I'ver not gotten far only a few minutes but at that door where the glass broke there was a creepy red wisp thing and then a picutre of a dead guy flashed across my screen

IT'S ****IN' CREEPY MAN

Creepy/scary things have never been a strong suit

/shiver

It's creepy for the first few levels, after a while it seems to be predictable as to when something creepy is going to happen. Although still, a few moments catch me by surprise, like when I went to slide down the ladder and the girl is standing right there, and when I slide down the man is standing right there.

Overall though, the ghosts things that I've seen from playing over my friends, the ones that can actually harm you, those scare me.

Ahh, I wish I could go back and play through that game as if it were my first time again. There were times that I was so hesitant to proceed in the game because of my fright that I'd have to hop onto Ventrilo with some friends and talk with them while playing to relieve me of some stress. Condemned is another title that is just as scary, if not scarier. Actually, I think it is scarier. Almost all of the combat is melee-based, so you're always fighting up close and personal with these creepy people, and some of the levels are ****ing terrifying, with the worse being this abandoned multi-level, many-room abandoned (or so it appears :p) house.

Enjoy, and then get hyped for Project Origin! :D

D'oh! Way to spoil the experience for the man ZT! :/

I'll never forget that moment, it has scarred me for life. You just want to get away from her, then you get the 1-2 punch at the bottom. You're not playing a game, they're playing with you!

FEAR wasn't a bad game, I just think it was a bit overrated.
Also, it wasn't very scary for me.

^This.

Then again, no horror movie ever scared me either. I guess I don't believe in ghosts enough to feel the scare like some people do.

FEAR's gunplay however, was some of the best I've ever experienced.

I purposely only played FEAR with the lights off in my room at night, that made it a lot creepier :)

I also 2nd the gunplay being awesome - AI was solid too.

i actually just finished this a few days ago and i must say, after hearing quite a bit of malice directed towards this product i was presently surprised.

first off, this game has some of the coolest guns i've ever seen. they all feel really powerful and they're all fun to use. and although bullet time is an old hat, it feels fresh and fun here.

and oh god tha AI are smart; their were multible times they rocked my world and acted smart and realistic.

the enviroments got stale after about. . .oh the 23094823049th office complex.

and as for scares, they held up the whole way for me.. . .

towards the beginning i told myself "okay, the whole make you jump thing will lose it's effect on me. . ."

and then Alma comes ambling down a vent towards me and i about peed myself.

Actually, that's what's funny to me.
I've only played one game that's scared me good, but I'm a complete pussy when it comes to horror movies.
Word up to your comment about the gunplay. That was what made the game - the bolt rifle (pin them to the ceiling!) and slowmo made the game for me.

Also, now that I remember, I was a little freaked out in FEAR when you climb down the ladder and Alma appears right in front of you.

I admittedly jumped a few times too in scenes like these, but that's more akin to being "startled" when someone sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
Not the same as being, "truly frightened due to paranormal spooks/convincing production values" imo.

I guess it's because I've seen it all when it comes to horror titles, (Silent Hill anyone?) and have already seen all the associated cliche's from most horror games and movies.
Plus, I got the impression that Alma was ripped directly from that little girl from the movie, "The Ring".

It's almost impossible for a game/movie to truly scare me.

Movies like, "Fun with Dick & Jane" scare me more tbh. Utter and complete failure is what frightens me.

I enjoyed F.E.A.R. quite a bit, the soldiers were fun to fight, sow ere the giant robots, but the moment I saw the flying ones I was like "How'd sentinels fly all the way from Halo?"

As for Alma, ironically she was more scary when she couldn't harm you, it was only
at the end when she was instantkill that I got really annoyed. I think I died 10 times to her before managing to fire that pistol fast enough.

My favorite part was when you take control of the turrets, it's just hilarious.

The only thing that really had me scared was all the 'jumpy bits' but as someone has said you start learning when they're going to happen, they get a bit predictable.

Like a few other people said, the only part that scared me was when I climbed up a ladder and look up, she was right in my ****ing face. WOW. Yes, Hello.

Theres one scene that had me, literally for the first time in a game, scream out loud and physically jump out of my seat;

Its a scene where she comes crawling at you in the vents, you only see her for like a second or two, but shes crawling really fast and on all fours...GOD DAMN IT that scared the crap out of me.

The game was 'awesome' for the first couple hours, then the repetition reduced that to 'good but repetitive' and finally 'meh'. As in, the only reason I beat it wasn't because the game pulling me in but rather because I was so close to it. In fact, my emotions for this game was basically like when I first played Far Cry.

Problem with Alma was, once I realized that she never actually hurts, I failed to give a shit.

I fall into the "shit pants as i climb down ladder" crowd.

this is the kind of game that i play while someone else is watching or vice-versa. all the scary parts become funny.

I found the expansion Extraction Point scarier.

First 2 games were great. Didn't get as interested over Perseus Mandate though. It's all just the same thing. Nothing new.

FEAR never scared me, no not even the ladder scene. But I got to admit that I did get a bit freaked in Extraction Point when they decided to kill off a character in the most violent and brutal way possible. The only time I felt a bit uneasy.

Anyway, I liked both EP and PM even though the story wont mean a shit in Project Origin.

FEAR scared the dick out of me so many times. It wasn't scary like Doom 3 "BOO HIO!!" scary..but scary like "Oh dear god, that little girl is starting to creep the fkn shit out of me" scary.

FEAR is the only game to scare me. Doom 3 for me was pathetic and i was laughing at it's pitiful attempts to scare me. FEAR on the other hand had me in a shivering wreak after playing it with the lights off.

F.E.A.R. and condemned are the only games that have scared me. F.E.A.R. isn't as scary as condemned I think but it certainly has it's moments.

Agreed. Bioshock had its moments (especially that whole theater/opera area), but Condemned really takes the cake.

There is at least one point in the game when she can though, which is lame, because there's nothing really indicating that you have to act.

Bioshock creepy? It had a couple of well-done 'boo' scares, but I didn't find any of it creepy.

That fat guy is really pissing me off now, I hope he gets whats coming to him.

Ha, I actually lol'd at that vid. It's probably fake but it's still funny as balls.

Okay, so I beat this game today, and I cannot say I am greatly impressed. It's very, very, repetitive.

After that I started playing Extraction Point and thought it was really cool at first, being in the street with all these soldiers, but then-
Fettle returns? I was very :| At this moment. Started playing a bit more and then I was like, okay, no, I am tired of this.

Anyways, the thing that really scared me in the game were the ghosts you had to fight at the end. They really creeped me out.

I kind of didn't understand the full story because the guy's voice on the laptops was often muffled over by machinery in the area of the game.
The game had some pretty damn cool parts/aspects to it, but unfortunately it did not outweigh the repetitiveness of the game.
I'll probably play around with it a bit more and then sell it to the computer shop down the street since they buy used computer games.

Do you not agree that the gunplay was pretty awesome though? I think the repetitive complaints are virtually unanimous at this point (even though it didn't bother me all that much while playing).

Also, don't relate any of the expansions to the actual game. From what I understand their stories and everything are completely moot, as the games weren't designed by Monolith...I think. Or at least one of them wasn't. I don't know, haha.

Repetitive but awesome in parts. Especially the last 2 hours or so.

The last two hours were pretty cool, going through that lab or whatever it's called. I also really liked when those frog-like invisible dudes would take you by surprise at moments.

The thing that bothered me is they took the regular clone soldiers and gave them like, 5 different helmet types. What was the point of that? It seemed like they were to lazy to design new soldiers so they only designed new helmets for them, that was kind of pointless. With the exception of the soldiers at the end, the elite ones with that canon gun, I liked those guys.

So are we the same character in Project Origin?
