I dont think we've had one of these threads in a long time and I'm bored.

At the moment I'm reading 1984 by George Orwell. Its gotta be one of the better books I've read. Really fascinating. Communists?

So this is the book that Half Life 2 supposedly took from.. I can see the similarities but I havent read in far enough yet....

1984 is like the best book ever. :D

It's against totalitarianism in general btw, not just Communism.

pfft reading is for noobs
;( actually i never read any more beyond uni text books
but 1984 is the last novel i read and it is my second favourite book after the godlike A Clockwork Orange :O

The Laserman, a book about Sweden in the early 90's. It talks about a racist that used a sniper rifle with a red laser guide to take down immigrants.

terry goodkind, the stone of tears. If you're bored and like fantasy, these books ae great.

And I'm having a lil' stroll down memory lane, reading Storm by Don Lawrence

1984 was great. But that was not totallitarianism. It was... something else...

And, of course, Physics (II) by the ministry of education. Great read, physics is really fun.

Berlin Noir.

Yes it was. 1984 is a criticism of you and everything you stand for!

Finally decided to pick up some Michael Crichton books.
Jurassic Park... Lost World... and Timeline.

Just finishing up Jurassic Park, Man, the movie would've been so much better with all these scenes in it... It'd probably be rated R too.

collaboration, safety, prosperity, and the continued advancement of the human race?

The only way to advance the human race is HUMAN INSTRUMENTALITY!!!!!

*twitches*

Anyway, I'm reading Going Postal by Terry Pratchett, again.

1984 was an awesome book. Read Brave New World by Huxley, too.

I am reading Pride and Prejudice right now. I just finished Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.

And Muldoon survives in the book :D
I like Crichton, Timeline's a fun book too.

My mum buys me Pratchett books for Xmas, like a tradition. I read Thud a few weeks back.

As for stuff I've read of my own accord - lately it's just manga in Japanese. I was recently blown away by one called Basilisk, which is a short series about ninja and it's kind of like what you might get if you crossed Ninja Scroll with Naruto, with none of the shitness of either one of those. There are some scanlations floating around the net but they are ABYSMAL. I also hear it's going to be released in the west maybe some time this year, but I daresay it'll be butchered in translation. Avoid any version of the anime like the plague.

Also rereading old volumes of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo.

I just finished "The Truth (with jokes)" by Al Franken... its simultaneously hilarious and frightening!

Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. Best. Book. Ever.

Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate

Very good book, a challenger to 1984 for best book i've read

The Kalahari Typing School for Men -Alexander McCall Smith

Mussolini - His Part In My Downfall -Milligan

The System -Haynes Johnson & David S. Broder

The last is a legendary book, illuminating as to how the American political system ticks along

Currently my Biology book.:(

But I'm going to start on "Demons and Angels" when my exams finish - can't wait!

Tom Lanoye - Boze tongen

Belgian writer. Really good book. Someone commits suicide with a leather ball in his mouth and a vibrator up his ass.

Crichton's novels Jurassic Park and The Lost World are so much better than the movies.

I'm reading Ayn Rand's ridiculously long masterpiece Atlas Shrugged.

Finished Physics (II)!

Now reading: The Communist Menifesto. D: D: D: *spasm*

I like anything with bright colors and breasts, Nuts is usually the best contender.

Actually I've just been reading loads of fanfictions by people, its nice because you know the author a bit, gives it a personal touch.

No way! I loved that collection! I desperately want to read it again but I have so much else on my plate right now it'll have to wait. Kerr's turn of phrase is awesome. And the historical side isn't bad either!

Magazines...magazines...magazines...!!! hmm i rele need to read a good book:p i just always pick one up, start it bt never finish...dearyme

No, you're absolutely wrong. It's all about totalitarianism. Look it up on Wikipedia if you don't believe me.

Wish I read more, to be honest.

I'm reading... a bunch of crap. The book I've been meaning to start for a while is The Time Traveler's Wife- supposed to be absolutely amazing.

Just finished up Nightwatch by Terry Pratchett, and last week it was The Watchmen. Right now I'm cleaning up some short stories that I hadn't read by Matheson, and waiting for the new Penny Arcade book to arrive. :D

I'll be honest with you, i've never read a fiction book in whole in my life.
At school i would never get a fiction book out, i'd always be the one who would get the books about space or engines or whatever, the teachers told me to read more fiction.
Due to my choice it's probably why i don't have a soceity impregnated set of moral values like most people.

woohoo, those three are some of my favorite books. Michael Chrichton is a great writer, and his books always start really awesome and originally, but often falls into cliches and the like getting further in :(

the only other book I've read by him, sphere, wasn't as well written but it had an interesting story.

Right now I'm reading survivor by chuck palahniuk (awesome guy), this book for a "club" called "revenge of the paste eaters"... it didn't look that interesting, it's a chick book, but they convinced me it was funny when they introduced it... it's not, it's one of the most unfunny things I've ever read, and it's boring as hell. I hate biographies. Autobiographies, whatever. Also, some little kid book called "coffin house" or something like that, it's pretty dumb, but what the hell.
