So how is the customer liable for a retailers mistake? Sure, it's not Valve's fault the retailer sold early, but why punish the consumer just because he bought something he presumed he could play? A poor old fella named Roto just posted on the Steam forums, understandably furious, because he had no bloody idea about the real street date. He bought the game presuming he would be able to play it (as you do with every other f*cking game you buy) and what happens when he installs it? "Coming soon." That's crap, and you can bet your fanboy ass there will be alot more of these posts in the coming days if Valve don't get their shit together.
Edit- Try telling me now that average consumer with no knowledge of this whole bullshit fiasco won't end up with copies of HL2.

Let's face it, if Valve doesn't want a massive backlash from pissed off people, they need to unlock the game, even if it's only for retail buyers. I'm not saying this for my own sake (I'm a Steam purchaser as a matter of fact) but they need to do this to avoid some damn hot water. Yeah, it's not Valve's fault all this has happened, but they can't punish the consumer.
