Ubisoft has announced the next chapter in the Silent Hunter subsim series: Silent Hunter IV Pacific Campaign. According to SubSim.com the release is slated for early next year.

I am guessing from the title we will be fighting the Nip menace this time around. So no more kaleun, but skipper from now on! Really looking forward to this one.

I played a lot of SHIII, and so did others on this forum. Check this thread for more info. It can be bought for around 20 euro's / dollars now and that's a bargain for such a good sim.

I've played all SHs, and so far my favourite is SH1, seeing as it's also the pacific, I really hope that SH4 allows you to
1. Play through the campaign as the japanese.
2. Change the outcome of the war, i.e. if you do well enough as the japanese Japan wins the war.

Wow, that's nice. Looking forward to it.

I decided to re-install SHIII again. It's been ages since I played it. This kaleun is gonna hunt for Tommies!

yeah thanks to this forum i got that gem of a game sh3, great fun with it...

Yeah SH3 was great, i found the expansion for it on play.com....and its really just a glorified patch, things added to the game that should have been in anyway, like proper city defences and ship moorings.

Still, cant wait for this one... although im not sure if it'll feel exactly the same as the last game, it might aswell be a proper expansion.

Yeah, I read about this. Isn't this the expansion where Ubi ripped all the good parts from different mods and claimed them as their own? I would check on the SubSim-boards to verify but they seem to be down.

*BUMP*

This quote is from the SubSim.com newsletter I received today:

Finally, you may be getting another Subsim Newsletter soon. We are holding our breath, expecting breakthrough Silent Hunter IV news. Stay at radio depth.

Lets hope for some proper screens! Can't wait for this game. It's gonna be the Pacific campaign this time around, but it's not sure if you can play on both sides. It would be great to be the captain of one of those seaplane carrying Japanese subs.

I was close to shitting my pants when I saw the thread Silent Hill V but crap, wasnt :(

Awesome vid! It seems this Silent Hunter will focus more on attacking warships.

I hope the online component is better this time around. I'd love to patrol the Pacific with a HL2.net wolfpack.

Sweet jesus, how did SH3 slip under my radar?...(lawl, I made a funny! D: )

It's only $20?... Oh snap, I'm not much for sim games, but this looks really fun.

omg buyIT!!!!!!!!!!!!it pwns, the mod scene is huge and you can tweak the gameplay settings between highly realistic(no time compression etc) to fairly arcade style, a great game...

Graphics looks updated. It still got the sexy water, gotta love it. :)

Just bought the game, last copy at Best Buy...
And as I was installing it decided to install Starforce along with it...

Please tell me there's a patch out there that removes it? D:

I've yet to play it yet, reading the manual... which is shockingly rather uninformative on how the game actually works.

I've read some reviews, and they mention that the tutorials in the game don't really show how to play the game that well?
Seeing as I rarely ever play sims, and have never played a subsim before, would you say this game has a pick-up and play feel to it?

Post some screenies of your actions. Try and sink a frigate or a cruiser and see if you can survive. Also look for convoys. It's great fun to stalk and pick out your kills. Watch out for the escorts though. Entering and exiting Scapa Flow without being seen is also cool.

Son of a bitch, Star Force wasn't removed...

My computer's already getting ****ed over.

I was just playing the game, and all of a sudden my sound started getting distorted and crackly, and the computer restarted. :|

Borat on SH IV

Didn't get around to watching it until tonight: 1st dev journal for SHIV. That battleship looks vicious. Really looking forward to taking to the high seas again. Let's hope the multiplayer is better this time around.

Don't mean to put a downer on the thread but there's still no enemy subs. Which is hugely needed and would make the game perfect. Still looking forward to the sequel though but if they haven't changed the game enough, i might aswell stick with the one i have.

Indeed.. Besides, I'm getting a bit fed up off the WW2 theatre, something that would be INCREDIBLY sweet would be a modern-day 'remake' off Red Storm Rising.:)

Yeah, that would be awesome. I could think of some really cool Cold War scenario's.

Time for an update. Some news from the last couple of weeks.

Gamespot has a preview with over 6 minutes of in-game footage. Great stuff. The water looks even better this time around.

IGN has more in depth preview. The campaign has stayed dynamic but it seems to have different kinds of missions. A good thing if you ask me, because the 'Patrol sector XYZ for 24 hours' got a bit boring in the end with SH3.

The release is planned for the end of march.

Never did get my head around firing solutions. Damn my stupidity.
