Revolution's offcial name

It changed the mind of two of my friends. They're both now going for the DS Lite instead.

Talk about stupidity. I happen to like it still, despite the name. Everyone will be calling it the Revolution still.

I'll be getting both. A name change isn't going to change my mind about a product unless it REALLY takes away from the item and there's an alternative.

plus, if you were planning on buying it anyways, would this really change your mind

Probably not. I havn't decided yet anyway regardless of name.

I have to say that i cringe everytime nintendo do this to themselves. A good name is crucial to getting your product across to people who aren't return customers, especially when you are falling behind your competitors as it is. They've marketed the revolution well up until now, to the point where someone might see it in a magazine or shop window and be pretty tempted by it. But with that sort of crappy name it makes people think twice about it. Is it silly for the name to affect your choice? yea. Does it happen? quite a lot.

It has a domino effect too. If all those people get put off by the name, it means less interest in the *gulp* wii as a whole, meaning less third party support, meaning a weaker system.

Nintendo really have shot themselves in the foot with the name. Their marketing team hired an(or a bunch of them) idiot

What would i call it? The Nintendo Dekstar. I miss having my very own dekstar :<

This really pisses me off.

I haven't read the thread, but I'll bet you a pound sterling someone's already made that joke.

In other news:

So, do I get the money?

Hah! I win!

Dammit. And here was Nintendo's chance to come up with a cool system name. My personal choice is "Tit-grabbing Deathmonsterkill Pain Engine". Now I'd buy one of those.

Oh dear. This reminds me of something where it reads good in Japanese, but when translated over it's just lame. Like Engrish.

Weee... no thanks.

Also, can someone tell me if Wi-Fi is pronounced Wee-Fee? I hope it isn't or I've been saying it wrong all this time.

Ugh... they're reeeally gonna regret this. I seriously think they just blew their chances at actually creating a successful console.

This year's E3

Shame about the missing f :p .

Meh. I care not a jot. The codename for the Gamecube was Dolphin, and now it's vice-versa with Revolution/Wii.

I just can't wait to see what this thing does.

This name is certainly taking the piss

Yo ho ho, I most certainly believe I am a God of word play

WTF?! And I thought Xbox 360 was a crap name. I be embarassed to walk out of the store with something called a "Wii".

NOOOOOOO! I was hoping they would keep to Revolution and release a Dance Dance Revolution game to it and like the typical blokes Nintendo are call it "Dance Dance Revolution Revolution".

I have a theory.

The name "Wii" will not catch on. But not because it sounds borderline retarded. No.

It won't catch on for the simple reason that it contains only one syllable.

Think about it. Google, iPod, Yahoo, Napster, Kazaa, LimeWire, Half-Life, X-box, Gamecube, CD, HD, TV, ... All these terms are two syllables. But single-syllable names are far less common (at least as far as I can recall right now), and I can't remember any single-syllable titles that are of decent-or-greater catchiness right now.

Maybe I'm subconsciously trying to support my argument, but it seems like the best product names are two or more syllables long.

[edit] And I apologize in advance if anyone's posted this theory already. I haven't given the thread a read yet... Just felt like posting this first.

Let's check the theory:

Zyr.

Oh, too bad.

I said "decently catchy." And I've never heard of Zyr vodka before about ten seconds ago.

And Zyr isn't all that catchy anyway. My theory stands. *crosses arms angrily*

The Wildlife Institute of India will not be happy about this.

Nintendo just amazes me sometimes... they'll go to unfathomable lengths to screw themselves over.

sweet jesus. what jackass came up with this name. Seriously..this better be a very late april fools joke.

And the answer is NO, I will NOT change my signature due to this.

Haha, Daminal that's ace :D

And the Wii video by Nintendo is very cool. Typical Nintendo video too. I like it. I like the name Wii now too. :)
