Er- so if we get the Collector's Edition from retail do we get all the mods too for free or do we have to pay for those seperatly?

Good question,
no idea

We get CS Source and HL1 Source but thats all at this stage (the others are not complete).

Retail CE gets halflife2, Counter strike source, and Halflife: source and an XL t-shirt.

Pay as far as we know.

(I'm getting the steam version for mainly this reason.)

But I want my stylish HL2 T-Shirt.

Oh well, what's the worst DoD can cost me? I don't even play it that much. NS Source!

CS: Source will consume me if I survive HL2 singleplayer.

I heard somewhere dod:s will be a free steam download for retail CE owners.

What mods?

You get CS:S and HL:S. You download any other mods like you usually do. You'll can't get DOD:S with the Collector's Edition because Vivendi aren't Day Of Defeat's publisher. This either means that either Activision have the rights to publish it or that Valve don't want to sign another publishing deal with Vivendi. Either way, Vivendi aren't allowed to make money off it.

The retail collector's edition will contain HL2, HL:S, CS:S, a Prima sampler book, and an XL t-shirt. Oh yeah, and a special box. It will be priced at 79.99, I believe.

First off, I don't want a sampler book, or the T-Shirt. Hell, I got a t-shirt for free by emailing Valve. All I want that's in the Collector's Edition is Half-Life: Source, and I don't think an extra 30 bucks justifies buying it.

I was always planning about buying the collector's edition, but now that I know what's in it, and how much it is, I'm definately reconsidering.

You get HlS, Hl2, Cs:s. Those games if you order or gold or silver through steam you also get DOD:S which will be available seperate later on.

So, everyone that want's a cd will be "punished" by Valve... nice.

Real gamers explore the game themselfs. What is the fun in getting told what to do?

I'd say punished by vivendi...it's thier actions that have made valve resort to such measures. While i don't really care what happens between 2 companies, i know that valve will be far better off with a different publisher. Maybe the next game won't be such a fiasco.

I'm sick of being used as a pawn in a contract war. If i didn't want HL2 so bad, i'd just nix the whole valve/vivendi works from my life.

I wasn't responding to your post.
It's Valve's decision to include some of the Source-ports in the Steam version only. Therefore it's Valve that is "punishing" the CD-people.

That's probably ture.

I don't think HL² is a fiasco. If you meant that the publishing side of HL² is a fiasco, you would be right.

What do you mean?
That if you buy a shop version of HL² you won't be able to get the same "goodies" as if you would buy a Steam version.

Listen, Day of Defeat was published by Activision. So I'm pretty sure that DoD:S has to be published by them. (Or at the very least, Day Of Defeat: Source doesn't have a publisher. Valve would be unwilling to sign another contract with Vivendi, don't you think?)

Vivendi aren't allowed to make money by selling it any more than you and I are.

So..... it's free? Day of Defeat used to be anyway....
