Release HL: Source now so we can prepare for HL2.

When HL2 is released, most people wont play HL Source first because they want to play HL2 so bad. If they release HL: Source some weeks before HL2, people can prepare themself for HL2 . I think that would be a very good idea. Who knows? It might even bonus the sales of HL2?

I dont really think so, most people who were going to buy it off steam in the first place already did, and the people who'll buy it in store wont change their minds imo.

They can't. Half-Life (the brand) is tied into Vivendi. Vivendi won't let anything that has the 'Half Life' name in it out before the official release date.

I was just telling my friend the exact same thing earlier today. It's a great idea and would be a nice feature for the Steam owners.

VU have already released HL and Valve own all rights to it now and they can distribute it how they want. One of the reasons why this lawsuit that is going on is because VU sold LAN cafes copies of HL which was ilegal because Valve own the game. Valve also own the Half-Life name the thing that is tying the steam release down is the fact Valve have a contract of making a certain ammount of games with VU. If they can give CS:S they should be able to give HL:S

Then again, i might be wrong, at least in some places.

HL:S is just a direct port anyway there is no update to it or anything its just put on the source engine. If you want to prepare for HL2 in that way play HL.

This would only apply to HL2, HL:S just uses the source engine. :cheers:
