Some info on ATi/AMD's R600

It will be good to see these benchmarked. Although still no DX10 games. :(

I'm waiting still. Maybe they will come out with some nice revisions by the time some DX10 games get launched. And MS to fix some Vista issues...
At least it looks like ATI/AMD has their Vista drivers in shape.

The HD2900XTX is looking to be an absolute beast of a card. It's practically half a computer!

Lack of open source linux drivers. Damn you ATI.

Sick of using flgrx for my god damned X series machines.

*wants the highest card on the list*
But what's with the INSANE power usage?

I bet the 65nm version (80nm will come first) will lower the power by quite a bit. FYI the retail version is said to be 240watts (270 would be for the 12" card for OEMs).

Wonder how much power is being used by the sound chip that is built-in.

Edit:
How about some benchmark numbers.

wow they're making AGP versions ..would have thought that would phased out by now ..cant wait for comparisons with nvidia in dx10 games ..wont bother upgrading till I see some solid numbers in dx10

"AMD promised extremely competitive pricing, and in many cases the HD2900XT [HD2900XTX is their highest card] will beat the 8800GTX, yet alone the 8800GTS. To boot, the company decided to team up with Valve and offer a free bundle featuring a couple of upcoming hit titles."

Remember when 9800's came with a HL2 voucher? Oh yeah :D

So the second-best card in ATI's lineup is set to beat the GTX? D:

Supposedly. Could look quite nice, although it looks pretty good already !!

I'm still unsure whether to bite where DX10 is concerned. I'm still using my X1800XT that i bought 1 and a half years ago, and so far it's only really struggled with stalker a little, and company of heroes takes the odd dive below 20 fps or so on max settings. Just not sure DX10 is worth replacing what is still a pretty capable card.

I don't know. I was a bit disappointed in dailytech's article. Seriously, no one there (or that person) has a single monitor that can go higher than 1280x1024? Something seems off.

Also why would AMD be "demoing" (I use that term loosely) R600 and Barcelona in Tunisia and keeping a tight lid on it by NDAs, yet they allowed a site to go ahead and bench their most anticipated product and not even use their own cpu.

Yeah something is not right.

Guess this is why AMD is so hush-hush about their card:

This is with the XTX and XT models, using retail drivers at higher resolutions. Maybe the drivers are completely borked, but if manufacturers are not even considering the product. It has to be more than just the drivers.
The less than stellar performance benchmarks are no surprise to board partners and AMD insiders. Two independent ATI board builders told DailyTech that Radeon HD 2900 XTX will not be a part of their initial portfolios. Given the additional memory cost and bulky card footprint, it seems unlikely the XTX will ever see the light of day given its current performance.

Wow, pretty nasty. I actually wanted to buy this. I'd better buy an 8800 next month.

Holy **** those benchmarks are abysmal... This can't be happening, how could they **** this up after all this time in development?

hmm their new card reminds me of soemthing.

Well they took lots of great features like 1GB ram, and other high performance components, and combined them but didn't get a good result.

This Video card is like mixing a delicious pie with a delicious steak in a blender. ****in horrible. (I think it's safe to assume) ;)

Hmm... I'll wait for more benchmarks, but it's starting to look like my new card's going to be an 8000 series... which is really sad since ATI's treated me so well for the past couple generations

Personally i'll be waiting until a little after the release for final judgement.

There have been rumors before saying the XTX model will be released later which I believe. And the XTX model that was benchmarked was only 5mhz faster core than the XT model. And the 8800GTX was an OCed model vs ATI stock... Not saying the XTX will be a lot better but just saying what kind of benchmark is that? Plus Dailytech (known for news) isn't Anandtech (which is known for benchmarking).

Yeah and pricing. I mean the NDA isn't even up yet. lol
And they don't give many details on how they benchmarked. No good making judgment this early but so be it if it's the same after everything clears. I just hope ATI comes in with a good price/value. Not many people buy the highest card anyway. ;)

Don't forget that we have yet to see some dx10 benchies. Not that I expect the results to be different, but it's possible.

Yes, nothing is definite from one site running some benches. But I think for card manufacturers to pass it up (at least for now), they've seen more than just the dailytech numbers. Looks like we won't have to wait too much longer for numerous reviews. Should be interesting.

Stalker shouldn't really count, as the game is fundamentally flawed, especially the Dynamic Lighting methods. I do not believe for a second that nVidia did indeed help them develop the the game, as there are still many graphical artifacts (This s coming from a nVidia card user)

Yeah, this is what is of interest to me, if they can produce something that competes with the 8800GTS but for a little cheaper, then that's no bad thing, and it may end up in my machine if i decide to make the move to DX10. Still, a little disappointed that ATI haven't pulled something out of the bag sooner tbh.

****ering Shitnicks

I was planning on buying a couple 8800 Ultras, thinking they would be about $350

Let me get this straight - the 8800 GTX is about $330...

The difference between the 8800 GTX and the 8800 Ultra is what? Another 512MB? Anything else? I know 512MB shouldn't cost $570

Err the 8800 gtx is not 330 it's 530. If you know where to buy a gtx for 330 hook a brother up.

Aw shit. I must have been remembering the price for the GTS

Now I am even more disappointed.

This cheers me up a little, except that I own a x1900 GT
8800GTS customer review said:
Pros: I am a support technician and build PC's as a career. I couldn't play STALKER with x1950pro and decided to buy this card. It runs disgustingly great graphics, it's fast, smooth. I can't see any need to get crazier than this when I am running huge FPS with blown out settings, everything at max. If your like i am and read heavily into the reviews to decide on a product I am telling you right now that yes there is better out there but this card will run all games that are out right now with max settings. You won't be disappointed. SLI it down the road if you still want more.
Cons: I have yet to get this thing to choke. My 3dmark scores went from 4000 with x1950pro to 8000.. Yeah, sick.
Other Thoughts: It's big but whatever.. You want a good system keep a big case. You can always fit something smaller but if the case isn't big enough your trucked. Who knows what size tomorrows products will be.

ATI said in front of 150+ journalists that the R600XT won't be able to compete with the Geforce 8800 GTX. The dream is dead and Radeon HD 2900 XT won't be able to catch up with the six month old Geforce 8800 GTX.

This can't be true :*(

The XT is supposed to compete with the 8800GTS anyway...not just performance but price as well.

ATI slides? I dunno, I'm still waiting for that NDA to be lifted.
