Can anybody give me the basics of what to do, after buying hl2 off a friend who has finished with it? Does he have to cancel his account first?

I don't think there is a way to "transfer" a purchased HL2 to another account...

IF he could "cancel" his buy, then you could just register it, and type in the CD key or whatever, on yours account.

im pretty sure you can transfare your the CD you just contact valve ask them to deregister it. they will probably ask you for proof of ownership like but it should be possible
