Release date now?

...although that is most unlikley since the leak of the Source code. :(
 
no one knows.. but we can forget getting HL2 under the tree this year :|

yeah i noticed so is any delay due to the leak or not because valve are denieying its because of the leak arent they.

Well if you think about it, they really haven't had sufficient time to asses the problems they have now from the source being leaked. So of course they aren't going to release any statements any time soon on when the game is to be expected. Time will tell, let us all just hope that Valve can get everything sorted out and get back on track with getting the game and steam ready for the release, whenever that may be.
 
if they take much longer the hackers will use the source code to make there own version of half life2..lol.naa...it sucks really,that this happened.

MAybe they will just release the single player and multiplayer a free upgrade on steam once the code is changed...

If that's the case I reckon they would release it in 2 weeks. Maybe the leak source code is a blessing in disguise for us gamers. Nah really it was a bitch thing to do to leak the source code.

I dont think it'll get delayed any more than the end of the year, unless they start some major work on the security issues and code re-writes. Then you could well be looking at Q2 2004.

I don't see any in SP... MP is another story but we all want SP first, right ? MP can wait...
 
they said holiday 2004 after the source tree was stolen, so I think they already took that into consideration when saying holiday season release.
 
IMO the MP can wait as it is only the single player i'm interested in at this time, however if they want the MP game to be more secure then work wont take a few hours it'll take a few months.

Plus i think that this Source Code leak is the cause of the delay in the first place and a few other people think so too.

So surely if the leak was the reason behind the delay, they'd have anticipated the issues needed to fix things (or repair to some extent at least, i.e. security patches etc.) and it would still be on for Holidays 2003 release? I mean if the leak is why they announced the delay then they would simply be saying they would need till the holiday period to sort it out.. theyve still got a month and a half to two months before that time.. which could be enough? .. at least for single player to be released?
 
I personnaly don't think the game will be delayed at all because of the leak. Valve has until Christmas to fix or recode whatever they need to, and I'm willing to bet that they are going to put their entire technical staff on that job. I have confidence that an army of Valve programmers working night and day for 3 months can get this taken care of in time for christmas.
 
Yes but they also said that the delay was because the game was simply not finished. So add this plus the game being unfinished it could be cause for a longer delay. Also about the single player, don't you have to connect through steam to run single player? If so then can't an attacker get to you from that?
 
It's delayed, if not, they would reconfirmed the date after this hacker-desaster. But they do not answer questions in that direction. For me that's a clear "it's delayed you fool, what do you expect? Tell you a date we do not know ourself?"

Well, let's just hope it comes back before next year... Sheesh... I hadn't got the time to play Thief 3, World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2 together.

All the time they spent on the Authentication code, to repel piracy. As I've said before, if they just fix this, they could release single-player alone. But, sadly, I doubt they'd do it...

Okay so a few thousand people get to play it - thats not gonna hurt Valve's sales.

But imagine the spoilers - it will ruin it for the rest of us.

For gods sake - release it now Valve and that will end any use of the beta or source code
 
How, exactly, is some warez group gonna release it? I believe only the source code was stolen, which is useless without resources.
 
In the third page of the independent newspaper (one of the bigest newspapers in the UK) it wrote that valve said it was going to be delayed further because of the source leak. If you want i can scan it.
 
if the reason it wasnt released is because steam wasnt ready, then we can probably forget about it being done this year. valve now has the source leak to worry about and will be spending much less time optimizing steam for the release, once the leak is taken care of things will speed up again, but it is looking doubtful for this year

Im going to guess sometime in 2004 but you never know, Valve could surprise us in a good way.
 
They have to redo the netcode from the begining and then play test , bug test all over again , probably 2004...looks like we'll see doom 3 before hl2
 
Send an email to gabe asking when the NEW estimated release date is...

I rather have it released now, then they re-do netcode, and then release a patch. THAT way we get the game, get to play Multiplayer even with hacks we still have ADMINS to kick people.

No they won't you don't get it the source code leak allows hackers to get around everything , even admins, besiccly hackers would run Half-life 2 online , it wouldn't work.
 
How many people are going to bother hacking HLDM? I dont think CS or anything else is LAUNCHING with HL2. Either way, Deal with hackers, release game (even without the MP), and then send out a patch to change netcode.
 
I just want the game. Even a demo could hold me over for a few years.
 
I think the same, and I really don't care for HL2 multiplayer as much because if the gameplay is similar to Half Life 1's multiplayer then it's not worth my time. Single Player is what I really care about right now, the only mod I like from Half Life to play multiplayer on is Counter-Strike, so playing the single player HL2 will be good enough for me, at least for the first couple of months.

My suggestion to VALVe: Release Half-Life² NOW so that cracked versions and bootleggers wouldn't be even considered, as genuine is always the best.
 
I dont understand why you think because the soruce was let out that it will delay the actual game... The only thing that will happen is cheats will be made faster, (which can be countered by valve, as in HL1) and other game companys potentially have access to Valves secrets of physics/A.I ect... There's really no techinal reason to delay it because of what transgressed.
 
I'm just angry that all these slacker loser game developers are getting all the technology that VALVe slaved over to create. I would personally bust down thier door and force feed them thier RAM if they stole my 6 years of hard work.
