First of all I'd like to say is that yes, I've updated HL2. My problem is that I get very long loading times. With a pirate version I didn't. I doubt it's because Steam's slowing things down, because I ran a pirate version with Steam before, and everything seemed fine. It did influence on performance, but not that greatly. What is the problem?

That was brave mentioning, you ran a pirate version.
The pirated version is missing stuff AFAIK, lots of stuff. Thus, less to load. That, or your settings were lower in the pirated version.

could very well be the pirated version didn't have the content compressed into gcf's

I'd say......
Did you change any settings?
If you put your texture resolution up that could of caused it.

Did you set heapsize to half your RAM?

Do you have:

cl_smooth 0
sv_forcepreload 0
cl_forcepreload 0
mat_forcemanagedtexturesintohardware 0

Apply those options and see if there is a difference.

System specs?

PS: anything less than 512 isnt going to cut it, I dont care if its DDR.

I had little loading times even when I had 256 SDRAM. Now I have 512 SDRAM, the loading times became a tid bit shorter. But now, I have to wait like 2-5 mins for each map to load. Literally.

While I try out the console commands given by DrDevin, any idea why I can't sign in into the Friends Network?

Id say your computer is just pish.
I'd say you're pish. If you don't have anything good or informative to say, then don't say anything at all. I'm asking for aid, not for flame. Grow up.

What is your Model\Texture detail set at?

Both Medium. But that's not the point. I already said, that even when I played on higher settings it didn't influence on the loading. Well maybe unnoticably bit. It's probably because every map and its resources are packed, and my poor Celeron does a bad job unpacking them in-game. Guess the only thing I can do is either upgrade my CPU, or unpack all of the cfgs, if the game will use the unpacked resources, that is.
