Red Faction: Guerrilla

Let me get this straight: you can knock right through pillars with one blow from a sledgehammer?!?

And it's a super special sledgehammer.

Not entirely tbf. Generally you'll probably take a chunk out of it, a lot depends on where you hit it, as well as how big it is. The principal is whether you hit it enough to cause it to become structurally unstable, and weaken sufficiently to collapse under the weight of what's above.

Yes, but sometimes you can run into very glitched buildings (I've gotten to a windmill that didn't collapse until I had knocked all 4 support struts down). Yes, that means that it was standing with only ONE strut left.

Stealing an EDF tank is pretty sweet. They reek so much destruction.

i kinda wish there were more tanks and mechs in the game
i spent a good chunk of my campaign time just messing around in and around high-level EDF areas and only found 1 tank and 1 heavy mech (found quite a few light/armed mechs though)

Anyone notice all the bald men in this game? Kind of unsettling...

Apparently you hate people without hair. How do you sleep at night sir?

Am I the only one who progresses VERY slowly on missions due to the temptation to go on a murderous rampage at the start? Same goes with GTA4 which I beat after only a few...months.

I just got the nano rifle, and I cried tears of joy the first time I melted a wall. Then I lol'd when I melted a person.

I needed only 5 more seconds.

Ah well, no point in going back, I took the bridge down.

Anyone try the cheats you unlock? Pretty fun for fifteen minutes. Your sledgehammer can send cars flying hundreds of feet. The best is hitting a soldier and he goes right through two walls of a new building.

Yeah I just tried that cheat out. I didn't know exactly how powerful the super sledge was, so I immediately tried it out on the nearest building and instantly killed myself.

I just started the bonus mission, surprisingly nice!

You play as Sam when she was still a Marauder. New weapons and vehicles.

Just started playing this, and I'm having a blast so far.
Don't have enough money to get the damn rocket launcher yet... :p

Rocket Launcher blows IMO. Spend it on something else like upgrading your sticky bomb count and the grinder.

The arc lighter is a lot of fun upgraded, but only works well (IMO) when you have your armor and jet pack.

Mental note don't listen to other people's suggestions. The grinder is a piece of shit. The rocket launcher is actually useful especially with the heat seeking rocket upgrade against air units.

Right now my loud out is: hammer, sticky bombs, rocket launcher and arcwelder. Too bad the arcwelder eats up the ammo like it's popcorn.

Had my first "walk" with the heavy walker:

random guerrilla: Get to the truck! I don't have all day!
me: Shut the **** up I'm busy tearing shit up here!

is there a cheat to allow an infinite amount of mines? THAT would be awesome...

There has to be. I mean when you think Red Faction and cheats, infinite explosives comes to mind.

Also I'm a bit confused, is there a second type of rocket launcher or what. i remember in a trailer they were showing off a "thermobaric rocket launcher" which was like a mini nuke.

Sure, but then again you probably like more boring and conventional weapons. I can get a rocket launcher in any game, they're ****ing everywhere.
I however cannot get a a machine that shoots exploding sawblades into people in most games.

Similarly the Arc Welder, pretty useless in most combat situations, and it will usually get you killed if your armor isn't maxed. But it's way more fun to use than the useful shotgun or pulse rifle that is every damn game.

I'm playing on the easiest setting, the character is a walking tank. Even with a few dozen soldiers shooting at me I can still get close enough and fry them . Also, assault rifle> shotgun. The automatic shotgun seems so weak and has very short effective range. Right now I just got the nano rifle so I'll be using that for a while.

Has anyone actually used the proximity bombs? I just don't find any use for them...

I haven't even purchased the proximity bombs. Singularity bombs, on the other hand, are amazing. They are the best way to take out a high value target quickly. Run in, drop a couple in the target with remote charges to detonate them if need be, run out and watch the fun. How many M.O.A.B.'s have you guys acquired? I only got one so far, an I used it on the bridge. I have to wonder how effective they are on bases.

You can use MOAB's? All it said was they you could blow them up when your car is over it?

Anyways, I only got to use a Singularity Bomb once, I know they are supposed to be at EDF bases, but I can never find them.

MOABs... the ****? Where did you find that. I destroyed the bridge using a tank, not very original but it worked. I haven't found any singularity bombs either...

Where exactly is the input? I had the message pop up cheat unlocked, but buggered if I could find out where (although admittedly I didn't look very hard).

basically if you wander around, ever so often you'll find these glowing rocks, they appear as blinking green lights on your mini map, they are messages from former colonists (I guess they are staff pics), but if you find a certain number then a 1 off bomb pickup appears by a road which you pick up by driving over. You can set the bomb off, by destroying the vehicle, so park up plant a mine on it, and walk away then trigger the mine and kaboowy!!! Huge explosion time, good for destroying whole facilities assuming you can drive in and get out alive.

Cheers. I'll have to have a poke about a bit more. ;)

I actually restarted the game yesterday because I'm too much of an explorer and I figured I'd missed a bunch of stuff earlier on, plus it was an opportunity to reassess certain aspects of it. I have to give the developers credit, they have some pretty inventive missions, some of which are much easier to complete if you use a bit of imagination and lateral thinking.

On the Jenson mission in dust where you have to break 35 million in damage, for ages I wasn't getting anywhere near that (26-27 million even though I'd blown everything up). Then it occurred to me, that if you shoot the airship down early on (there are a couple of opportunities when its close), then replacements appear, and those airships are worth a lot ;)

The other the one was where you need to defend the Town in Dust against the big EDF raid & they send wave after wave of troops at you. For ages I kept on running and gunning, using my bombs to blow the vehicles up, but ultimately they would swamp us. Of course the second vehicle they send is a Tank. So instead of hoping I'd have enough bombs to hold out. I used the old trusty arch wielder to immobilise the tank (after I'd destroyed the first troop carrier), then took control & proceeded to annihilate the arriving transports. Mission complete & a near fully armoured tank? Time to go visit that EDF base just south I think ;)

*hats off to the developer.

Also Arc wielder = awesome

I remember getting pretty good at shooting the airships down from long range. At first it was pretty hard, but it only took a little practice. I only wish that you could fly in one of those things. I remember almost jumping onto one, but barely missing it.

Man I love this game. I got my hands on some sort of super tank that could fire a salvo of a dozen projectiles, and I proceeded to single handedly destroy the capital, city council buildings and those big bridges with it. Almost got enough credits to get the thermobaric rocket.

I also love the little details, like being able to shoot out a gunship by taking out it's stabilisers, making it spiral out of control, insurgent chatter in the raid missions, the news system, randomized serial numbers and unit emblems on EDF vehicles, interactions in the cities (EDF are executing people in the streets, even in Eos)... a lot of love and care went into this game.

The news system also puts a spin on the EDF's opression, as rather than being opressive for the sake of being opressive, they abuse the people of Mars out of necessity, as Earth is failing.

Do the remote mines blow up by themselves after some time, or after you move a certain distance away? There was one mission early on where you had time to prepare for an attack, and my mines kept exploding before i was ready.

Not as far as I'm aware, but it you change sectors they probably foul up

Maybe I've got a bug then, because they always go off before I press the button. I was once setting a trap for a convoy, and when I had four of them placed I ran past them to get a vehicle to put in the way, and they all exploded right when I was running past. There was another time when I was on a mission and I had time to prepare so I set my two bombs up on this catwalk thing so I could drop it onto people running under it, and 10 seconds before the attack started they blew up.

Its really annoying, and I dont use them anymore because of it.

Sorry I was reading you wrong I thought you were on about the explosive charges Vs the mines.

The Mines are sensitive to people and vehicles. You can buy upgrades to set them so they'll blow only when EDF are near, however personally I find they suck balls (and not in a good way) so I don't bother with them tbh.
