lies, all lies !!!111

Ok Vivendi are trying to build the hype machine even higher than it is already by making an Release Hour on the Date that they set which atm has only been stated to be November but not any date in mind yet.
As for my source I was in a retailer in the UK today and overheard the staff and management talking about this.
So sorry if you choose to dismiss this as lies but I know what I heard ;(

Release hour for retail "Whenever the shops open"
Release hour for steam "Whenever they can be bothered to click the unlock button"

Since Im from the UK I will most likely in be bed when the Us verson comes out, and I'll get it when I wake up with steam.

Release hour?

What on earth are you talking about?

Another "I heard retailers saying..." story.

Ive been hearing retailers say November for a while now so Im inclined to have some belief

Release hour = Midnight, whatever coast VU is on.

like what? the hour of the day the game will be released?

We can but dream, but there's no shame in that.

I too have been predicting a surprise appearence by HL2 on the shop shelves but I wouldn't predict having it before the remainder of reviews hit the stores.

 We dont even have a friggin release DATE yet, but there anouncing a hour.... huh?????

Guys please calm down...

A, No I dont mean that its going to appear in an hour or 2.

B, What i was saying is that when Vivendi annouce a release date for the UK there will also be a Release Hour in the Uk too i.e. 26th November 2004 10am/11am/etc,etc kinda like some film releases have done in the past and not started showing till a certain hour in the day

As I said before tho this is what i heard them talking about quite excitedly imo and kinda fits with CVG's posting about no firm date in Nov set yet...

Btw Game has just updated their website and theve not changed from TBC for about 5 months but now state Nov 2004

It looks increasingly like November. Problem is, it looks increasingly AFTER my birthday.

Shit.

Hehe....my birthday is November 30th! Just in time...

hmm, confusing. I think he maybe misunderstood what was said in an article?

I dont see why a game would be released at a certain "hour" anyway it just doesnt make sense. Its usually just midnight or when the stores open.

Ok so a store opens at 9 am and you go in to buy Half Life 2 but the clerk says "I am sorry you can't buy Half life 2 until 11:00 am because that is the release hour."

That does not make sense.

I will give you the release hour..

MIDNIGHT

(on the day it is released)

if it's like any other game it will be released at midnight the day of released............. :naughty:

Valve says they will release the game via Steam as soon as it goes gold. Theoretically, they can give an hour when the simultaneous release via steam is going to occur, for each timezone.

But, even if they are proclaiming retail release, then they could still give an exact time per timezone of when it will be officially "released" to the public.

The question I have is... Why do they think they can manage to release a game at a certain hour, when they can't even estimate the release date to within a certain year ?

when di d they say it was available on steam when it goes gold? last i heard it was available on steam when it's available retail

You may be right. I looked for confirmation of what I thought I read but was unable to do so. For now, I'll have to put that speculation on hold.

However, I am pretty sure I read somewhere that Valve had said that Steam customers would get to buy the game soon after the gold. Obviously they would need to do a certain number of things, but it should take much less time than the retail packaging would.

I would think that Valve would want to start grabbing the dough as soon as possible. of course we'll have to see if Vivendi can get an injunction issued to prevent Valve from offering the game online. They may have the right to delay that until the court has a chance to hear the case. I mean it's a pretty critical consideration. Or, they could sort out the monwy details later.

well it might make sense if you consider steam...

And would VU bother to announce a release hour that would only matter on Steam, which VU has nothing to do with?

They should release it right now on steam
vivendi does't deserve any money :p
