Unless you didnt notice, Israel is part of the EU. And that country is nowhere near europe, and it has heaps of islamic extremists and human rights violations. The EU isnt accepting turkey into their union because of these factors. It's accepting turkey most likely due to the reasons grey fox stated, and pressure from the united states and saudi arabia.

Turkey hasn't apologised for his history of genocide on armenians etc, so until it sorts its act out it won't be in, but i'm pretty sure the issue will be forced and Turkey will get into the EU eventually, its a muslim based country, with european links, the perfect bridge for the west and the middle east, especially with the problems we have with terrorism etc in this modern day world. It believe it would be beneficial for the west to have Turkey along side them to show how co-existance is possible. But if that isn't achieved Turkey will be just be a highway into Europe for extremists. Two sides to the coin sadly

I beleve that turkey should be allowed to join the EU after cirtain critria have been met. Like cleaning up their act with human rights and the armenen genocide and also have adopted a good democracy. Obviosly common sense should be used too, I mean if they're 'good' democracy votes in a bunch of religous loonies it could be considered to be not such a great idea to let them in.

As for Isreal they're not (as many people have already said) in the EU and I think that it is very unlikly that they will be joining any time soon. But that's America, and America is not in the EU, so it doesn't get a say whether Turkey gets in. America is keen on Turkey getting in however, maybe because it will gain some leverage against the EU due to certain factors, amongst other things.

The EU doesn't do executions at all, and Turkey would have to comply with that as well as all the necessary conditions to gain entry. If they can comply to all our conditions, then sure they can be in the EU. It'll be a lot of work for them though.

Im really not racist but I dont want Turkey in EU. Its very different culture and big, poor country. They doesnt care about human rights (for example - woman, Kurdish minority...). And it could be risk of advance menace of terrorism in Europe.
Croatia in EU is better choice.
