Tried it, don't like it. It's just not my thing.
I never understood the appeal of Starcraft... just seemed to be another cookie cutter RTS. All Blizzard games seem to get revered whilst I'm left thinking... MEH.

Now Homeworld. That's an RTS I can recommend to anyone. What do you mean this is a FPS thread? ^^ (actually, on that subject - someone should make an FPS or Space Sim game in the HW universe. I'd do it myself but umm... i'm not a games developer :P )

<3 relic entertainment, Homeworld and Dawn of War both kick ass.

Starcraft was half it's amazing immersion, the music and graphics and story come together sooooooo beautifully. Especially because I was nine when I started playing it in 1998.

Star craft simply has the best gamesplay of any rts till date.

I reckon they were being a bit tongue in cheek with the plotting of that game.. there were plenty of jokes if you looked close enough.

For example; one thing that cracked me up was the stupid hawaiian shirt you wear.
When you get on the boat, the PA announcer is saying something like "be on the lookout for a dangerous man, armed etc, shoot on sight. He is wearing a red hawaiian shirt!" then the guards are all like "Hey you in the shirt!"

You just made me want to play FarCry again!!!!

Never like Starcrafts style and gameplay. More of a C&C or Act of War guy. War hammer is cool also.

So basically... build lots of tanks and then throw them at each other?

DoW has some more strategy than C&C but not much. I <3 dow though.

Also, Serious Sam: The First Encounter and Serious Sam: The Second Encounter are massive fun, especially co-op multiplayer with infinite lives and infinite ammo on the last level of either.

The great thing about Starcraft is this Raziel.
There is more than just it's Melee\TvB.

Tons of diffrent Defence style maps, many Rpg's, many Open Rpg's, many Rp's, Diplomacys, Civilizations, Golems, Massers, tons of diffrent types of maps.
Starcraft has more than one type of thing. :)
--------------
Diplomacys, you never know if your ally will BS you. Your ally may be allied to all your eneimes. Will your ally choose to join you? Join Them? Stay out of it all togeather?

Will you rise to a dominant power, or will you be weaker? Shall you expand? Conquer the weak?

The great thing about it, is that the dominant powers usually control most of the things. The best thing about it is that there is usually more than 1 dominant power. If there is only one he can pretty much play around with the weaker ones. Let them kill eachother.

Lets say you rose to power. Weaker nations seen you and piss there pants. Yet there is another nation. You don't go to war with them right away though. You plan for it though,. You do relize that you are quite a big bigger than the next dominat power. You attack a weaker power for more land.
You just ****ed up.
That next dominant power can usually get everyone to gang up on you.
He attacks you on the front of your nation, you send your men to protect you get dropped at your main producing areas.

Starcraft Diplomacy Marvels RoN, or any other type of Diplomacy game for that matter. It involves alot of microing and strategy. Weaker nations can be your friends..or you eneimes and can turn the tide of battle.

Starcraft Diplomacy just has a thrill in it. I mean 80% of the time I rose to the dominant power :). Through Peace, war everything. I mean RoN could never match up to it.

My good sir, that tactic is very short lived in Act Of War. It doesn't work that well. Suddenly you'll get infantry up the wazoo and some helicopters making short work of your tanks.

NOLF series and Tron 2.0, both Monolith classics, also Doom 3, Jedi Outcast, UT2k4, COD, Tribes: Vengeance, SS2, Half-Life 1, Deus Ex 2, Thief series, Riddick. I can't think of any others, I'm sure I've missed some of my favorites, but I wanted to keep the list as new as possible 'cause i know some people refuse to play old games. I dunno why Unreal 2 is in peoples lists, I mean pew that stinks.

Yeah some moments like that are kinda funny, but whenever i play the game they rarely happen, as the AI can spot me and hear me a mile away....stupid cheating AI
