I feel the need to bring up the issue of certain forum-members who go around making 'in-before lock' and 'reported' posts in threads. You guys know who you are. You damn dirty apes. ;)

I consider this to be spam as it in no way helps or contributes to the discussion. They're just uping their post count. They're also provoking the troll or whatever into flaming. Yes people, let's poke the sleeping monster.

This has already been posted ages ago, but because of the recent 'surge' (that I've seen) of people posting 'Reported.' or responding to spam threads, there needs to be something to stop them.

Yesh.

I can never resist fighting people like that, though :|

So you're concerned that a grand total of 5 people on this forum post a spam post when a thread is about to be closed? Yeah, ok, I'm sure you never posted a spam post before

No, it has been happening for weeks now and it's getting pretty annoying.

I would never do anything even remotely related to what you are talking about, Shens.

Quite a few things on these forums have been bugging me recently, i've noticed a massive surge of members recently, or guests should i say, with 57 people or so viewing HL2 general talk, about 45 or so in off topic. I haven't seen numbers like those since about 6-8 months ago. So there seems to be lots of things being said over and over, nothing really new. I'm finding myself just sitting here staring at the posts, but i just cant be arsed to say anything...till now :)
We need more strict moderators, i havent seen warning levels in ages (have they been hidden again? bring back TDE tbh)

maybe we shud vote to decide who can be the most strictest mod.

hmmm

*puts hand up* :sniper:

The warning system is down for the moment, but don't worry it'll be back soon.

With a vengence.

Well whats being updated for the warning system?Or are ya'll just fixing a few bugs with it?

i think there warnings should be coded with colour, not numbers.

wud be kickass

You should come down like a ton of bricks i think, if you make a really bad spelling mistake...6 month ban, spam...1 year ban. Abusive or suchlike...perm ban till the end of time. Warnings kick people into place, you need them. Especially for all these new members. Oh and mod arselickers need a name change to 'whoevers pet' etc and a reality check! Gah not in a good mood tonight at all am i!

New features, ironing out bugs etc :)

We've been testing it extensively, which has resulted in my bannage :O

As long as it says "Munrowned" when someone gets banned....then I'm happy. :D

there needs to be a page that takes over the screen that flashing in a huge font in different colors "MEGA DEATH BAN" and it flashes so fast whom ever watches goes into a seizure :D

Do you have any proof that we don't already employ this tactic?

Personally, I don't a problem with "Reported" posts, although I'd rather not see a forum full of them. However, "In before lock" pisses me off no end. If I see anyone post that, ever, no matter who you are I will ban you for an undetermined amount of time. I'd also ask that if anyone sees anyone post this, that they PM me or report the post FAO me so I can deal with them....personally.

In before loch lomond drains. :p

'QFE'..........thanks for telling me you have the same opinion as someone else without adding anything to it. I will put your opinion in my big table of opinions I have for the forum.

Hmmm raising post count by making , -reported- or "This thread is just spam", posts...Sounds very fimiliar.....

if i gave you proof that one of your own moderation officers (Danimal) did this, then would you ban him?

perhaps not...

Thanks guys for reading this thread and taking my advice oh so dear to the heart.

Might I also suggest adding a five-minute 'cool-down' period for creating new topics? Whoever is in such a dire rush to create so many topics should be held extremely suspiciousgajsghak!

This started at 10:52 PM EST. (GMT -5)

edit: At the time of this edit, 82 spam posts were already made in zeh threads. WTF. LOL. BAN.

edit2: Updating the counter as long as I can.

Yeah, good idea. Maybe even something like 20+ minutes would help keep spammers from posting in every damn section.

I now applaud everyone's efforts in their actions to keep this website safe from spam by doing the complete opposite of what this entire thread entails.

You're welcome. Thank you very very much.

edit: Damn it, synth needs more power. :imu:

edit2: Final count: 82 posts, thanks Pi. :)

The first thing I did was hit the report button.
I usually don't post in spam threads. Unless no Mods are on for well over two hours. (well I think Asus was on, but he doesn't have the power) :p

I admit I spam quite a bit.
I'll stop with the IBL posts now.

...What are Datrix and Shens on about? Was there another spammer creating topics in every forum? There was one like that a few days ago as well.

This user here created a number of threads that were specifically targeted to phish accounts from people who wanted to try out the DoD:S beta.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/member.php?u=46722

Because of the sleeping arrangements of the moderators, they were unable to close/lock/ban the threads he had made. So, starting at 10:52 PM EST (GMT -5), the threads were soon filled with numerous posters who believed that posting would somehow magically close the threads. They were wrong and added to the spam. The irony of it all was that a few of these posters, who will remain unnamed, thought that their confrontation would actually work and went from thread to thread of his, saying how stupid said spammer was and how his scheme would never work. This went on for over three hours.

I made a counter to check how long it would take before it would finally come to the end. To my dismay, it seems that the vilgilante posters kept on posting even after Pi Mu Rho started deleting the other threads.

Please note that I do not blame the moderators and admins of HL2.net, but rather the members who took it upon themselves to spam the forums when the authorities weren't around.

Yeah you guessed it. He was going in every area trying to steal people's Steam accounts (It didn't even work, though).
Luckily Pi Mu Rho arrived on the scene, and saved the day! :D

Edit:
Shens, you beat me to it. :p

And with a longer, more detailed post to boot. :O
