Release Date

:afro: Well me and my afro here have been wondering about if anyone has heared of new release dates for HL2. I havent really stayed up to date so if any can tell me what they know i would really appreciate it. Thanks :cheers:

expect it around "The Holiday Season" - official from Gabe. Although with the source code leaked, the realse is more up in the air now then ever.

people if you haven't realized it the release of the source code will probably cause a delay.

i still haven't heard a good reason on why it would be delayed since the source code is out.

what are they gonna do rewrite the whole source code? they only thing they can do now is counteract the cheats with help from steam when they do come out, and sue those who try and make money off this leaked source.

I hope it isn't delayed more than too december. Most hope for November 15th, 5 years from the original release of HL1, but with this it might be pushed back even more. Maybe if it gets to christmas ill try to get the Ati Radeon 9800 xt so i get hl2 too. But no-one knows the releas yet.....

Have you considered that the source code being copied from Valve's computers was the whole reason for the delay in the first place and that the rest of the information was a cover-up?

They are probably delaying the game so that they can alter the source enough to make the hacks not work when HL2 is finally released... or if something to do with the cd-keys or Steam is in there (is there any of that stuff in the leaked code?), they might be changing that.

True - they said it happened 2 weeks ago. But maybe they didn't find out about it until today? 9/19/03 was the day it was copied, according to Gabe.

Whole thing sucks. Could explain alot of Gabe's "no comments" recently, pertainign to release dates...

do you have any idea how stupid that sounds? so you're saying valve will delay the game so they can change their source code to fix hacks that were made in the future? but you forgot one important thing.

valve can't possibly know what to change and what to leave if these hacks aren't released. joe hacker could make a cheat for hl2 and hold onto it till hl2 is released. so unless valve can go into the future with a time machine and see what the hacks do, they can't possibly make changes to their code to fix the problem. heres how it works in reality:

a cheat is made
a fix is created. not vice versa

the best thing valve can do is release it, and with the help of steam nail these cheats one by one.

i agree with you posey, they should release the game and fix the cheats. BTW what good is the source code to the game anyhow, besides makin cheats? besides the game isnt even finished and isnt final

I don't think Vivendi or ATI would be happy about releasing it after Christmas at this point.

the hacks do, they can't possibly make changes to their code to fix the problem. heres how it works in reality:

What he was saying was supposudly this leaked code had logic on how cd keys and/or Steam IDs are generated and that Vavle would want to change that up before releasing. Though I doubt that would cause a delay past the current "holidays".

But regardless how quick the fix, it is a big deal.
