probably cosmetic surgery needed to repair his missing lower half of his face

When Roger Ebert offhandedly tweeted Monday, after the car crash death of Ryan Dunn, that "Friends don't let Jackasses drink and drive," his fellow tweeters had a few choice words of response. "You're a ******. I hope you get AIDS and then when you're on your deathbed, the hospital blows up and you die a fiery death." "I am sooooo glad u have cancer u dumb ****…cant wait for you to die JACKASS." And "I HOPE YOUR WHOLE FAMILY DIES WITH A DICK IN THEIR ASS."

ebert's quote seems tame by comparison. maybe people should get upset

I've read his Facebook page and it's been full of similar comments. The difference between these comments and Ebert's is that he's a respected and well-known celebrity. Average Facebook retards aren't. Ebert's meant to be intelligent. More than I can say for whoever said that stuff to Ebert.

All I can say is just as Dunn's family didn't deserve Ebert's comment, Ebert doesn't deserve to be told to get AIDS and die.

we've made fun of a ton of people who have exited this world in just as specatcular a fashion. I dont see why Dunn should get extra consideration. I guess we're all douchebags

I think Stern has a valid point here.

so the **** what? people think he's a douchebag. cry me a river. he's still right. we've made fun of a ton of people who have exited this world in just as specatcular a fashion. I dont see why Dunn should get extra consideration. I guess we're all douchebags

i think this point deserves recognition. making fun of the way people die is like, a regular and awesome pastime at hl2.net. the **** does a jackass cast member get the sympathy card?

I don't think anyone had a problem with people making fun of deaths, but I think there was a lot more than that going on here.

But I barely have been paying attention to this thread anyway and I keep reading the title as "Ryan Dunn, you're dead." :V

Because no one's going to tweet me saying "way to get ahead in life" to thousands of mourning people.

To conclude the amazing discussions going on in this thread.

It was his own damn fault and if he was willing to act like such an idiot regarding his own life and the safety of those around him, then this was inevitable. It's probably best he did go, acting like that, before he actually hurt somebody else (not including the passenger).

Because no one's going to tweet me saying "way to get ahead in life" to thousands of mourning people.

sooo... the amount of people mourning the death is directly related to how tasteless the joke is?

because im pretty sure hl2.net has made fun of loads of deaths that its own members could potentially be mourning. like this one! or everybody's favorite, this one

i mean i get your point because ebert has the ability to be read by the guy's family, and we don't. and if osama was some dude's uncle or that porn star their dad, we would probably quit the thread. but i still think its comparable and that everybody has their panties in a bunch about something stupid.

Comparing Ryan Dunn to Osama Bin Laden. Really?

Why is this thread still going? The guy died last week, GET OVER IT ALREADY.

sooo... the amount of people mourning the death is directly related to how tasteless the joke is?

No, I don't actually give a toss how tasteless the joke is, which is why I have no problem making them myself. Alls I'm saying is he put the comment out there on his twitter, which is a public platform, presumably monitored by many of his fans, who presumably have their own platforms on which to spread (retweet) any controversial comments he makes, which might then find their way to people who would react poorly to them. Granted, I'm making a few presumptions there, but could Ebert not have done the same? The mere fact that he made the comment and it did find its way to someone who reacted poorly tells me that perhaps he should have had a bit more foresight, something he tacitly admits in his apology, whether genuine or not.

Let me give it to you by way of analogy (also, hyperbole!). Who's the more insensitive one, the person who makes a crass or vulgar joke at the expense of someone recently deceased in private, or the person who makes a much more tasteful, yet still objectionable comment at their funeral? It's not how "wrong" the comment is that concerns me, it's the practical effect it has on the people who receive it.

Man that was way more words than this thread deserves. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, I probably could have explained my position more clearly before, I just didn't really feel like it. :v
