Kind of weird/creepy that he did a live demonstration on stage...
 
If I could print kidneys I'd do demonstrations out in the city streets. Imagine how sad all those people would be after I rub it in their faces that I can make a dozen kidneys in a few minutes while it took them several months to do it and all they could make was two.

EDIT: Also, this is one more step to immortality. **** yeah.

Uh, I wholeheartedly disagree. I bet in 30 years artificial kidneys like this will be a common thing. I bet that in the US it will probably start showing up in hospitals in 10 years or less.

Hopefully you are right. I just know business practices by current and past generations abhor that sort of widespread universal benefit for mankind thing without huge demands for profit.

Though there are lots of contradictions to what I say when considering certain things in history, like vaccines and stuff. I chalk that kind of drive towards the good hearted people in society.

But then there'll be a black market for back street organ printers. Shady dealers printing off organs from machines unapproved by the Government for lower prices.

Hey don't joke about that. There are several people who were illegally unfrozen and just let loose without any explanation about the terrible tragedy that befell them in 2011. You know it's 2027 so don't joke around.

You forgot to tell him that Earth was destroyed in 2012 and humans moved to the nearby planet of Mars. We were able to colonize the planet and use it as a safe haven. We even met some extraterrestrial life, and they turned out to be friendly, giving us food and pleasure.

I imagine the early prototypes of printed people would be quite low in resolution and thus hideous!

That is sweet, but why do I get the feeling it's too good to be true? There's gotta be some giant draw back to this which is why it hasn't been implemented on a wide scale. The article does say the first person to get one of these was 10 years ago.
 
They're still developing the technology? It was probably highly experimental back then if they only tested it on one person.
 
Yeah, but I'm just a bit skeptical of the fact that if you do a google news search on liver print or liver TED only a small handful of results come up.

Let's hope this is something that could truly be put to use in the next few years, it would save thousands of lives each year.

Yeah. I'm kind of amazed that something this sensational hasn't spread like wild fire across the news services, which really makes me doubt it's credibility at this point in time (actual TED footage, on the www.TED.com site would help).
