OK,

My? is

what type of screen LCD or CRT your going to play HL2 with? and what is the min or max res you would play this game with?
:cheese:

Well ive got two 17" CRT monitors both that go up to 1280*1024 so in theory my max res is 2560*1024 so i think i will try and get that working :D

If not ill just have to live with 1280*1024 which isnt a bad thing i supose :(

you know, 1280X1024 is actually not the resolution you want. Put a perfect circle on screen, and switch over to 1280x1024, and you'll see that it's squashed. 1280x1024 is actually meant for LCD screens that have a more square aspect ratio.

I have a 19" CRT, and i run at 1280x960. That gives me a nice square pixel size. do the math.

640x480

1280x960

for 1280x1024, your base resolution would have to be 640x512. Ever heard of that? I didn't think so.

I run HL on a 17" CRT at 1600x1200 with a GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGPx8

Dobut I'll be able to manage that in HL2, so I'll just run it at 1024x768

I would love to run half-life in 1600x1200 on my 19inch... but that's just dreaming... Unless I upgrade both my current CPU (XP2000+) and my video card (Asus GeForce4 ti4200 62MB)...

im gonna run it 2048x1536 but i don't think its possible with current cards, there will probably be a better card by the time hl2 comes out. so ill just buy that.

Sad but I'm stuck on 15" CRT. I had a 17" but it fried so I'm out of luck and screensize is not more important than new parts.

It's one of the reasons why I care only about 1024x768 performance since I can't go beyond that before everything gets incredibly small.

I have a 22" Flat screen NEC monitor that's being wasted by my curent video card. (GeForce 2 Ultra)

My desktop display is at 1600x1200 32 Bit.

I run my games at 1024x768

:-/

The annoying thing is, is that i know that .

Problem is im used to it now and 1280*960 looks squashed to me :D

:) As long as you know... it's just the ignorance that kills me.

Whenever you change your resolution, just think of me, running in glorious, proportional 1280x960. Besides, games run faster because they have to render 65,536 less pixels.

You probably could get used to it, if you tried.

19" Viewsonic CRT. Im gonna run HL2 at 1600x1200.

I just upgraded from a 19" to a 22" CRT; I used to play @ 1024x768 but I'll try switching to 1280x960 now, hope I can manage that with a playable framerate.

Black NEC FE991.

Its 19"
Flat Screen CRT

Min Res will likely be my desktop's res which is 1280x960, and max 1600x1200 though I'm pretty sure this monitor can go a little higher. I can't remember for sure

I would love to go to a resolution higher than 1024x768, and my video card supports it, unfortunately though it's my 17" LCD flat screen monitor restricting me...

im buying a radeon 9800 128 soon, you think ill be able to run it on 1600X1200? my PC is uber enough i think 2.53ghz

finally some one else who realizes this. i too have a 19" crt and hope to play at 1280x960

I have a black MultiSync 97F Mitsobishi 19 inch monitor, but i'm playing at 1024x768 instead with 8x FSAA. I have a problem with my computer that when I go higher than 1024x768 games stop taking up the whole screen on my monitor. I've tried different refresh rates and had no success. My monitor and video card drivers (radeon 9700pro) are up to date. :(

By the way, my current refresh rate is 85 hertz. :(

there is something called the "edit" button...use it instead of posting your refresh rate in a separate post.

I got a huge round 15" monitor, which I'm using 800*600 on.
With any luck, I'll have some money left after I buy the radeon 9700 pro, to buy a new monitor.

With any luck and a lot of spending I'll be playing on a 5' + projection from an lcd projector. 800X600 most likely since that's the native res of the projector I'm looking at.

Bahahhahahahaha.

Even though I'm buying a new computer, I'm still keeping my old monitor. I'm not sure how big my monitor is excactly, but I do know that I'll be playing HL 2 at 800X600.

If you are getting a new computer, you might want to think about dialing each part down one step [if a 3.2 processor, go with 3.0, a PRO video card, get the non-PRO] to buy a new monitor. I lost my 19 inch due to people being stupid, and boy do I miss above 1024 resolutions on this piece of shit 15 inch.

Well the computer I'm planning on getting has a 2.8GHZ processor, and a Radeon 9800 128 (non-pro). I think a 3.2 GHZ would just be a little overkill.

I'm currently saving up for the computer, so between now and when I have enough money, I can select if I wanna tack on an extra 100 for a monitor (flat screen).

:p
I bought a 19" trinitron used at a university bid sale for $80. I was going to use it with my old computer but it's better then my other 19" that I bought now for 3 times that price.

I have an NEC MultiSync 97F 19" CRT.. My current setup is AMD Athlon XP 2000+ and my video card is a ATi 9800 Pro 128Mb.
I'd like to run at 1280x1024/968.. do you think I'd be able to?

Btw.. 768Mb DDR PC2700

viewsonic A75s .........will only do 85hz in 1024x768.

17 inches of pure shit....

after i buy a new hardrive or two..ill think about getting a 22 inch CRT flatscreen

enjoy your low fps at your super high resoultions, even on the higest end computers... games like HL2, Doom3, and STALKER and the like are in a different class than current games... I don't think many people will run in 1600x res...

eh, i think the latest Doom 3 benches had the 9800 Pro running at 1600 x 1200 with 4x FSAA and 8x AF at about 15-25 fps or so

so, i think i'll be able to run Doom 3 at a standard res step down at 4x FSAA and 8x AF at a decent rate

I have dual 15" LCD displayes with a max resolution of 1024 * 768, and I'll never go below that...they've got a pretty good refresh rate for an LCD, I hardly ever notice any ghosting :afro: . I love my LCD's, everything is nice and sharp, and uber flat....hee hee hee.

geh, i hate LCDs, no matter how many i've played on, they're just not comfortable for me, i'm always adjusting them
