Just finished watching all Alias series 1-5 and loved them. I'm also a big fan of the Lost series. I've got 24 season 2 on the shelf but don't know if I'll really like it.

Can you recommend me other TV series (action/comedy/drama/sc-fi) worth watching (no animation)

thanks!

Band of Brothers was ok if you like war. A bit like saving private ryan, but its a miniseries, so theres far more development, and a more drawn out pace. Well put together.

Not a lot of people agree with me on this, but for comedy watch My Name is Earl. I enjoyed it. :)

The Sopranos, ffs.
Deadwood, ffs.
Firefly, ffs.

For comedy, SCRUBS!

War, Band of Brothers.

Mystery, Lost.

Comedy - Scrubs, My Name Is Earl

Drama - Prison Break (I didn't get into it personally, but hey)

"The Office" was great too.. English humour though.. you might lose some of the effect in the Netherlands

I love Prison Break (I forgot I have season 1 on my hard drive) and the humor of scrubs is really my thing. Firefly is mentioned a lot here, so I'll give that a try.
Band of Brothers: saw that, awesome series. Sopranos: never really took the time to get into it, but the main character is a brilliant actor. My name is Earl and The Office are new to me, I'll try them out, thanks.

Oh, and are any of those comedy series somewhat like Office Space humor?

no worries, I mostly ignore the subs anyway:)

"The Office" is similar to office space, except its made like a fake documentary set in an office, and the humour is more subtle... Very very funny if you get into it though :)

If you're willing to go classic, watch Fawlty Towers. Still absolute genius. :D
Ooops, didn't see that.

And yeah, Fawlty Towers remains to be one of the funniest things in television history.

Right, if we're on British comedy - Blackadder, I'm Alan Partridge, Spaced, Black Books, The Mighty Boosh, Bottom, Big Train.

Don't watch the Office, it's shit... and certainly not the pinnacle of British comedy :)

Edit: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

Black books ftw... but I also have a passion deep within my loins for Scrubs

Comedy - My Name is Earl, Scrubs, Sports Night
Action - Band of Brothers, 24 seasons 1 and 2, Firefly

Cracker! :smoking:

Classic British crime/psychology drama with a cult following who believe it to be one of the best series ever.

Firefly. I bought the series just because people here recommended it (and the IMDB rating is something like 9.5) and its now my second favourite TV show of all time, after Spaced, which you should also get. Now. Go. Buy.

Also good.

Hill Street Blues - The TV cop show. Gritty, realistic, humourous, full of drama. Its excellent.

Firefly - Star Wars crossed with any Western film? Yes please. Well worth the buy, you'll just feel even more annoyed at Fox once you finished the series as you'll be most certainly wanting more.

24 - You'll just get addicted. Enough said. Bauer > anyone.

Band of Brothers - Like already said, this is for any one a fan of war films or more specifically, Saving Private Ryan. I love this show. Can't wait for the next lot.

Prison Break - This was what made my Monday nights. This was the one thing I looked forward to the most every week. Its brilliant.

Over There - Like Firefly, this is petty short, but its well worth it. Set around a group of soldiers in Iraq, its full of action and drama between characters and their lives back home.

The Sopranos - Atm, I'm only on series 3, which I just finished, but its great even so.

So basically, I've repeated what alot of people have already said, but thats just making the majority of people suggesting these things bigger, so hopefully you'll pick up on these suggestions and buy 'em. They really are great watchings.

OH YES. The Sopranos. You need to get your hands on that. Amazing television series. It has...just about everything you could ever need. A little drama, a little action, a little comedy, even a bit philosophical.

Kinda like Firefly...

Lost
Star trek - except enterprise and andromeda
X-files
Two and a Half Men
Fraiser
Malcom in the Middle
Becker

I think this is an appropriate time for me to cry in anguished despair:
WHY, FOX?!?!? WHYYYYY?!

Goddamn it I'm never going to stop being completely depressed that Firefly was cancelled.

My name is Earl is the best comedy that I have watched. I don't know any war/action programs except for what everyone else has said (Band of Brothers)

Lots of people liking My Name is Earl here too. :O

Good to know.

RWC, you could look for Boys from the Blackstuff, a harsh and down to earth drama about unemployment in 80's Britain.

One show that I'm hearing a lot about lately is The 4400. Aside from series mentioned already, I'm going to give this one a look too.

Here's the sypnosis:

As the reappearance of 4,400 missing persons on a single day confounds the global community, federal agents on the case slowly discover the ways in which the victims have been changed.

It's supposed to be the X-Files meets the X-Men. It started out as a mini-series and then found its way into a regular schedule by the network. Considered a spiritual successor to the Taken miniseries (which I also enjoyed), I'm definately going to track down the pilot episodes and see if it's as good as I'm hearing.

I'll throw my votes on the Firefly and My Name Is Earl pile. Damn they're good.

HOW has no-one mentioned curb your enthusiasm or arrested development?

never seen curb your enthusiasm, but arrested development is fantastic.

a true canadian, i own taken, but i watched only the first half before i got too bored to go on D:

It's more of a character study than a science-fiction piece (much like LOST actually). It can get a little dull sometimes, especially at the middle (I attribute this to the fact that most of the interesting characters are killed off before the end). The government coverups and conspiracies of the late 40's and 50's are some of the more interesting parts of the series, but I also liked the last couple of episodes as well (it's mainly one huge chase sequence).

It appears I'm the opposite of you. I liked Taken, I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is great, and I've never seen Arrested Development. :O

You like The Mighty Boosh too? :O I never thought I'd find another person who liked it.

Oh, also Doctor Who is great sci-fi.

I thought My Name Is Earl was ok and pretty funny, but it didn't drag me in enough to watch it. It wasn't something I was particually bothered about on Friday nights. I'd miss it, and I wouldn't really be that bothered, sometimes I'd miss it cuz I was lazy, but whenever I'd watch it round my freinds (SkyPlus recorded) I'd always enjoy watching it.

I don't know. :|

Also, for comedy: Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers and Blackadder are winners to the highest caliber, or something. Whatever. Very funny stuff.

Like it? I'm a bloody cult follower! Camden Leisure pirates, etc.

they did use some offensive contents though, but in a very humorous way. even though the series were short, it won couple of awards. if u wanna enjoy the series, go for the dvd version. it has got 'deleted scenes' and 'bloopers' as extras.

Milky Joe of course. Series 2 needed so much more Bob Fossil than the end of that episode... the other characters that Fulcher did were still great though. You seen Snuff Box? It's a sketch show with him and Matt Berry, aka Dixon Bainbridge and Sanchez from Darkplace.

Christ, I forgot Darkplace. Must edit that in.

No. I haven't seen many of the "sister comedies" of MB. I saw some of NAthan Barley and didn't think much of it. I'm looking forward to the release of Darkplace on DVD later this year though.

As for Series 2, I started off disliking it because it lost the zoo, Fossil, Bainbridge and Mrs Gideon. But I have grown to like it almost equally now. Purely because they have far much more scope now that they are out of the zoo.

You heard the radio show too? I was dissapointed at the lack of Tony the Prawn and Colobus the Crab in the TV series. :(
