My friend's mother's brother's cousin's dog works as the Valve macott, and told me HL2 was cancelled. It might be true, it's a legit source! :O

I don't think anyone should treat this as anything but a rumour.

2. Once the product has gone GOLD it will be released on Steam ASAP (nothing to more to be done, so why not ASAP) possibly a couple of days before the planned September 30th CD RTM release depending upon how much Valve get done before Friday the 24th, I guess its there call.

Except Valve and Vivendi have said countless times that HL2 will be released on Steam at the same time as the retail release. Everything else just seems to be "HL2 might be finished soon" with a bit of padding, so I say it's BS.

Spreading rumours is bad. Sooner or later people interpret them as being true and all hell breaks loose.
 
Yeah right, like Vivendi is gonna allow Valve to release it on Steam first.

Anyone with a pulse and a creditcard will order it through Steam, bye bye sales for VUG.

Why does Everyone think that Vivendi wont get any money from the sales trhough steam? I'm sure in any contract any sale that goes through viviendi get's a piece of it. That would be a bad decision on vivendi's part to not get a precentage of the sale.

you need to join my club of "i think VU get a percent of steams revenue" :p... Noone seems to believe that its possible tho -_0. Normally contracts with publishers give them exclusive rights to distrubution, in any media form.

EDIT: maybe we can try and email someone and see if we can get a comment out of them :-\ even though most companies don't like talking bout their precious contract
 
i dont think that the minute it goes gold that steam buyers will play it asap, i remember gabe saying that he wanted everybody to experience the hl2 story the way it should and that by being surprised and the whole game will be spoiled if its being played 2 to 3 weeks before the release
