Revolution's offcial name

Hehe...interesting:

Like the name or not, every single tech related webpage, blog, or forum was talking about the Wii yesterday. You can't buy that kind of media exposure. And Nintendo got it for free yesterday. The little poem they wrote explaining the meaning of Wii might have been a bit cheesy, but A++ in Business 101 for Nintendo.

You know. If they make a handheld version of the Wii they'll have to call it the wee-Wii.

"I can't find my wee-Wii!"

Got Wii?

It's true though. Even people at college who I didn't expect to know about the Wii name knew about it. That's gotta be some good publicity right there.

I like to "play" with my "Wii" if you know what I mean.

Masturbate.

The point about the lack of a Wii copyright is very interesting. Seeing as Nintendo copyright everything. They've already copyrighted a design for a DS that uses 2 stylus (styli?) which they will probably never use, but it was an idea and they don't want people stealing it.

He's just doing it for fun and is putting up various chops that come from this whole "Wii" fiasco.

re: the wii conspiracy, i notice that gamespot hasn't changed the name on the menu yet, nor has gamespy. they could be in on it :p

Wii is a fine name... All of you have already remembered it. Recognition marketing is complete in what, 1 day?

Yeah, that's what Ctrl Alt Del said, plenty of free marketing. But think about it, what's better for us, Nintendo getting free advertising or a cool name for our system?

But then there's the theory on Wii being a fake name. Interesting, indeed. It seems odd to me that Nintendo would do something like this. Seems a tad unprofessional, but then again, it's Nintendo, and lot's of strange stuff has come from them. ("Touching is Good")

Wii'll see.

I'm putting my vote in the "fake" column... if only out of hope.

lol 'touching is good'

Everyone is talking about the Nintendo Wii. It's creating enough of a 'buzz', to get everyone ****ed up for months.

There is no such thing as bad publicity.

The name Wii just rolls of the tongue doesn't it? LOL

Like I said before, this name is so bad, that it's working like magic to get publicity. Everyone is talking about the Nintendo Wii

It's creating such a huge 'buzz', everyone is getting '****ed up'.

Sure there is. Nintento's shit is publicied enough already. I lost respect for nintendo's naming department because of this Wii thing. That is bad publicity right there.

Yeah but on the flipside, do you really think a cool name would make someone want to buy it?

EEEEWW, I just stepped in somebody's nintendo wii. gross

Would you want to buy a pink coloured system called "fluffy kitty play center", or would you rather buy something like "THE ULTIMATE SUPER AMAZING GAMING MACHINE OF DEATH!!!!!" (with explosions)

We're talking about a name change here... And exxagerations don't prove anything in actual situations. :p

I wouldn't really care less because I know many other people are going to be buying it and it's awesome either way.

I don't know what is going on in the world today. It's like whatever has the stupidest name wins. Google? Yahoo? maybe if it had two O's. The Nintendo Woo. The name Nintendo is pretty bad in my opinion, but everyone just got used to it. If a product is bad, you begin to associate the name as bad. If the product is good, you begin to associate the name as good.

For example, the Atari Jaguar had a pretty decent name yeah? How about the Atari Lynx? But every time I hear the word Atari Jaguar, or Atari Lynx I think "piece of shit low quality, low performance, low impact plastic complete failure", I don't think "Cool ass black cat that will tear you to shreds".

Speaking of Google or Yahoo; I am still having trouble accepting the fact that these are now household names. Explaining to your girlfriend to "Just google it" is humiliating. If something is good enough though, eventually it will have been around so long, that you don't even think about it anymore, and mabye she should feel stupid for not knowing about it - like what do you live in a cave?

Does Nintendo really want a console that people are embarrassed to talk about in Public though?

Do I have to send a friend in to buy it for me to avoid humiliation? It's like being in line behind a lady buying a douche. It's just embarrassing for everybody.

Say this sentence: "We were playing Wii and all we could think about is how we thought Wii is a horrible name, and we avoid using it in conversation because every time we do, we feel embarrassed."

On paper, the 'word' Wii looks cool. I just don't like the pronunciation of it. Saying it is just ridiculous. Every word is really weird if you think about it enough though. Either they will change it, or we will get used to it.

I think it is interesting that in the article posted that he claims the name Wii hasn't been copyrighted. I wonder if that is true. If it is true, then maybe they could release an online vote for the name of the system. That would work.

The bottom line is, I want one, even if I have to send a friend in to buy it for me.

Dude, Virus, I know this sounds weird coming from me, but lighten up or something 0_0 SixThree wasn't serious or anything. And if you wanted him to be, well then just ignore it or something. I know how you feel right now, and it's not worth getting angry over, you'll learn to laugh along.

Please don't leave... :(

I know he was joking, but it was a really immature joke, does anyone think it was funny? And one that was directed at me. If he said, the Wii sounds like taking a pee, or something stupid like that I wouldn't have been annoyed because Nintendo isn't me.

But I typed all of that shit, spending my free time for the benefit of conversation and offering my insight, and he says "what? you want to buy a douche?" Yea, because your Mom smells horrible. Is that what I was supposed to say? Then it isn't considered taking it too serious? :)

He insulted me, I insulted him back. I didn't think I took it too serious. A little annoyed but whatever. Maybe you saw what he said as a joke and what I said as being serious, but it could have been the other way around. Never mind, I just .. Never mind.
8) smile

SixThree is cool with me, I shouldn't feel bad that my insults are much better than other people's though. >=)

You don't need to worry Virus, I know exactly how you feel. You didn't need that third line there, I knew you weren't angry. I know how you felt too. But why do you think that Sixthree is the only guy who read it? Just because he is the only one who posted? That doesn't really make much sense. I mean, I read and understood it. :)

Wow. If I knew you were going to get upset I wouldn't have posted :| Sorry if you took it personally.
Back on topic: I like the name. Wii. It's very catchy, which is obviously what they had in mind.

Kid 1: "Hey you wanna go play with my Wii?"
Kid 2: "You're gay."

I see this name ruining many, many good friendships.

SixThree it's nothing man. I actually didn't take it personally.

I guess I was a bit annoyed to be honest, but all I did was insult you back. You said 'You want a douche that bad?', and I said, basically - 'grow up kid you're buggin me.' :hmph: The end :)

Apparently it may be a sneaky scheme thought up by Nintendo to generate some free publicity to help with the hype towards E3...

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3150098

Wii hasn't been copyrighted yet, which is very wiierd :)P) for Nintendo... Maybe they will unviel the real name at E3.

I don't buy that. Nintendo isn't that clever.

The havn't copyright the name yet though... Doesn't seem right.

I like the name Wii though, so either way I don't mind :)

Can't we trademark wii for ourselves and be rich if they stick to the name and try and get the copyright off us?

And just to prove that we do indeed use the copyright we can call the website halflifethwii.net?

Doesn't Wii seem just a bit weird for a console? The name has nothing to do with gaming at all and is even a made up word. I'm taking bets that they reveal the true name at E3.
