After following this trial for the past couple days I have a couple comments that I thought i would share. maybe some of you have the same views

1. Saddam is being tried for the deaths of 140 people which occured in 1982. I don't know if I missed anything, but hasn't Saddam done a lot worse? wasn't there a rumor that he gased his own people? Arn't there more crimes against humanity that this man has caused? Based on certain evidence, is this the only thing we have for a certainty against this man?

2. The trial seems to be very disjointed and unorginized. I can understand that it is being made so by Saddam and his possie but shouldn't this trial be more...professional? Saddam didn't show up to his own trial, that reflects very poorly on the newly established Iraqi judicial system.

3. Why are the judges being so timid? I can understand that the weight of the worlds eyes are on their shoulders but Saddam has no power, he is a prisoner with no rights and should be treated as such.
I can also understand that they have the constant fear of being assasinated but when they are in that courtroom, they are the supream power and should "lay the smackdown on Saddam and company" to let them know that they shouldn't speak out of turn.

4. some of the testimonies seem weak based on what I know of american law (which is extremely limited) But some of those witnesses could not vouch that they saw Saddam at thier torture sessions or that they saw him at all. None the less, Saddam's government did execute these crimes and he is indirectly responsible, but with out direct proof from some of these witnesses.

In all, my conclusion is that even though Saddam is overwhelmingly guilty and will recieve execution, i think the trial overall, is progressing poorly

i'd say, "Saddam, stop acting like a little bitch and shut the **** up....as you were saying witness number 3..."

these judges are probably the same judges who were subservient to him when he was in power - they couldn't just create judges out of thin air

Its intresting.
I think the USA are scared of Sadam saying something they don't want him to.
Like all the nerve gas he got off them and the like.

Didn't he say **** off today? Fabulous!

Saddam has been so damn amsuing thus far, it's horrible.

And then he and his defense team walked out, which I didn't know you could do in a trial for crimes against humanity. You can literally just go "I don't care for this". - Jon Stewart

It's odd that they allow his lawyers to leave, and then just postpone the trial. They should be like, right your lawyers walked out on you, tough shit, now you're on your own! Fabulous!

Quit it with the fabulous crap! You sound like a bunch of hair stylists!

Anyways... They better not let him go free cause they're scared of him... or else somebody is gonna have to get assassinated. namely saddam...

Saddam's trial is a joke!

Agreed.

The US needs to get their noses out of other people's bussiness.

There was an attempted assassination in 1982 then Saddam had all those men rounded up , interrogated, then killed. There's a lot of evidence including video of him chatting to the so called conspirators.

The prosecution thinks they can get a quick death penalty with this case alone that's why they're starting with it. If not, they'll just move onto the next atrocity.

They could have started with the gassing of thousands of Kurds but blame can be too easily shifted from Saddam to "Chemical Ali". Then you have the issue assoiciated with the then U.S government supplying the chemicals to Iraq which i'm sure the current administration wants to keep fairly quiet.

I wish to relate this to the trials of the Nazi's after WWII. The judges didnt allow any speeches, they told them to shut up if they started. They also tried over 1000 Nazi officials and SS officers, in a few years. It seems that the Saddam trial will last a few years alone. Its being dealt with very unproffesionaly, and is turning into a joke.

You almost had me convinced with your nerve gas proof and all. Almost. But sadly, I felt it lacked in evidence, responsiveness and relevance with the current subject. It was a good try though.

I think the Iraqi's are the scared ones. Here in America judges are anything but timid.

Heh, almost entertaining. Except for the fact that if America was in charge of this trial it would have been a lot faster and honestly, the court would be in control and the prosector would probably have more balls.

Maybe we should send Judge Judy to Iraq? She wouldn't take any lip from Saddam! :naughty:

I'm really growing to like Saddam as a result of this trial. Despite his situation, he's such a badass.

Lol, I didn't know they had a sequel.

I actually had a poli science professor tell me today that this trial is by far more entertaining then the Simpson one.
