Red Faction: Guerrilla

So ZT, I saw you playing it on steam. Worth the 40 bucks? I've been contemplating getting it but I just can't seem to commit after being wholly unimpressed with the demo. The fact that you can't blow up the ground/mountains or anything completely let me down. But if the SP is good, then i'll give it a shot.

"Or anything"?! What?! The whole gameplay is based on destruction, the only thing you can't blow up is the terrain Which really doesn't matter, because you can destroy entire buildings and everything man made with your sledgehammer or explosive.

It's great fun. The story is you know, typical, but the gameplay is mindless enjoyment.
I've yet to get sick of it, even if I did, it's still something I could start playing a month later and have a blast. Lots of fun tactics you can dick around with.

Mind the douchebag narrators.

Yeah, I didnt mean to write "or anything." I knew man made structures could be destroyed, but the actual earthy bits couldnt. I think thats super lame.

I installed this, looking forward to blowing shit up. Then it told me I needed a Games For Windows Live account in order to save my progress. Quit/uninstall.

I'm renting this game now and its really fun. I just want to finish Crysis first and then I'll devote more time to it

Urge to kill random people rising...

Good for you.

Waiting for AA to turn up in the post I bought this today for PC and I have to say so far it's a pretty enjoyable experience. It's most certainly a console port, but the principal mechanics of the game are fun and a nice contrast to the standard open world approach. I don't think it's going to be winning any awards, but the opportunity for mayhem on a GTA IV style scale is pretty impressive.

Played it, got to Dust.

Man, I'm in love with this game now, taking buildings down is so goddamn sexy. If I could, I'd hump the game's engine.

Of note is also the fact that it takes a lot from the previous Red Faction game, Red Faction. It seems Ultor is still a major factor in the storyline, even from beyond its grave.

I have literally exclaimed "woah!" several times while playing this game. Building destruction is just that impressive. Really the only thing that could some work is the physics of the actual collapse, where very often you'll find a building standing on just one or two supports. I suppose that might be a limitation of the physics engine though.

when you're in a firefight and they say you need to get things to green to advance the next mission...how do you do that?? also i hate how they throw commands at you when your in the middle of a firefight, they should always pause the battle to tell you whats important because it usually takes 10 seconds to explain something

LIVE is truly awful, but for some reason this is one of the few LIVE games that has not been problematic for me.

Wait until you get the nano rifle.

You need to hightail it back to the hideout or wait an abysmal amount of time for it to wear off. Kind of like San Andreas' wanted system.

Played this game for 2 hours last night. Started to get into it, and blowing up stuff was pretty fun.

After the 2 hours I tried to save the game. It wouldn't accept my hotmail account since it wasn't connected with a gamertag (wtf are all these things?)

So I created an offline account to save.

"A log in change occurred" at this point apparently (obviously!)...which I thought solved the problem.

No, I had been returned to the main menu of the game.

2 hours of progress lost. Game deleted.

This.

Game has a lot going for it. The devastation you can cause can be quite spectacular and there are quite a few good missions (the rally is pretty epic tbh), there's also a hell of a lot to just do in terms of bits and pieces to find (I like searching).

I was disappointed how short the Badlands map was in terms of missions. Had a lot of potential with all those Marauders.

It's quite creepy how the signs have a symbol of the moon with a skull and crossbones symbol next to it. Completely empty area with some skeletons to ward off visitors. You're just getting some scrap and you hear a crazy scream off in the distance and you see one of their cheap Mad Max vehicles a mile down and you just get the hell out of there.

Welcome to Games For Windows Live. Microsoft trying to force their 360-style PoS system on PC users.

To be fair, the 360 works perfectly with Live. A computer does not. Live is great for the 360, but the computer just has many, MANY more options and does not need a proprietary way to play games on the computer.

I just wish GFWLive would die. There's really absolutely no point to it.

I hate GFWL with a passion. Why the **** do a game needs external GFWL profiles to be able to store saves? What's the issue developers have with good old Profiles?

Oh yeah, to add insult to injury, savegames are apparently tied to your hardware configuration. You can only play from a save on the same machine you have the game installed.

What..? This is the stupidest bull shit I've ever read. Seriously, your computer dies and you need to change parts, you're ****ed. What a terrible process. Once again, I can understand completely why they do it for a 360, but the PC does not need this garbage at all. I love Live on the 360, but what if one of my friend's lose their save file, I cannot just toss mine over there. They are forced to play or find some sort of crack.

Ugh. So many shitty things to say about GFWL. I've yet to play a game on the PC that has GFWL, and I'm probably not going to play one ever. It will never be a standard. >_<

I hate it when pirates have an easier time playing games than legitimate users.

Just reached Badlands, the end of the Dust Map was pretty damn epic

Downloading it, but not looking forward to having to use Live. Not had an experience as bad as Glenn's...yet!

Oh man, driving trucks through buildings. This is probably the first 'fun' game I've played in some time.
I wonder how many people recognise the Capek arena before he starts 'speaking to parker'. I certainly did ;D

The friendly AI is atrocious in this game. I usually roll my eyes when I find out Guerrilla reinforcements have come. If you get into a vehicle, they will all run right into your vehicle and continue running, like they are magnetized to the car. They won't get in or anything, they'll just keep running into it. So what happens? One of them gets killed because I'm trying to drive. -Then of course the game punishes me for that.

Also, when doing rescue missions, the person you are rescuing will often not enter the vehicle but continue fighting and eventually die.

The hostages always get in the car with me on rescue missions. It's pretty awesome doing those in an APC, because you get to drive away full speed with one of the hostages blasting away on the gun.

They really took a lot from the Combine design for the EDF.

Metrocops, Dolphin looking gunships, and even the color palette/shape of all their steel.

pics? is story really that good?

Story is very typical. However there are some interesting aspects but I am not sure if they are going to expand on them.

I've never had a problem with the hostages either. I think you just have to make sure they stick close, however I do hate it that my Guerilla buddies never run for the hills when I do. I also dislike the fact that they enemy never stop coming. Invariably it turns most large missions in to wars of attrition either of you constantly running away to a safehouse, to return or taking the minor hit of some standing and suiciding. However minor quibbles really given wanton destruction is so much fun. ;)

They killed my brother! They will pay!

I would care more if we had a chance to spend more than 30 seconds with the brother at the start of the game and actually grow to like him.

The Brother, Alec, and the two bad guy Generals all look the same.

4 main characters in the game look related.

The respawing enemies are annoying. It spoils going into EDF bases to destroy shit and you really have to use hit&run tactics. Turns into a bit of a cluste**** throwing sticky nades to destroy the base before being overwhelmed.

1. Get sticky bomb upgrades
2. Be sure to have a car handy, prefferably an EDF ATV or APC.
3. Or get a nanorifle for sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.

Stealing an EDF tank is pretty sweet. They reek so much destruction.

Once you get the final armor upgrade and the jetpack, you can win a lot of fights by just using your hammer, which is really satisfying.

I love sneaking up to a soldier frantically looking around for me, right as he turns to see me I hit him with the hammer and he gets face planted right into a concrete wall.

That's kind of the point. Guerrilla warfare. I agree respawning enemies constantly following you everywhere is bullshit though.

I love the Light Walker. When you exit one, it's claws fold downwards, setting on the ground. Well, when I did there was a civilian standing in front of me and the claws crushed him when I exited.
