So lets get this 100% clear.

I've looked but I can't find it, sorry. I assure you I didn't just make it up tho!! ;)

Well I cant find it either, But I hope the beta comes soon because im sooo antsy to try out source!!

If you have ever seen a bink you have already tried out the source, maybe you mean the physics....

Anyways, I want HL2, not a revamped version of the #1 reason why I don't play MP on HL anymore.

what if hl2 gets released the same day CS:Source goes to beta?

Meh i work in an internet cafe so i should get my chance to give CS:S a go :afro:

Not gonna happen. They will be released at the same time unless something drastic happens to delay a particular project, which is extremely unlikely given how far they are into the process. The beta will throw up any unseen bugs which hopefully won't happen.

I think the beta will be longer then they suspect.. valve sometimes underestimates the amount of bugs that are found and how long they take to fix (dod cough) ... so I have the feeling the beta period may be extended.. so at this point who really knows...

This i dont understand. They keep delaying because of bugs, and yet they have created a system where bugfixes can be instantly downloaded to a persons machine.

Release. The. ****ing. Game.

I'm not really sure, I hope those who play it will be a little more mature than the current CS community. :(

Somewhere on the steam website (again no link but there is one in the CS:S forum if you look), the Beta goes on for 2 weeks only regardless of whatever bugs there are and it finishes completely. Once it is over, you cant play it again until the game is released.

The amount of bugs doesn't effect the length of the beta trial but how long afterwards it takes to fix it. It doesn't keep going till no-one has anything to moan about or we'll be here till Summer 2014.

I expect the beta to go on for atleast one month. I don't expect it to go any longer then two months...unless the number of bugs are insane. 200,000+ people beta testing though...we'll see...

People who get access to CS:S it will zip the file up and put it out on the internet, so everyone will be playing it right up untill release.

Even if its not on servers, just running around by yourself or on LANs.

It's the sad truth.

I didn't read ALL the posts in this thread, I'm lazy. But anyway, I think CS:S is a good way to check the netcode and the source engine in multiplayer environment since CS is a popular game and everybody would like to get their hands on it (I know I would).
as for warez versions, yeah that's inavitable (typo?).
And valve could simply solve it by letting legal owners of an HL copy to get CS:S.

Too bad this is CS were talking about, and every one of the 11 year old "l33ts" will email a list of 1000 things to change. If anything, this will probably push HL2 even further because they will be dealing with things like "omg get rid of the shield!".

See there is a wonderful part to this, if you ask most kids under 16 or so, they usually have shitty pc's with shitty graphic cards. So thus they will quit playing when they can't run it at "100fps" ;)

Ummmm you can pass around the zip file but that won't help, I've tried with my CZ copy and my cuz's steam, its attached to the account, so it will be able to tell who can play it and who can't.

not only <16, my friend is 17 y/o and when he comes over, he turns on CS right up, and my comp isn't that good: 1.3GHz, Radeon 9600pro 512MB of RDRam, tho CS as we know it now doesn't need an uber comp, but from some reason it works on low fps on my comp. anyway, he turns on cs and plays, then he gets killed and goes like: "WTF OMG NOT EVEN 100FPS, HOW CAN YOU PLAY LIKE THAT???" and then I simply reply: "get a life" ^^

Well I am actually looking forward to CS:S a bit more than HL MP just because CS is what got me into online gaming. I'll have to find a friend that owns CZ and jack his CD key :D

Except for the fact that Valve promised that HL2 and all Source conversions would be realeased at the same time. Kind of puts a damper on the whole Summer thing huh? I lose interest every day. Every single day that I don't have HL2, I lose a small amount of interest.

OH and by the way, I'm not mad at Valve.. We've all waited a year and it's getting frustrating. I just want the game now. I have a lot of respect for Valve, but you know...we are all tired of waiting.
Amen! That chart describes exactly how I feel about Half-Life 2. Valve ****ed up. They'd have gotten alot more money releasing it with a higher price at september 2003, than releasing it at a lower price in august. I am sure it will be a lower price than intended, due to loss of interest.

Or maybe this increases anticipation?

See now the problem with that would be that the game wasn't even finished back then :p

Obviously you cant play online with it....but you could copy the steam file and paste it into your steam directory.

Is this right? I mean when i recently formatted my computer, i just copyed my steam folder then pasted it back after the format, because i didnt want to download a gig of content again.

you need to crack your steam account on the steam main server to get a free version of Cz ;)

You speak absolute rubbish my friend. That's not how business works. HL2 will sell by the bucket load once it comes out because of its prestige in the gaming community and everything it can boast to the new comers as well. As such, Valve could charge top dollar for it and it will still sell the same amount.

Yeah, its the main servers that auth the accounts to have the games and what not.

Valve ****ed up??? Ummm how, they are making a highly anticipated game, you can't **** that up.

You assume that they will have to sell at a lower price, a year ago pre-orders for it where about $50, still the same, and it will stay there due to people WILL pay.

Maybe you're the only one that lost interest but other people on this forums haven't.

I didnt think that the CS beta and your copy of CZ are linked in anyway.

I was under the impression that anyone who had purchased a copy of CZ and authorized it on steam would get the option to download the CS beta, meaning somone could just grab the files for CS:S then put them out on the internet.

CS:S beta will require Steam to run. And a cdkey, no doubt. I don't see how you think this will happen.

Cant you start a LAN game of CS witout being connected to the internet?

Not without the aid of Steam.. Steam offline would probably work, but, you'd have to verify the cache files before you can use it offline

BTW, where did anyone read this "two weeks" thing? I'd like to know.. I haven't seen this anywhere

Edit:
The most interesting information in today’s exhibition is that the beta-testing of CS:S is approaching soon. Joon-Kyung Shin, from Stylenetwork, stated that "After two weeks, valve will open the surprising beta test of CS:S to the public.", adding "the beta testing will be over two-week after it begins."

im guessing they will have us test cs-s untill they get hl2 gold by the end of july. then in august we hear the hl2 release date :p im guessing august 15th...

How come? Im just trying to understand how steam works generally. I have a version of counterstrike on steam at home. I havent updated it for a while. Cant i just go home now unplug my modem and start a lan game?

I mean when i copyed my steam folder over to my new HDD, all the games were already there. Couldnt i have just started up a LAN game. So wouldnt i just be able to download the CS beta (that somone zipped), then start up a LAN game?

Hmmm.. it might work if you had all the folder structure, but if you had the cache file alone, it'd have to verify it.

I guess though, you could start Steam in offline mode and play it on a LAN. Unless, of course, VALVe disables offline mode for the CS:S beta

They've been warned....
