The Famitsu magazine announces in its number of this week the development of the play Resident Evil 5 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Although the first information seems confused, Resident Evil 5 would be under development under the supervision of Jun Takeuchi (Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2) and would use the system set up under Resident Evil 4. To also note that the character present on the images would not be other than Chris. Capcom does not have for the moment not brought more precision on the date of exit of its play.

Doesn't it kind of seem early in development for screens like that? :|
... or I could just have no clue what I am talking about.

If RE5 is coming out for the 360 it's as good as bought.

Awesome!!!! Im a huge RE fan.

Those screens look amazing. I hope they're in real-time.

That looks pretty impressive! I enjoyed playing older ones at a mates house, can't remember the number of it, but i thought it was pretty cool

The latest issue if Famitsu is home to first details and screens for Resident Evil 5. As we reported earlier,
Capcom is bringing this next generation survival horror title to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with veteran developer
Jun Takeuchi serving as producer.

Since our initial story, we've learned more details on the game. Takeuchi is somewhat vague in his discussion of what
we can expect from the title gameplay wise, revealing only that Resident Evil 4, with the wealth of changes made
by director Shinji Mikami, caused excitement amongst Capcom's development staff as a whole, particularly those who
had worked on Resident Evil for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Even with the changes, Takeuchi states,
there was no mistake that you were playing Resident Evil. We can apparently expect something that, similarly,
maintains the taste of Resident Evil while featuring big changes from the traditional play format.

Images shared by the magazine were taken from a two minute high definition video clip in which the game's main character
finds himself in the alleys of a desert city, being chased by a mysterious group of enemies.
In describing the setting and content of the game,
Takeuchi recalls a scene from the film Black Hawk Down, when a US chopper crashes to the ground and is swarmed by natives.
The theme of getting out of a tight corner is a staple of the original Resident Evil, and is something that the development staff wants to work on with RE5.

The video does not actually reveal the nature of the enemies that are pursuing the main character.
The primary enemy is a new element to the game and it's currently a closely guarded secret. The enemy are meant to come after you in great numbers,
conveying the sense of insanity of hoards of natives that Takeuchi took away from Black Hawk Down.
We can apparently expect something along the lines of the primary enemy in Resident Evil 4, who spoke a language
that you were unable to understand and were more advanced than the zombies that have appeared in previous RE games.
Takeuchi and crew are actually working on ways to make the enemy even more expressive this time around.

The development staff is paying extra attention to the game's environments, with Takeuchi stating that one of the tastes of past
Resident Evil games was that of the player walking slowly through a dark and damp environment. This time, we can also expect wider,
brighter environments, including scenes of intense sunlight.

As expected of a next generation game, RE5 runs in high definition, and one of the things the development staff wanted to do
was use the new visual power at its hands to communicate the sense of atmosphere to the player. The images in the trailer clip
are meant to convey a sense of high temperature. In fact, heat is a central theme to the game, with Takeuchi suggesting that when
it's particularly hot, you'll want to cool down in a cave.

With regards to main character and background setting, Takeuchi states that we should be able to figure out the main character
when we consider that members of the development team that created the original Resident Evil are working on this game. This would suggest that
the main character pictured in the magazine is Chris (the bearded character in all the screenshots does resemble an older version of Chris).

Takeuchi won't reveal when we'll be able to play Resident Evil 5, only stating that we'll have to wait until the next generation systems
are available. He assures us that out of all of Capcom's game projects, this one is getting the most attention, and this is why development will take some time.

A Capcom representative reveals to the magazine that a Tokyo Game Show showing for Resident Evil 5 is not out of the question. IGN is hoping that, with Sony's PlayStation Meeting press conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon and Microsoft's Xbox Summer scheduled for this coming Monday, we'll get a glimpse even sooner than that.

Capcom's alliance with Nintendo lasted long didn't it?

A few years ago:
"Capcom have 5 exclusive games for the Gamecube including the next entry into the RE franchise."

Of those,
1 was cancelled,
1 was very poor,
1 was Viewtiful Joe,
1 was RE4
And 1 was Killer 7.

Dead Phoenix I can understand, it looked tat.
PN 03 didn't get me excited.
Then the three excellent ones went to PS2 as well. Which isn't too bad.

Now this time Nintendo gets no goods at all? Something fishy there. This leads me to believe one of three things:
1) They haven't seen enough of the Revo to commit to it.
2) The Revo will get a port of it later on. After all, VF, RE4 and K7 were all announced for the GC first.
3) The Revo doesn't cut it graphics wise.

EDIT: One fan's views:

for all u ppl that are pissed off that re5 isn't coming to the revolution lets get serious. resident evil originated on the playstation. resident evil should have never really gone to the gamecube. nintendo is a console that obviously focuses more on the kiddy games when compared to the ps2 and xbox. tho i am not saying the resident evil remake and resident evil 4 on the cube are bad games, they were freakin unbelievable games. but really it makes more sense for the resident evil games to come out on xbox360 and ps3.

and yes resident evil 5 is going to god like. can't wait for it.

*snort* I'd like to see him try to explain Ratchet and Clank and various DDR games being some of the best selling games on the system.

The reason it probably isn't announced for the revolution....is one key fact.

Nintendo has probably kept details away from the developers even.

posts teh screen shots here pls............ the link is broken

Ugh, i liked the old RE's, where the whole point was slow suspense, none of this fast paced action shit. I liked taking my time and worrying about my ammo damnitt, it made the game have a feel. after RE 4, the game just turned into a normal action game with zombies, kinda crappy like Devil MAy cry

I actually don't know why I am annoyed because I never even liked the series. But Resi 4 was a godsend for the GC so it is eternally in my favour.

Ditto.

Gears of War, RE5, Possibly Ninja Gaiden, Perfect Dark 2..........Its pretty much bought already.

The Xbox Summit is coming up in five more days! I can't wait!
Then Sony is having their own meeting, tomorrow.
Then there's the Tokyo Game Show 2005. This gets more awesome.

The screens probally are real but there not running on xbox360s or ps3s their running on TOL pcs.

ok i've just saw the video and im totally blowed me away...I WANT THIS NOW !

I am waiting to see if they can actually top Resident Evil 4, which IMO, I don't think they can. Also, expect this game to come out later in the PS3's and Xbox 360's life cycle, since RE4 took 4 years to develope.

Just as I expected. Hopefully they do it right. I am liking the close quarters combat already (fighting in the city.). They said the environment was inspired by the movie Black Hawk Down, which is by far my favorite movie of all time. (I watched it easily over 15 times). So far, so good. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

OMG

now I am excited

and thanks god is on ps3 too

are those real? my god this next generationg is going to be awsome

From now, or all together, if all together it could've been in dev for 1-2 years, I mean, up to 5 from NOW, that seems a bit late, 2010, by then RE5 will look pretty dated I believe.

did you think RE4 looked dated? they constantly improve upon the graphics as they work on it.. i'm just glad they're taking the time to craft a good game, and they probably have been working on it for at least a year now

Why don't you think it'll top RE4?

No. 4 was amazing (the most enjoyable game i've played in years, infact :)) - but it could certainly be improved upon. Imagine the gameplay of RE4 but with the scares and atmosphere of the original (the main area it fell short) More combo/melee style moves would also be very welcome, as would more elaborate context sensitive action sequences.

I also don't think it'll take that long to develop. 2/3 years tops, probably less.

This is my most wanted game, by miles :)

Resident Evil 4 was very refreshing, if RE5 isn't a new experience, then I doubt it will receive the scores RE4 did. 2/3 years to develop? RE4 took 4 years to develope, and considering this is new hardware Capcom is working on, I would assume it would take longer.

I'm not too fussed about scores, as long as the game is solid. There's no reason why no.5 can't be everything no.4 was and more.

As for how long it takes to develop, that all depends on when Capcom want it finished by. RE4 may have took 4 years, but look at how much they also produced over those few years. If they concentrate on a few games then we may see RE5 sooner than you think.

I agree that RE4 was refreshing. Best of all, it showed that the rather tired survival horror genre has plenty more life in it.

The series can get much better :)
