Sony have done it again

In God of War do you actually sacrifice a goat or anything? Because yeah, it's related to the time era but I don't get the significance here. Am I right in thinking that God of War is that fighting game? Never played it so don't slate me if I'm wrong, I don't mean this as an attack either, just wondering.

well every enemy you kill is practically a sacrifice cuz you use your blood as a offer to the gods to make your weapons stronger, also some puzzles that require sacrifices
so it kinds of is

Ah, I see. I thought it was just a fancy Mortal Kombat game.

Well then shit, if more companys start doing this (see Gargantou's example) to promote their games then the next gamer to complain about Jack Thompson saying his opinion on the matter needs to be kicked in the face.

Oh wait, opinions don't go down to well for some people here...

Gargantou's example was retarded, and I think you missed that he meant it in jest (at least I hope he did).

When Sony starts killing little Jew kids and hanging them up at promotional events then yeah, they went too far.

No, I knew he meant in jest, just the example in general of more games doing this. Imagine something like this for a next Gears of War, or Silent Hill. The media/Thompson and co would go mad, and this time there'd be a good reason for it to happen if it was anything along the lines of this.

I'll wait for something to report this other than the glorified toilet paper that is the Mail.

I wonder if whoever is in charge 'sacrificed' some employee's jobs for that stunt, like they sacrificed that animal.

It's surprising that Sony claimed any responsibility, I mean, they didn't even make the game did they? Did they even publish it? They must be trying to make an image for themselves.

I won't be surprised if someone else is forced to resign after this blows over, assuming this really happened.

I'm not sure if some of you realize how much impact some of these animal rights, anti-violence, and anti-video game supporters have. This could actually have serious repercussions. Or, nothing will happen. We'll just have to find out later.

Personally, I don't care, but if new laws are passed banning violent games, or some other stupid problem arises that negatively affects me, well, I don't think I could like Sony any less as it is, but, it's possible.

This doesn't really have to do with the topic, but while we are talking about Sony, I was shopping last night, I saw 2 more broken PS3's.

I'll be damned if I would pay $600 for one of these, even If I really wanted one. I've only seen about 3 out of 20 PS3's working in all the various electronics stores I've seen the demo units. No lie! What a peice of shit. It's just unbelievable to me. I've never seen a non-working nintendo (going all the way back to the 8-bit demo units), and only on a couple occassions seen a non working Xbox or Xbox 360.

Maybe they should have spent that party money and get some refurbished PS3's in the store, instead of sniffing coke off a groupies' tits and giving eachother reach-arounds, if they really want to change their image. =P

Ok you seem to not know much about retail and displays. The sony displays you see in retail stores are not PS3 consoles. They are demo systems without the cell cpu. designed just for display and demo purposes.

Well whether you think they went too far, or they didn't really doesn't matter.

Sony should've realized this was going to offend someone. Just a stupid decision is all it is, and doesn't really effect the PS3 that much so who gives a ****?

Lots of things offend people. God of War offends people by itself, even without the dead goat. I really don't see this as that big of a PR blunder and you probably won't hear much about it outside of video game media. It's somewhat common for huge corporate or private parties to have sights such as this.

Not that I'm offended, but they have some seriously shitty PR/Marketing people working for that company. Most people would be bothered by that, and it just makes it easier for crazy people like JT to make an argument.

Is the Mail still the only source?

Every EB Games and Best Buy in my city has a playable PS3 kiosk, and easily half of them are frozen at any given moment.

Leave a PS3 and a X360 running in the same conditions. My X360 died and my PS3 is still running, both where bought at the same time and came brand new never used. To be fair those consoles on display get shit all airflow to cool them down.

sony certainly has an uncanny ability to make the most amatuerish of marketing mistakes ...if your aim is to offend in order to generate buzz at least try to throw in some positive ads every now and then so as to not look so clueless every time one of these things flop ..you've been feeding from the stupid trough too often lately sony ..take a cue from apple ..subtly goes a long way ...oh and immediately fire your pr firm

So wait... why do non-gamers have such incredibly poor opinions of gamers? Ahhh because gamers think stunts like this are "awesome." Personally I couldn't care less, but I'd be hard pressed to call something like this awesome. I guess I can understand pre-pubescent boys thinking it's cool or hard core or whatever. I guess at 30 this kind of stuff is simply stupid. Just another thing that makes gamers look like a sub-species of humanity through the eyes or non-gamers.

When people go into their local electronics store to try the PS3, they're actually not playing a PS3?

Try not to get defensive my friends, I really would like to know. I am not trying to anger anyone, but I just have some simple questions.

Why wouldn't they make a demo unit that works better? I mean, you would think they would put their best hardware in there. One of the rare Cell chips that has more than 4 cores working. Don't they claim to have 7 cores, but these are saved and sold for medical devices? So how many cores does a store bought PS3 have working? 4? 5? What does it say on the box? I hope it doesn't say 7 cores, because that would be a bold-face lie. I assume they cover their bases by just calling it "cell processor" and don't specify how many cores it has, because some people get 4 cores that work, and some get 5 cores that work, etc.

In addition, I might be being too realistic, but I don't think many people are inclined to buy something where the brand new demo unit has broken already. And it's been like this from the launch day. The day it was released I went into the game store (gamestop) and noticed that the PS3 wasn't turned on. I inquired within, and the guy at the counter said, it worked for about an hour. They were getting a new one ASAP.

The next time I went in there, they had gotten a new unit, but the console was frozen. I mean, even if I really wanted to own a PS3, I would be very sceptical about the durability at this point. Can you see why I am so sceptical? The kind people on the forum that owns a PS3 report no problems, so why didn't they use working, or more durable, better cooled PS3's in the store? That seems idiotic.

If I was Sony, the demo units should be the best examples of the product. For example, when you buy a microwave entree, the food on the box looks gourmet. That's what sells the product. But when you prepare the meal, it can often look nothing like whats on the box.

Does anyone know the answer to any of these questions?

sony responds to backlash:

summary by kotaku

# The party was held on March 1, and attended by around twenty European journalists (none from the UK).

# The actual article in the Official PlayStation mag was written by a guy who wasn't in attendance; the piece was done on the basis of the party's invite, "which employed a degree of hyperbole in order to encourage attendance".

# The goat in question had already been killed (ie it wasn't killed at the party), and had been sourced from a local butcher.

# The goat's "entrails" were actually bowls of traditional Greek meat soup. At no stage was anyone allowed to touch the goat, nor did anyone eat or drink anything from inside the goat. After the party, the carcass was returned to the butcher.

# SCEE say that they first saw the photo last Thursday and immediately ordered it to be pulled from the magazine, and on Friday Official PlayStation Mag agreed. The magazine never reached general circulation, but subscribers did receive the issue with the offending picture included.

# SCEE closed by saying: "We are conducting an enquiry to establish the circumstances behind the event in order to ensure this does not happen again. We also apologise to anyone offended by the article in the OPSM."

Seriously, why are people so angry out about this.

Because they are inciting violence by animal rights activist, possibly to the point when people start getting killed. When that happens, police get upset because of all the extra sh*t they have to deal with, something that could of been proactively prevented inthe first place.

Not all people are angry about the dead goat, most people are angry over other people's stupidity and apparent lack of common sense.
