seems silly, but when you look at the floor, will Gordons feet be there?

seemingly alot of games that try to achieve some realisim dont put your physical body in (one exception is 'Op Flashpoint'). and if im not mistaken part of the real world is actual seeing your own body from your perspective, instead of being just a floating pair of hands and a gun,... So in HL2 is Gordon just a pair of floating hands and a gun again? (i know it doesnt make much difference, but its niggly little things like this that make the experiance more unique, and add the sense of actually being there)

There was a whole thread about this before, and the general consensus was:

a) You won't see Gordon's feet, or any other part of his body (except his hands, and you don't even see them when you're driving the buggy).
b) Some people would like to see his body in the game.
c) Some people wouldn't, and,
d) Someone from VALVe said it would be addable in a mod (I think).

problem with seeing your own body is it can obstruct your view when looking down and because it's not RL you can't move your body into a different position so you can see properly.

You could see the body of your character in Tresspasser. I say body, I mean breasts. And this was a practical requirement as you gauged your health by the size of the heart tattoo on one of your boobs.
I really can never work out why computer gamers get such a bad reputation for being sad lonely w*nkers... <Dies>

In Tribes 2, you were able to see your body/feet, and it didn't really impact your view much at all. I liked it. Same with Op Flash.

Being a wanker isn't bad, if you clean your pipes 5 times a week, you have significantly less chance of prostatecancer.

Wow, I sounded like Discovery Channel.

OT: no you won't see his feet, the reason mrchimp gave sounded reasonable, altough having feet would be kinda cool.

When you look down you will see Gordon's walker, because he will be an old man by the time this game comes out.

Is that prostate cancer comment true? Erm... Just out of interest :naughty:
But I meant wanker in the drogatory sense. I mean, I'd still call someone a bastard, but not because there's anything wrong with your parents not being married... Nevertheless, the image certainly holds true...

It's true, your prostate makes the fluid (not the sperm cells but the fluids) you ermm... squirt out. And by making sure you 'change' the fluid often, you don't let the fluids get old and cause damage.

Well... so much for biology class. Dude I'm sick :naughty:

Wow you learn something new every day. Now I have an excuse! Not that I really needed one.

I had it turned off in Tribes 2, it's a long time scince I played it but i think it's because you could put your arms through your stomach or quite simply because I spent so much time looking down it got on my nerves.

If they had to show the feet, they'd have to take your hands off of the guns as you climb and descend ladders and show them on the ladder.

It's amazing how acceptable it is to magically climb a ladder without using your hands in FPS.

tee hee, :) maybe you use your third arm to do that. ,, :p actually thats pretty sick, funny if that was the official excuse given by valve :p to cover for there magic freeman who floats up ladders

Floating Freeman! The new action figure by Valve! In stores NOW!!!

Why not make it an option, adds to realism if you ask me. Same with an ironsights option.

isnt the ironsights the secondary fire in Call of Duty and Hidden & Dangerous 2?

Agreed. But I would want it to be an option you can turn off/on, because I really don't know if it can get annoying or add to the immersion in the game, I guess seeing is believing

yeah i understand that, but other games have implemented the body, and it has worked well. Remember Hitman? That was done well...and it had ragdoll bodies :) In Max Payne 2, someone made a first person mod, even though it wasnt perfect, it was still fun. I reckon that soon enough, people will just make the player model like any other and simply place the camera in the eyes. To true achieve realism(In the virtual world...obviously:)), you have to do something along those lines.

Wait, wasn't Hitman thirdperson-only? That's what I seem to remember.

In Hitman 2 you could press F1 i think and it switched to first-person
