Tens of thousands of Irish children were sexually, physically and emotionally abused by nuns, priests and others over 60 years in a network of church-run residential schools meant to care for the poor, the vulnerable and the unwanted, according to a report released in Dublin on Wednesday.

goddam hypocritical assholes

this makes me see murderous red:

The report, by a state-appointed commission, took nine years to produce and was meant to help Ireland face and move on from one of the ugliest aspects of its recent history. But it has infuriated many victims’ groups because it does not name any of the hundreds of individuals accused of abuse and thus cannot be used as a basis for prosecutions.

It was delayed because of a lawsuit brought by the Christian Brothers, the religious order that ran many of the boys’ schools and that fought, ultimately successfully, to have the abusers’ names omitted.

****ing cult defending it's own members from crimes that their religion strictly forbids. they're just as goddam guilty through their complicity and the harbouring of criminals. they should be disbanded, their members imprisoned and their leaders publically flogged

I was. this sort of thing is why I stopped believing: the hypocritical-ness not the abuse

Physical abuse was par for the course it seems back then. My mom used to tell me how her sister was beaten by a nun in their school when younger as she hadn't done her homework. It was just something you 'put up with', didn't speak about.

Ireland is a very tolerant nation.

I had a nun principle in elementary school. she's smack your knucles with a wooden ruler if you misbehaved. the funny thing is if she did that to my kids, I'd go there and punch her out, no questions asked..

Back then pretty much all schools had physical punishment for students.

Bet you wouldn't risk going to jail.

(Sorry, had to be a boner).

Stern I'm gonna go grab this doll so you can show us where they touched you.

But nuns in catholic school were ****ing crazy, I went to a catholic school in Poland for my first and second grade education.

heh at the school I worked at we had an anatomically correct doll that the students used in therapy

" I'm gonna go grab this doll so you can show us where they touched you."

was actually used ..the kid in question was horribly abused by his stepfather :(
