I was reading a thread over at the PA forums and thought "Hey, maybe we haven't spoken about it at HL2.net" and thus, i stole the idea and hooned my way back over here with it. And if there is already a thread on this, if i ressurect it i risk being flamed, and if i start a new thread on a topic thats being done before, i get flamed.

Anyway, whats your scariest gaming moment? Or one of your scariest gaming moments?

I've got a few

System Shock 2: The whole damn game. Scariest game i've ever played, especially The Body Of The Many part.

Operation Flashpoint: I remember doing this single-player mission where you have to take a field of russians with 30 other men. You're running in one big group down there and then they come into, then all hell breaks lose. Soldiers fire at everything, bodies drop left and right, bullets zinging by my head, you know, the usual. And then a couple of tanks come out from behind the woods and i'm like, yeah, no problem. We take out a few tanks (BMP's) and then the big-ass artillery comes along. T-72's and T-80's. At this time its down to about me and 8 other guys, with most of them wounded. So i scurry up to the dead russian in front of me and pick up an RPG launcher and fire at the nearest tank a few times. It blows up. "Easy enough" i thought and i go back for more ammo when i see two tanks right infront of me with their turrets now aiming for my face. Naturally, i soiled myself and ducked, one tank fires and kills pretty much everyone behind me, and then other tank lets fly with its machine gun. "****, I'm dead" i thought as i ducked and then as the tank fires at me with its MG, i move forward ever so slightly and the body in front of me takes every single bullet. Scared the living shit outta me, and it was also the coolest thing i can remember in any game.

Clive Barkers Undying: For the first few levels when you're chasing that werewolf chick. Creepy shizzle

Doom 3: so much there... but monsters bursting from the floor, walls, roof etc, and the radio chatter

Although they were pretty easy to kill...I didn't like the spiders in Doom 3. Once I ran out of ammo and they were just all biting me and I couldnt even see properly as my screen was going all over the place.

Also I remember a part in one of the Half-Life games where I was in a tunnel in nightvision mode and some thing came running around the corner and I shouted and fumbled for the Esc. key.

they seem to design NV modes to make it harder to know whats attacking you instead of easier

All you can see is some green blob running towards you making demented noises!

bliink check your messages :P

Doom3, some of those places were just too creepy. You walk into a room, then walk straight back out again, make sure your weapons are all stocked up, pick the most powerful one and then walk back into the room.

Doom 3(the first hour)
Resident Evil 1&2 (really scary back then)

yeah and Operation Flashpoint is one of the coolest games ever..!

Scairest gaming moments ever... hmmm

When I found out when Doom 3 won't run on my computer :|

Oh yeah...some points in Resident Evil when the giant spiders fell down from the ceiling *shudders*

doom 3 has had it's moments .. but i can't remember any old ones :X

Thief III: The Cradle

*Shivers*

No other game has scared me that much.

doom3

aliens (C64) first time i played it hehe

Morrowind, at night, in the dark, with mods installed and creepies coming at you from the darkness. Or just stuck in a dungeon.

Doom3. Having surround headphones really makes the game even scarier.

I especially remember the one where all the alien creatures are stuck in the "glasstubs" in the lab. I just had to go over and look at one, and it started moving in there. I almost crapped my pants.

The game was boring, but scary as hell :)

That tube scene was great, I just knew it was gonna happen but it still made me jump, brilliant :)

Doom3 was creepy as hell. Even though you knew the monsters were coming you still got scared. And those damn spiders.....oh how I hate them, especially when your walking and you can just hear their little legs walking around and POOF they are right in front of you. *shivers*

Doom3 pretty much all the way through. I especially remember the mirror bit though, scared the shit out of me Oh and the locked door, red screen and crying babies, that scared the shit out of me to. Infact all the parts where weird shit starts happening. Also theres this one bit where you walk upto a window and a chair flies at the window smashing it :(

Farcry has its moments with the trigens on the indoor levels.

I agree with Sparta - System Shock 2 is the scariest game i've played. And, for it's time, one of the best :)

aliens v predator as the marine :/

erk

Doom III yes,

but thats really weird how OP:FLASHPOINT is quite scary sometimes,, I totally agree.

AvP2 Marine demo, all of it, those aliens running at you all over the walls and ceilings, just freaky, i ran backwards the whole way to the APC

I get to a point where i cant look back and shoot anymore so i just run shouting "oh ****, oh ****, oh ****, oh ****".

I thought System Shock 2 was scarier than Doom 3, especially with SHODAN's and The Many's voices combined with more ORIGINAL gameplay.

Hunt the Wumpus. You would hit an arrow key to go to the next chamber not expecting it to be there...then its huge mouth would eat you whole. :x

AvsP 1,2 ;(

Thief 3 - Cradle level

Doom 3 is like a teddy bears teaparty compared with that!

resident evil running down that hall for the first time and having the damn dogs jump through the window nearly making me throw my controller through the tv. grrr

For those of you who think Doom 3 is scary...go play silent hill 2 or 3 and you will faint, or die from a heart attack, or go completely insane, or have bad dreams for 2 years, or try and kill yourself with a sewing needle. The point is..if you got scared of doom 3 then silent hill will completely kill you.

That was the only FPS level in any game that freaked me out..it was so awesome..and you right..it makes doom 3 like cartoon for 3 year olds.

I could never play the Silent Hill games. I just couldn't. Hell, I got scared watching a five minute trailer for SH4. *shudder*

Doom 3 for me, too. Just started playing it a few nights ago, actually. Boring, yeah. Not so good, yeah. Scary? AH! YES! ;(

Basically..if you play the silent hill games..very few games (and movies) will scare you anymore. I recommend playing the silent hill 2 as it is the best of the series..but if you want to get terrified (bear in mind that silent hill 2 is terrifiying) Silent hill 3 will most likely get your heart racing and your adrenaline going...If you want to get scared play these games...oh..and after you beat silent hill 2 go play doom 3 and see what a wussy game that is. :)

Thief : Haunted Cathedral. Scared the pants off of me.
System Shock 2. They seeee youuuuu Runnn! Ruuunnnn!
Doom 3. Braiiiiinsssss.

I avoid these "scary" games, because I'm a wimp when it comes to that stuff.

If I had to pick, I would say the dream sequences in Max Payne. Those weirded me out.

I've only played the demo of DOOM 3, and I was more upset by the clunkiness of my character than the monsters popping out on the screen. Maybe it's a sign that scary game won't effect me after all...

Thief 3 - Cradle level
Doom 3 all the way
System Shock 2.

those three wil never leave my hard drive

Thief 3 - The Shalebridge Cradle

This level surpasses everything id ever dreamed of with the entire Doom 3.

Silent Hill 2... too many moments. Need to find SH3 for PC.

Oh and Tetris on the Gameboy. Some scary times.

Thief 3, Cradle.
I was just happily walking slowly along a corridor, turn around a corner, and suddenly theres this huge shadow on the wall! Nearly fell off my chair...then I realised it was my own shadow :( .
But I did laugh my way through Doom 3.
