Pretty good movie, but my only gripe is that all main characters speak Japanese to each other but speak English to the English-speaking civilians. Is this a Japanese enclave in America or something?

No, not really

Sky Crawlers is more philosophical (of course that is loosely said) instead of focusing on a linear plot.

My favorite thing is the big "realization" in the movie, and of course how it ends in a very non traditional fashion.

When I hear Philosophical with anime, my blood turns cold, but i will give it a shot if i can find it to rent
