Just a thought because im confused about the whole freeman\gman relationship. i know he's as shady as hell but is he a bad guy? obviously not if he's got gordy workin for him, but, whats the story? where does it fit in the whole "skulking through black mesa\government\world enslavery" deal??

Just 'cause he's got Gordon working for him doesn't mean he's a good guy. Perhaps he is misleading Freeman. He didn't exactly give him a choice, y'know.

Some say he came from the future, this is possible, because he may have come to change it. (in half-life maybe the other duded that died were choices he went back into the past toi change?)

Personally I disagree, he seems to be evaluating you for some reason, as he did many others. Maybe he is part of a secret organization ans something HUGE is about to happen.

but what? wheres gord been for the past 10 years? man valves good at keeping their secrets

I thought at the end of halflife if you took the job you got a shot of sodium pentathol?

LOL - sodium pentathol is a truth serum :)

well why dont we all stop scepticising and wait for the game to come out...........
then we'll see if we can truly scalp the "G-man"
if that is his real name............

remember hes working for the g man because he made it an offer he cant refuse

true. i have an itchy trigger finger. i finished hl again this morning, kind of a pre hl2 warmup which im sure im not the only one doing. got me thinking again

Didn't you guys find it kinda weird that at the end of HL1 you and the G-Man were warping and all that. And the G-Man dosen't even think it's weird or anything? He has something to do with all the mess that happened at Black Mesa. He was always one step ahead of you. When you went to the way he went an enemy would be there. Don't you find it weird that the aliens didn't even try to attack him?

We will probably only find out who the G-Man is in HL3. (G)ordon Free(man) seems to be a hint.

If you look in a dictionary you will see that G-Man means Government Man. I really doubt that the G-Man is Gordon. But you could be right.

As I said in a previous post: I think the Gman has placed you in City 17 to help him beat the Combine to achieve his ultimate goal, what that is we will learn in the end of HL2, Gabe has said that you will learn much more of the Gman's motives in HL2. I think he has chosen Gordon because he can carry out the Gman's wishes to the fullest, Gordon is the best of the best you might say not only is he extremely intelligent but he is an extremely effective killing machine when stacked asgainst Marines, aliens, and trans dimensional creatures. At least that's what i think about the reasons behind the whole purpose of Gordon being in City 17.

What his goal is I have no idea but it might have something to do with the Gman being somesort of Extra-Dimensional creature, possbily higher than Dr.Breen and overseeing the joining of possibly the Xen and Earth Dimensions. He did not forsee the Combine invasion and when they came he, in the shadows, made it so the Combine would rule over a certain portion of Earth/Xen but not all of it, a kind of pact you might say. The Combine have decided to overstep their boundaries and thus they must be stopped, who do you bring in? Why the man who you thought best qualified, Gordon Freeman, the man who began the Xen Earth formation and the one who can save it. Now if this is true i have no ideam its just my thoughts on the possibilities of the HL universe.

heh heh you said thang
frickin wait for the game stoopid :dozey:

I think when you were in HL1 and you went to xen, thats were the time passed (10-15 years) and you dont know it when you are on the tram at the end.

Just before you go to xen and you load up with guns, barney says there might not be much for you to come home to, mabye it means this whole "earth picked to the bone" thing.

Actually, Barney says if you don't SUCCEED, there probably won't be much to come back to. Besides, how would Barney know the future?

No i mean mabye the story writers acted upon that line to make it mean something, i'm not saying he knows the future.

Gordon being the G-man from the future seems likely, (this is gonna sound stupid) but couldn't he be a future form of Shephard? The G-man did say that Shephard reminded him of himself, and the G-man bumped Shephard up the special training list. Perhaps there is more going on?

The gman is gordons father.

The gman is a figment of gordons imagination.

The gman is homosexual.

theres my options. :upstare:

No one knows. HL3 will shed some light on it, HL2 won't.

The gman is a schizophrenic manifestation triggered by a prolonged exposure to hazardous materials. That's why he's seemingly impervious to our bullets.

Kinda like smeagol and gollum, or jekyll and hyde.

Hehe well it's not THAT far fetched :D.

Its Gordon from the future.

THE G-MAN IS NOT GORDON FROM THE FUTURE!!!!

That would be such a cheesy storyline!!!!

I only finished HL recently, and cba'ed to play opp force, blue shift etc, who is shepherd and all this malarky?

Corporal Shepard is a grunt that who you play as in Opposing Force.

It's actually quite a good expansion and it also shows what happened to Black Mesa after Gordon went to Xen.. I suggest you play through it.

Hmm G-Man is definately a bit of engima.....is he a good guy or Bad?

I like to believe hes a bit of both, just like the Smoking Man out of the X-Files. (Valve even sort of admit G-Man is more or less Smoking Man in the php game....)

He arranges the 'cover-up' of the disaster at Black Mesa, the killing of the Scientists and the final Nuking in Op-For. However I don' see this as real 'evil' per se....he was just doing his job of covering up the Black Mesa Disaster for the Goverment. If difficult to say if he had any say in the Experiments done at Black Mesa, but according to the Scientists it was the Administrator pushing for the Experiment that caused the disaster, not G-man. I believe he was a sorta trouble shooter for the Goverment....there to sort things out and to clear up the mess if anything went wrong.

He isnt evil per se, he gives Gordon a choice - join him or Death (pretty crappy choice I admit), and often give Gordon the 'chance' to live when he could kill him (ie when Gordon is captured by Marines, he could have just had him shot).

He also directly save Alan Shepard....in the room where it fills up with Radioactives Sludge he unlocks the door and saves Alans life....even though he did lock it.

I can't see G-Man as Gordon in the future...G Man has no morals and is quite happy to kill or let people die just to cover up the incident...I cant see Gordon changing this much. After all this is just a Lab Assistant he ends up risking his life to save the world and his colleagues whcih is a pretty selfless act.

Whoever (or Whatever) G-Man is, its gonna be an interesting story Im sure!

After reading this thread through, I reckon some of you guys need to get real. This isn't a cheesy B-film plot.
