I woke up early today to catch up on the headlines, and what an awful day this short day has been. I wish I could go to Iraq and rescue this poor man :( Let's hope that his death sentence sparks enough outrage among the Iraqis and brings about enough civil unrest into that country to make the US and the puppet government of Iraq curse the day they sentenced Saddam Hussein to death. I want all hell to break loose in that country. I want the US forces out of that country. Then his death won't be in vain.
 
It's a pity that he will be killed before he has recived all the judges against him.

Seriously now, Saddam does deserve to die. I'm quite surprised they even bothered with this whole trial thing.
 
Haha, oh wow. Insurgency is gonna go through the roof after all of this, great news to hear on my birthday however! Here's to you Saddam, you n00b, should've known camping in a hole somewhere would've got you owned.

As for Saddam, if the death sentence brings stability to the country, so be it.

Killing Saddam won't make any difference. I'd prefer if he be alive, in prison, or somewhere. Killing him just makes it "easy" for him. Why not keep him alive and let him face each new morning with the knowledge that he ****ed up and lost his dictatorship?
 
I doubt the insurgents like sadam anymore than we do.

Agreed. Human rights doens't apply to people who aren't really "human"; Suddamm may look and sound human, but he is clearly messed up.
 
Whatever they do to Sadam they should do to Bush and Blair.

I think most of his supporters only really cared about the power that Saddam gave them. If I'm not mistaken, Saddam wasn't known for being a very religious person. I doubt he'll become a martyr.

Hanging him is definitely more humane than letting him rot in the iraqi prisons that are well known for their use of torture. Surely you would support the humane method, instant death, rather than the inhumane method, lifelong torture?

I would like to see him killed for what he has done, however an eye for an eye never solves anything. Once he is killed he will be regarded as a martyr by terrorists and used as a recruitment method persuading people to purge the earth of the 'evil occupiers' and their respective civilians at home

He shouldn't be allowed to return to any sort of 'civillian life' at the very least, but whatever is best for maintaining some kind of stability in Iraq would be a good choice. Killing him will anger some people, appease others. Putting him in prison for life will anger other people and appease still others. There isn't one solution that will make everybody happy (I don't think anything can make everyone happy over there), and I'm not sure there can be pure justice after what's gone on by ALL parties involved. I'd like to think they'd choose a punishment that would be the best for the people over there in terms of justice and stability. I don't even know what that would be? :|
 
Who will buy the broadcasting rights for the hanging? Fox News?

Very true, but does the anger that would have risen if the iraqis couldn't try him at their own court, outweigh the fact that he might possibly become a martyr if he wasn't tried at an international court? It's all about meassuring whatever will create more violence.

As far as I know there is no international law that states Saddam must be tried at an international court, since he's basically the same as a murderer except with more deaths on his conscience. As far as I remember there wasn't any huge international outcry about the decision to try him at an iraqi court.
 
Stupid. Just letting this man rot in jail would humiliate this man and take away any heroic status he may still have had for some people in Iraq. Now he becomes a martyr indeed.
 
Indeed, it is pretty stupid, the people giving the verdict must realise that. If they realise the consequences of how groups will feel and react then it's almost as if they want to risk increased tension and possible escalation of conflict and violence.

Fully agree, if they sentence him to life in prison he will rot away.
Also, I dont believe in the death sentence as a method of punishment.

He killed Iranians, Kurds, invaded Kuwait, as well as firing missles at Israel and commited genocide.

If he's not elligible to be tried at an international court, I'm not sure who is.
 
Hanging is still around? Wow. Didnt notice the 'sentenced to hang' part.

And i agree with Nih. Technically he's just a murderer, if you take into consideration the definition of it by law. He was the leader of a country. So if thats the case, Bush should be trialed against sending troops into Iraq. Granted the situation MAY have gotten worse if he HADNT done it, but he lied his way in so he actually sent troops to their deaths. Isnt that murder too?

But this isnt another Bush flame thread, so back to the hanging. Rejoice how the world will soon have one less piece of scum in it!

On a more serious note, Saddam is a ***** for not killing himself the moment his capture became imminent, like Hitler did. He could still kill himself though. I bet he could stop breathing or bang his head against a wall until he breaks it, or maybe stab himself in the chest with a sharpened toothbrush =)
