Just thought I'd try this. Best to worst, based on hypothetical HL2 performance/quality:

1. Radeon 9800XT
2. Radeon 9800 Pro
3. Radeon 9600XT
4. Radeon 9800
5. Radeon 9700 Pro
6. Radeon 9700
7. Radeon 9600 Pro
8. Radeon 9600
9. GFFX 5900 Ultra
10. GFFX 5900
11. GFFX 5600 Ultra
12. GFFX 5600
13. GF4 Ti4200
14. GFFX 5200
15. Radeon 9200
16. Radeon 9000
17. GF4 MX440/480

Accurate or not? Did I forget any? Your opinions please.

I'm pretty sure the 9700 Pro would do better than the 9600XT, atleast that's what current benchmarks are saying.

Also, there should be the 5700 and 5700 ultra in there.. also, you forgot the FX5950/ultra

So,

1. Radeon 9800XT
2. Radeon 9800 Pro
4. Radeon 9800
5. Radeon 9700 Pro
6. Radeon 9600XT
7. Radeon 9700
8. Radeon 9600 Pro
9. Radeon 9600
10. GFFX 5950 Ultra
11. GFFX 5950
12. GFFX 5900 Ultra
13. GFFX 5900
14. GFFX 5700 Ultra
15. GFFX 5700
16. GFFX 5600 Ultra
17. GF4 Ti4200
18. GFFX 5600
19. Radeon 9200
20. GFFX 5200
21. Radeon 9000
22. GF4 MX440/480

Dunno if it was intentional or not, but you missed out the GeForce 5800 series.

Is the 5800 even being made anymore? I believe it was also left out because the 5900 is seen as the popular card, not the 5800

so is the GeForce FX5950 Ultra any good? they seem a lot cheaper than the 9800xt.. They worth getting?

Yeah, it went out of production, but that doesn't mean it's not available anymore.

13. GFFX 5900
... GFFX 5800 Ulta*
... GFFX 5800*?
14. GFFX 5700 Ultra
15. GFFX 5700
16. GFFX 5600 Ultra
17. GF4 Ti4200

neither of them is really a good buy.

but in short....no. its not worth it.

That is the ranking if you are thinking of using Nvidia's 45 drivers.
With the 52s the 5900 comes to about a 9700 with DX9 games similar to HL2 (games that use shaders and other features a lot).

Well, I just assumed Brian was referencing the 45s because, well, that's all we've seen benchmarked for HL2.

i own a 9800 pro, but the 5950 ultra is on par with atleast the 9800 np if not the 9800 pro. just cuz its nvidia doesnt mean its not good. your rankings are off a bit.....

somewhere down here below my pile of stinky poo is the 5200. i owned this card. it turned me to the red side and now i am a fanatic. sorry nvidia, you are just in a terrible rut that is going to take forever to get out of. im not likely going to go back to you for......a very long time. oh and the 9800xt is an amazing card. right now its the best on the market, you better have alot of money to spend on it though.

.....we are not talking about overall rankings.....we are talking about HL2

http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTM3

all these should be taken with some salt, but THG is known to be a huge nVidiot. careful with him. this is just 4 of many many many reviews out there. just do a google and you will find alot. these are probably the most popular however. you can also find ati specific reviews on these sites as well.

edit: im aware of the hl2 performane/quality, but someone asked about how the 5950 was and also the 9800 xt so i just wanted the put the overall rankings in perspective as well as some benchs if people are interested. if your not....just skip.

By the time HL2 is released, several newer cards will appear in the list.

I would have thought the 9700 np was higher than the 9600xp...

CLock speeds are higher.

they are very close in hl2 performance im assuming.....not sure wich one is actaully faster at stock speed.

maybe.. depends when we see HL2.. if it ends up being April, then ya u can probably add PCI-Express cards from both Ati and Nvidia to that list.. hmm..

this gives me an idea for a poll.. hmm..
