funeral dirge to the civil war. However the only thing I think it lacks is Angel Eye's character development.

Once Upon A Time In The West: 10/10 - Henry Fonda is quite possibly the most awesome villain ever in a western.

I have to say Sergio Leone of spaghetti western movies is just like George Romero of zombie movies. Pure awesomeness.

Anastasia - 7/10

Great movie. My only complaint would be that it extinguished the threat of Rasputin in the first five minutes, denoting him to a mere background annoyance for the remainder of the film. Actually, y'know, his whole arc just doesn't work, and the supernatural element is just so jarring. The music was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Also, John Cusack. unfunfunf.

I personally love Anastasia to death.

Milk
Funny, exciting and tragic display of an eccentric man I didn't know about before. Brilliant acting, directing and as historically accurate as could be.

Frost/Nixon
Expected this to be boring as shit, but it was one of the most intriguing films I've seen my entire life.
It's truly a jarring display of 2 great minds at a crucial historical point. Considering my previous lack of knowledge about Nixon as a whole, the film was incredibly enlightening.

I agree but also I think one of the main flaws of the film is it trying to pretend that the Watergate thing was OMG OMG MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER

Like it was pretty important but it didn't exactly change the course of history, you know.

Don't underestimate it's importance. It's often argued that Watergate represented a basic shift in how the American public viewed the presidency. I'm sure there's other views, but I would never be dismissive of it's place in history.

Startrek - 8.5/10

Never liked Startrek thought it was corny and that it looked stupid.

This on the other hand was kickass!

The Butterfly Effect 3

8/10

Still awesome, but the first was way better

They made 2 sequels to that Ashton Kutcher flick? Hmm

Gomorrah - 8/10

Felt very realistic. Might buy the book.

Permanent Vacation - 8/10
Mystery Train 8/10

Both movies by Jim Jarmusch, both brilliant.

The Hunt For Gollum, a 40-minute fanmade LOTR movie.

In 99% of the cases, amateur films are impossible to watch because of the acting. This one however is that exception. It was very enjoyable to watch. Highly recommended if you're a LOTR fan.

8/10

Star Trek:

Impressed the hell out of me. This film would be a very odd duck if it was independent of anything else, but as an update of Star Trek it's fantastic. It's surprisingly silly in parts, making it really feel like a spiritual successor to the original series, rather than TNG, DS9, Voyager, etc. Abrams very clearly knows what he is doing with an ensemble cast, and you make a real connection with many of the characters in only their first few moments of screen time. Anyone with even a passing awareness of the original series should also get a kick out of all the tiny details and nods that have been included, but they never feel out of place. (Remember: never pick the red suit)

Star Trek - 8.5/10...
Watched it again! :D
This time with a bunch of friends who had no interest in Star Trek whatsoever.
They all really liked it and said they'd check out the shows.

I personally really love this movie and can't wait for the sequels.

The Passion of the Christ - 3/10
Boring slow-mo over the top gore fest. Even more crazy than the book. Predictable ending too.

I quite like Monica Belluci... and that Satan was kinda cool. :naughty:

The Labyrinth 9/10

What do you get when you have David Bowie, a teenage Jennifer Connelly, Jim Henson, and a younger George Lucas??? An amazingly funny muppet movie thats what!! I'm so glad I finally saw this movie and as someone who loved 'Where The Wild Things Are' this was a real treat.

Is Anybody Out there? 7/10

While the film as a whole was OK, Michael Caine gave an amazing performance. Some of his scenes will get you teary eyed. If your lucky enough to be living in the SF bay area, you can catch it at CineArt's movie theater.

Also watched this gem that I had totally forgotten from my childhood:

Rock and Rule 8/10 (and only because of nostalgic influences)

The best way I can describe it is a somewhat family friendly version of Heavy Metal. Gotta love the 80's.

burn after reading - boring as ****/10

I honestly can't in my head pick a number for this (rating out of 10 is hard) but I don't know what it is about the Coen Brothers but just like when I watched no country for old men I finished watching it (wanting to turn it off but I persevered) and was left frustrated, annoyed, bored and completely underwhelmed. How do these people get this much praise? And for a comedy it wasn't very funny, I laughed like twice.

I know just like when I watched no country for old men and posted my thoughts I'll get torn apart for my heretical thoughts but I really don't care. It was a POS and I wasn't alone, the other 4 people in the room with me even thought the same :|

I'm not watching anything by the coen brothers again as they just annoy me. Shame I wanted to watch fargo and the big lebowski as well but now I just don't care.

*puts on flame jacket*

Star Trek.

9.2/10

watched it twice in Theaters and I also watched it at home....
awesoem shit also cannot wait for series spin off and/or sequels

The Big Lebowski is far better than both those movies.

Fargo is awesome, not boring at all.
Never saw Big Lebowski.

I do agree that No Country for Old Men was very damn slow, but it was still pretty decent.
Although I did want to turn it off myself after the first half hour, I soldiered on and it was somewhat worth it.(aside from the ending.)

Also, inb4samon.

Star Trek: First Contact - 8/10...
Second best Star Trek movie ever.

Big Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou are my two favorite Coen brothers movies, but all the other ones (esp. No Country For Old Men, Fargo, and Burn After Reading) are still great. I guess you either get them or you don't. I think the Coens are easily in the top five writers/directors of this generation, everything they do is pure gold and The Big Lebowski is a goddamned masterpiece of humor.

Star Trek.

Just watched it myself. It was OK, nothing spectacular or mind blowing IMO. The time travel thing has been done to death.

However I would be interested to see a TV series with this cast. The only one I didn't like was Chekov. His accent was annoying as hell, the original Chekov did have a slight Russian accent, but not this pronounced damn it.

I give it a 8/10

Bedtime Stories 6/10

Watched it with the kids, it was alright I suppose, I just get bored of Sandler trying to be funny by talking in his deep voice with his chin pulled in, which wasn't funny the first time he did in this movie, let alone the 25th.

Gets points for Russell Brand and Bugsy the abnormal guinea pig.

Star Trek 9.5/10

Awesome. Emotional. Accessible. Trek is finally back.

Star Trek - BRIGHT ****ING LIGHTS ON THE BRIDGE/10

Very enjoyable. Blu-ray fans are going to explode when they get a copy of this in however many years time. I dont know if it was our cinema or not, but during louder, more action packed sequences it was often very difficult to hear the actors and what they were saying. I'm really hoping/looking forward to seeing more with this cast, though.
