Signature images & custom titles?

First of all, sorry if this has already been mentioned anywhere; I checked the FAQ and looked through a few stickies but didn't manage to find anything, so...

I realize that you guys probably want to save bandwidth by preventing images from being displayed in signatures and all, but it doesn't make too much of a difference as long as you provide limitations on all signature limits (And enforce these limits via moderation).

And no custom titles? They barely take up any bandwidth, and I know they're available in vB forums.

i think the problem with custom titles is:

1) if you get the mods to do it for you.. thats 40,000 titles to do :x

2) if people do it themselves... then we get multiple site admins and munros

and signatures look really bad imo... perhaps we could just have them in our profiles.. but otherwise they just mess up threads

We don't want custom titles. We're quite happy with the HL2-themed titles. With this being, you know, a HL2 site and all.

Signature images = no, no, NO. You can only automate the moderation of them up to a point (filesize, dimensions) after which it becomes a nightmare. Plus they all look awful.

Yeah, it's been discussed many times.

Signature images firstly look poop, secondly it'd increase the load on the server and thirdly they look poop.

Custom titles aren't really required.

Ok, ok.. I'm new here, and I was just asking.

I guess in a way not having signatures is kind of nice.. since not having them puts more emphasis on the actual posts.. but they're still nice..

And saying they all look awful is obviously a hasty generalization. Take a look at this gorgeous (Although somewhat amateur) signature I made for myself:

One of the forums I used to go to had practically no rules on pictures in your signature, therefore you could put a 800x600 animated GIF that's 2mb in filesize in your signature and the mods wouldn't care. This kind of thing was the norm, even mods would have massive images in their sig. Even small ones annoy me now... they stretch the page out and just look shitty.

That's why you have good moderators who place restrictions on signatures.. it's not hard to find a good person or two to make sure that people don't surpass the limit. Another forum I go too allows signature images, and they give out warnings to people who don't listen to the rules. If they keep it up, they get banned.

I still think it's a good idea. Not totally necessary, but it would take away some of the forum's... blandness.

Speaking of which, this forum could use more skins ^_^;.

Basically it's not going to happen.

Forums are for reading information, not looking at someones huge image sig every other post. It breaks up the flow of the forum, makes people have to scroll further to see posts, and makes pages take longer to load for people on slower connections.

So far I haven't seen one good argument in favour of having them

I say we do away with signatures altogether, give everyone the same avatar, and assign a number system instead of user names. CONFORM CONFORM CONFORM!
