Revolution's official name

Revolution's official name has been announced and it is....


Nintendo Wii

And just in case you didn't work it out yourself, that is pronounced "we". Or "wee."

I really hope that is just the Japanese name because I can already see people calling it the Nintendo Urine.

If the whole of that on the site is in English, it's likely to be the English name.

Nice play on words and letter shapes (double ii = controllers), but still a bit... meh to me.
 
What the hell is wrong with 'Revolution'? Out of anything they could pick in the world, they had to find a name that shares association with the anatomy of the body. I hope they got it wrong, and it's pronounced we-i or something.

According to some people the official pronunciation is wee-eye. But to me that sounds like some sort of gross sex game. D:
 
That's because that's what we will all be saying when we prance around our lving rooms with the Revmote, "WHHEEEEE!!" :p

Just like HL2: Aftermath (nice title) -> HL2: Episode 1 (meh).

I'd call the revolution, the "Nintendo ∞"

My god, who is in charge of their marketing departement, Wii means various things :

1. Urine
2. We (we are)
3. A penus

If it was just Wi, as in Wi-Fi, I think that would be kinda hot, but Wii pronounced like wee? THats totally gay, but the revolution wasn't that good of a name either imho, I liked the nintendo Go name best so far, even though it's not a portable, which kinda kills that too.

Just call it The Rev

The video makes Wii look really hot, but I will never pronounce it like that. Ever. It will be pronounced "Y" as in Y nintendo WHY?!
 
Nintendo Woozaa is the correct and only real name for Nintendo Revolution!
 
Imagine it inconversation:

"Are you going to buy an Xbox 360, or a Wii?"
"Hey, fancy coming over and having a go on my Wii?"
"So how much is that Wii?"

Just plain Nintendo would be better.

Hmm, this might generate so much controversy and discussion that it would seem Nintendo really does know what they are doing by naming it the equivalent of penis!!

They would create nursery rhymes to humiliate children. "My daddy and me, we play with my wii!"

If anything, everyone's going to be talking about it :D

In all honesty it's not that bad if you dont think of a console name having to be something that sounds cool when you talk about it with your young male friends. I think in time it will kind of become one of those catchy tech buzzwords or something, sort of similar to the ipod.

Nintendo definitely wasn't kidding when they said they wanted to distance themselves from the other companies, I seriously think the "Nintendo Wii" is alot more appealing and less threatening to a non-gamer than XBOX360!@#@!#!

With that said, I thought Nintendo Revolution was pretty good, but I understand their approach in trying to broaden their audience.

plus, if you were planning on buying it anyways, would this really change your mind
 
When the first named the Gamecube... i didnt like it much, but now i love it.
When they first showed the Wii's controller... nobody liked it really... now most people do.
I'm sure the Wii name will grow on people too... and seeing as everyone will be talking about Wii its good publicity :)

Go Nintendo! :D

Bah. Typical. As lame as it is, the name is one of the most important parts of a console. The "Revolution" actually sounded quite good. I should've known Nintendo would f*ck up. Good job, guys :|

I immediately understood why they have used all of their previous names... I liked the touch screen idea from the start... and it only took me about 10 minutes to warm up to the wand/remote idea... but this one has me stumped. I can't think of a single good reason to call it Wii. The closest I can come to a reason is that the shape of the controller, the built-in vibration, and the name combine to make it sound like a dildo... and they want to appeal to female gamers.

Well the only reason i can think of "Wii" is for "We". Which has already been stated :p

Give it some more time to sink in... this ones a little mor extraordinary than the usual names they choose from :p

Plus i'm kinda a Nintendo fanboy... ;)
 
I've thought long and hard over a dinner of scrambled egg and beans and I can officially say... I...like the new name...

I'll be sticking with "Revolution"...

I won't ever call my Revolution a "Wii" if I can help it.

It changed the mind of two of my friends. They're both now going for the DS Lite instead.

Talk about stupidity. I happen to like it still, despite the name. Everyone will be calling it the Revolution still.
 
Oh man i think that name just made me want to get a Wii. I love it, think its a awsome name.
