OK, so get this, my friends older system that I am working on starts acting wacky (note this happened well before I worked on it), boots occasionaly, and sometimes won't even go to the POST screen.
Note: Older system specs
AMD T-Bird 1Ghz <works
2 x 256MB PC 133 <don't know
ATI RADEON 9100 Xtasy <works
iWill KK266 plus <don't know
Now, when it boots, or the lack there-of, it gives me repeating long beeps.
So I go check the web, it says for a KK266plus, that repeating long beeps are a sign of a DRAM error. Not good. So I check it out, remove a stick, move them around (2x256MB) ya know, basic layer 1 trouble shooting. Still no effect, I even take the modules out and boot it, still no effect? I am unsure if it is supposed to even beep for a DRAM error if there are none present?
So, I am wondering if now the mobo is bad? Perhaps the DRAM error is caused by the mobo not even being able to pick them up in the first place? I would doubt that both sticks went bad? It would be more likely that the mobo went bad perhaps?
I really don't want to have to tell him that he now has to go spend $285 for a new CPU-MOBO-RAM combo to replace his older one...
However the newer one is nicer:
Asus A7V8X-X w/ AMD 2600+ 333FSB copper shim included
512MB DDR 400 RAM
If you guys know something bad about that Asus mobo, then please tell me...
