reasons why HL2 will definatly kill Doom 3

I know there has been many posts about doom 3 vs half life 2 and stuff like that.

first of all both of these games r looking amazing but the reason why HL2 willl be the one that will be around for the longest is simly becuase of Multiplayer , Mods , and the fact that ur not in the same place the whole game . Doom 3 will only have deathmatch multiplayer which will get boring fast , and the whole game is on that spaceship or whatver.

It's called Mars, by the way. I guess it's sort of a spaceship, cus it flies through space. I think some of the game is in Hell, though, but maybe Hell is just another spaceship? Kinda makes ya think.

HL2 uses lightmaps and d-lights. (lightmaps for stationary objects and d-lights for moving) This takes a whole load off the CPU and is a really good idea.

HL2 has a better use of shaders in general. Look at any Doom 3 screenshot and notice it all looks like plastic (like Farcry) then look at any of the screenshots of city 17 and notice how nice it looks.

Doom 3 does have superior lighting capabilities. How do you know if the MP will suck? Have you played deathmatch with real time dynamic lighting, beserkers, physics that react to everything AND per polygon hit detection? No my friend it will last longer than you think. The mod tools will come with the game so expect mods quickly but we have yet to see quite how moddable it is and hell, for all we can guess it might be more moddable than HL2 as they have seen the success in community made mods...

its in an interview i saw from gamespot stream, the guy sais we dont want any mods or stuff coz we want the game 100% from id , ill try to find the exact interview i listend to. and yes i believe he also mentioned that deathmtach is the only mp for it

why does it matter? either one is good at what they do... half life may have the better history, but remember that doom is one of the grandadies of all FPSs, both games deserve respect, and that is what i give them

omg this is bs Doom 3's lights dont have the right alpha blending and the lights are only 60 watts wtf is this...

HL2 omg the sun is not bright enough, i dont go blind when i look at it.
This aint realistic, i dont cough when i see smoke, i cant light my arm on fire with the refelction off my glasses, this gun has too much recoil because im wearing an Advanced Scientific Experimental Suit with Orange on it BLEH!!!!

The point I was making, is that it is not difficult to make a lighting system that looks better than Doom 3's. It is simply a design decision on whether a software developer thinks it is worth implementing such a system, considering the detriment to performance, when it can look equally good "faked".

So with my comment on 3d studio max, I was saying that the tech of Doom 3 is nothing that no other software company could do, the only thing limiting how good games can look is our hardware. If we all had hardware that could process cinema quality effects in real time, we'd all be playing games that look nigh on photo-realistic.

Valve simply took the decision that the implementation of such a system had negligible real term benefit. In effect, the whole argument about which game has the better graphics is redundant, because the tools exist to make photo-realistic 3d worlds, just your average Joe doesn't have a computer to run a game that looks like that.

lol, I bought 2 Thai copies of FC off eBay for $50 so I can play with my brother.. the box/manual is in Thai, luckily the game's language is installed according to the region settings in windows
