Does anyone else on these forums find school incredibly dull and boring. It's the 22nd and I'm sick of it already. It's just the same old crap everyday, and they try to make it sound like school is the beginning and end of your life. Like if you don't always get 100% your going to be a failure. Does anyone else get sick of this? I'm a junior in high school now and it feels like I'm the only one who realizes high school is not very important in the grand scheme of things. It's also easy to the point of boredom. It just feels like a waste of time to me, anyone else feel like this?

I'm a junior in college and it's even worse. It feels like you've run a long race and you could see the finish line but you're so f*cking tired by now, you can't quite make it there.

Oh well .. I think I'll be to survive 2 more years. And then it's the mysterious future after college ....

yes, I'm a junior now, and although I am a very good student, I just can't stand school anymore. It just feels like I'm wasting my time there, no matter what class I'm in.

the only reason i keep coming to these forums is to see if hl2 has gone gold/been released yet...since i know i'll hear about it here for sure whereas other news sites might be late in posting.

well that...and the usually interesting off-topic chats :D

and no, high school isn't that important..except for the following:

you learn study skills there
your high school grades determine what kind of college you can go to
it tends to shape many people's ideas about social situations and how to make friends.
you start to get an idea about what you want to study in college...science/literature/whatever

other than that, the actual stuff you learn isn't all that useful...at least not the specific stuff (except math if you go into a scientific area)

the point of high school is to learn HOW to learn. many people in college still don't know how to read a textbook or take notes. they want to learn but they aren't good at it...so they don't do as well as they could even though they're intelligent

You can have a lot of fun in High School .. college is dull and depressing. Enjoy it while you can ...

In Canada, 13 year olds enter High School at Grade 8.
Would that be considered as Junior?

You'll prolly learn more when you leave school.

Everything you learn in high school (at least in california) is compleat BS. I've been in college for a month now and I've learned so much more than I ever did in high school. Also you get to see how screwed up the high school system is. It was so incredible when I started math a month ago to find out that the way they tought us to do things in high school math was sooo wrong it isnt even funny. And what took 2 years to half learn in high shcool to 2 weeks to go over and fully understand in college. But then again....isnt Californias schools like next to last compaired to all ther others in America?

I'm a junior too with a straight AP schedule.
What annoys me is how teachers end up teaching to the test, especially when there's a big test like the AP at the end of the year. It feels like I'm swallowing facts and regurgitating them on tests instead of actually learning. The best class I've ever had was geometry in 8th grade. My teacher actually gave us challenge questions and a lot of time in groups to share and discuss work so that the class could actually stimulate innovative and intelligent thinking. It seems like math in high school has become boring memorization of equations and rules that end up meaning nothing. I remember in Algebra II, somebody asked the reasoning behind a certain rule, and my teacher actually said that we were meant to learn the rules in class and not know how to prove them. English essays have become very boring; they're all a standard five-paragraph essay; everybody follows the same structure and format; your thesis sentence must be in the same specific place. And then you end up with a dull, boring, standardized essay that pleases the teachers. Education like that is making me very bored now, especially since I never really liked school in the first place.

Well for me school isn't that boring, it helps me pass the days until HL 2. The only boring class I have is typing...and I took it last year.

I love school - seriously, Im not a nerd or anything.
I just like being around my friends, playing football, and I dont mind doing a bit of maths or sceince. Our teachers make the subjects interesting so its not bad at all. We good around alot, so its pretty fun.
I just hate Geography and history. So boring and useless.
Only 3 more years till Year 12, after that Im going to Uni, then I can study what I really want, programmer, puters, etc.
My future looks bright, Im doing pretty good and Im happy

School. Ah, the nightmare. Yeah school was incredibly boring. The main thing that gets me about school is that they make you take certain classes that you know you won't need or use in life. Take biology for example. I don't need to learn how plants reproduce. Yet I was expected to take it. The only reason I flunked that was out of sheer boredom. What was the point? Thats the other thing. Homework and projects now are dumb.

Yeah, they are "supposed to give you practice. What they seem to do is make everyone just get it done. If you do a pisspoor job on the project but still get it in on time, you get a decent grade. Do a superb job and spend days and days on it and hand it in a day late, you get a zero. How that makes sense is beyond me. They should be teaching the value of hard work. Not "be late or die".

Oh wait. thats not what the discussion is about. bah. needed to get it off my shoulders anyway....:x

High school in america, is at grade 9, and you're a junior your 11th grade year.

Btw, thats not all of canada mate, I lived in toronto and highschool went from grade 9-12

So you arent even a freshman yet,
maybe a senior in middle school

I did the opposite. I worked my ass off my first 3 years and then slid by on my senior year. I graduated with a 3.8, but only HAD to take english IV and two electives my senior year. I just took a bunch of easy classes like art I and stuff. I took all of my AP classes my junior year. Senior year was the best and I didn't have to freak out when it came time to find a college who would except me because I slacked off my first two years (which was a big problem for many people). So, i recommend hitting the books hard for 3 years, and then have a year to relax, and have fun with girls (because then many of them are experienced enough to have fun with). This method worked for me, other people might have a different view. :)
