Slow Heavy Metal songs

I Am Chromosome is the best melodic metal song ever. Seething and dark and twisted and brilliant. I urge you to experience it for yourself.

Forget all this shitty Metallica shit.

Dream Theater;

Misunderstood
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Octavarium
A Change of Seasons
The Ministry of Lost Souls
Good call.

More DT (if that's your thing):

Pull Me Under
The Mirror
Metropolis Pt. 1 (doesn't fit the category as well as the others, but... well, I can't not recommend it, it's so damn awesome :D)
And pretty much anything from the album Train of Thought

Also, this! -

I love the cheesy lyrics on that song. The instrumental part is the best.

Yeah, the new album is big on the cheese. It's all monsters and horrible ghouls and reaping souls and such... good stuff. :P

"Dark Master...". God, I love ITPOTE soo much. It really is great song which does the metal genre some good.

Haha, that line made me cringe. :p

I love that track though, it is one of their best in my opinion.

Same lol, very funny though, especially on the bit about power chords lool.

Heh, cool.

People here actually know of Type O Negative's existence! :D
Great band, terrible live.

Um, check out Fear Factory's Transgression album, it's a bit 'slower'/'lighter' than their other albums.

You probably won't like any metal bands I list because it's obvious you don't want to like metal.

Devin Townsend, Angra, Agalloch, (some) Dream Theater, Opeth, Orphaned Land, Pain of Salvation, etc. I just recently got into metal, so there's countless other bands that I can't really speak for..

Yeah, you really don't have a clue... :p
Okay, you know, misstate what I said, that's cool and not at all annoying.

I've been gone for like two days, I'm gonna listen to all the songs linked here so far.

Apologies for the double post. Here are my thoughts on the songs that were posted. If I come off as dismissive, it's because I'm trying to give an overview of my thoughts, and not write two paragraphs for every song.

MutantBeef
Dream Theater - Metropolis --- This song was decent until about 8 minutes in.
Dream Theater - Under a Glass Moon --- Sounds like early 90's video game music.
Dream Theater - Innocence Faded --- Pretty meh overall.
Dream Theater - Raise the Knife --- Better than the others. It's less prog-for-the-sake-of-being-prog, except for the instrumental section in the middle.
Dream Theater - Another Won --- Half of it sounds like more 90's game music. The other half is, again, kind of uninteresting.
Dream Theater - About to Crash --- Nice piano intro. A LOT better than the other songs. After about the halfway point it goes downhill.

Overall, they're too self-indulgently progressive, and I can't really take the lyrics seriously. Technically impressive (maybe not the live vocals :p), but musically and lyrically boring, I guess.

StardogChampion
Danzig - Mother --- I like this way more than Dream Theater. It's a little dated, but it's a really good song.
Type O Negative - Black No 1 --- Can't take it seriously. The atonal keyboard in the background made me lawl.
Metallica - Welcome home (Sanitarium) --- It's an alright song. Aside from the superfast soloing, it's pretty good musically, if not particularly gripping.
Heavy Metal Darkness - Pain Pain Pain --- ****ING RICKROLLED AGAIN, YOU ARE A BASTARD AND I CURSE YOUR NAME WITH A MIGHTY VENGEANCE

Space Farm
Kyuss - Gardenia --- Pretty straighforward and rockin' (shut up that word is still cool). Vocals are decent. Sounds like it doesn't change enough for a 7-minute song, but somehow it works. And oh lawd is that Josh Homme on lead guitar? :D
Kyuss - One Inch Man --- Again, straightforward and interesting rock.
Melvins - Boris --- Way too slow and way too much sludge (is that the right term?) for my tastes.

Aspe
I Am Chromosome --- undefined download link D:

Bad^Hat
Dream Theater - The Dark Eternal Night --- Big fat "meh", to be honest :p

----------

So there you have it.

Not big into metal. I love rock though. Especially when the vocals just cut out and all you can hear is that guitar going on. Someone like Slash from GnR going off with a guitar solo. Sex to the ears.

It's a shame that GnR's front man is a complete toss-pot.

You simply can't like that song. :(

So there you have it.

It's good to see you took the time to listen to all that music!

As for your question, yes, that's Josh Homme. Before Queens of the Stone Age there was Kyuss.

Type O Negative - Black No 1 --- Can't take it seriously. The atonal keyboard in the background made me lawl.
You're not supposed to take it seriously. Some of the lyrics are "Lily Munster ain't got nothing on you". Lily Munster was in that lame tv show the Munsters. They called their greatest hits "The Least Worst Of".

I like it you fool. :P

Oh, sorry! Not sure what the problem is there.

This should work. Right-click, save target as.
I don't like the lyrics, vocals, or piano, but the other instrumentals are pretty good, and the "reflect, reflect" part is awesome.

The Munsters was awesome! D:

Heh, oh well. You're right about the lyrics; they're very weak. Nearly everybody I know who has heard that song has found his voice difficult, as well. I think it's a brilliant track, though.

Stig - um, thanks for the opinions, I guess. Would've been easier to swallow if you'd have just said "I don't like Dream Theater".

Tbh, the self-indulgent prog instrumentals are what most people like about them, myself included :P

I was just trying to show that I did indeed listen to all the songs :p

In that case, "I listened to all those songs and I still don't like Dream Theater." :P

Seriously, not trying to devalue your opinion, but DT are really one of those bands you either love or hate. I just get tired of people going on about how wanky and pretentious the solos are when that's the very thing I love about them :E

Trying to sway someone's opinion is like pissing in an ocean of piss.

AN OCEAN OF PISS

shift, is it possible for you to come into a music discussion without mentioning hendrix!?

and this is coming from a huge hendrix fan!! :dork:

Apocolitica - Oh Holy Night
Black Lable - Last Goodbye

In Flames have some good slower metal songs, don't ask me to name them 'cos i can't be bothered going through their back-catalogue to find them all =/

Pantera have some, but they generally end up being fast

Firewind have some really good slow songs :D

Couple of Machine Head songs are slow-ish

Scandinavian bands generally do a large amount of slow metal stuff
