Seemingly rare startup problem

I try to launch CS:S, screen flickers and shows image of CT with "Loading.." at the bottom right. I get an hourglass mouse cursor for about three seconds, which returns to the default pointer cursor for about a second and with another flicker I am back at my desktop. No error message and I still retain my desktop wallpaper.

CS:S properties say I am at 100%, no updates needed and ready to play. Apparently I'm not? Anyone else experiencing such problems? Also just to clarify, I didn't participate in the beta so I don't have the files associated with it. Any ideas?

P4 2.4GHz
1024MB PC2700 DDR
GF 6800GT, latest drivers
etc etc, enough to play game.

Somebody give me a clue, I'm about to rip my face off. What is so different about my setup that prevents me from reaching the main menu.

ok it happened to me too, copy all your files over from the CSS beta folder, click yes when it asks you a question abotu overwriting (click yes to all) post a reply here if it worked (worked for me)

I don't have CSS Beta. I guess I should've bought CZ after all, lol
