Straight from steampowered.com news site

Also included in this portion of the beta is a Valve Source technology benchmark. The benchmark will be available to all beta participants via the main menu. Results will be displayed upon completion, and beta participants will then have the option to send the results to a Valve-hosted public web page tracking the results as done in prior Valve surveys.

I guess its not for everyone like some people have been saying :( ... this makes me a very sad panda ;(

wow sucks to be me in that case.
not that I needed it since I already tried CS:S (thanks to kingthebadger) on my two rigs.... but still its nice when I can see progress of any sort on hl2.

meh, valve you are teh sucksaurce

Have a friend who has CZ come to your house and login to steam.

He can benchmark your PC then logout, everything is fine and legal.

I really hope they launch a full featured benchmark by the end of this month for the whole community. I really wanna stress my computer at before hl2 comes out :(

Well hey....right now we can't download anything because the Steam Servers exploded....so dont' feel jealous

Can I download it?
I don't have CZ.
Is there any singleplayer that you guys are downloading?

It's only in the CS:S update

If your in the CS:Source beta test right now (available to only Condition Zero, and Ati voucher holders) you can download the VST

Out of luck for everybody else but them :(

doesnt make much sense. why would gabe get all these emails from different people and say because of it hes going to release the benchmark today so people can see how hl2 runs, and then only release it to people who are just interested in CS:S? makes no sense at all

We should all e-mail valve asking if our rigs will run HL2 now.

sounds good to me. seems like they are ignoring the ones who are most concerned about performance with hl2.

im not pissed. its smart for them to do this. hell, i almost bought cz just to get my hands on some playable source as soon as possible.

well fine if they want to be like that, the benchmark will turn up soon off of steam anyway. if they want people to buy CZ to use the bench thats ridiculous.

Dont buy HL2 voucher from ebay, thats such a waste
me: but its only ten dollars
it probably wouldnt even work
me: why not

w00w00t!!!!!!!

That sucks! It doesn't make much sense for Valve to have it exclusivly for the beta testers. If they release it to the public, they will get much more accurate statistics, and see what everyone else has got, not just people with either very high-end cards that had a coupon, or that own CZ. Perhaps they will run 2 benchmarks, one for CS:S'ers, and one for the general public. That would be somewhat, intellegent, could I say?

Also kinda makes ya wonder about the HL2 pre-load stuff. If a "benchmark" test is only for CZ/ATI people...

I guess we won't get the HL2 pre-loaded either until later which may include the benchmark. I'd really like the benchmark before it gets released though.

Don't fret about the benchmark. It's basically a flypast of the original 'tech demo' from E3 2003.

It's kerrrazy as well - my first bench was at 94FPS, the second at 38FPS. All I did was turn on aax2 and afx2 and it dropped by that much? Inconsistent for sure.

My rig is a P4 3.0Ghz with 1024MB DDR 400, 9800 Pro with cat 4.8.

If they don't release a demo nor a benchmark before the release then many people will warez HL 2 first to test how it runs on their pc. Don't understand this move tbh, hope they release the benchmark to everyone later on.

 I logged into steam at 4:00 am pst.. nothing happened! guess this is only for cs:source testers
:(

Valve doesnt make sense. Why is it only for CSS owners? What the hells the point of that? Can someone come up with a logical explanation to this?

Yes, so go buy CZ now! ;)

I usually support valves moves to do things, but this is really silly, people who own CZ are not the only people who want to know how well HL2 will run on there system!

Hopefully Valve will take heed of this and publicly release the Benchmark

The thing is you need the source "files" for the benchmark, since CZ owners get the CS Beta they tossed in the VST in the same time to simplify things. See what I mean?

Just wondering, does anyone know how big the engine is just on its own?

too bad he cant remember his e-mail

Lemme tell ya.. CS:S is a blast.. were just havin fun and reporting bugs at the same time. Its had its share.. but like others as well, i wanna find as many bugs as i can so the game can be shit hot for you guys who cant play right now.. dont worry guys, if you cant play the beta, im sure you all will be saying its worth the wait.

Who else thinks we should get that too? I guess they have to make all those PO'd people who baught vouchers and that crappy patch called CZ happy.

I can wait. Anyone who falls into the voucher or CZ catagory deserves something special. Because who ever has either of those is all ready "special"

You know, I was tempted to buy CS:CZ just so I could get this benchmark, not to mention play the CS beta!

Actually, during the peak hour when EVERYONE AND THEIR DOG was downloading it, I entered a random CD-key in the "register a game I already own" thing, and no shit it said this:

"The steam servers are too busy to validate your subscription. However, you can play Condition Zero in the meantime."

I had access to CZ and CS:S. It went away a few hours later though.

Hold on, Can you run this benchmark if you have the ATI Voucher? I think that's the only thing I have going for me.
