Space Marine

It certainly looks like an improvement over the information we have previously seen. however, I shall have to see some gameplay before I retract my statement that its just a DMC rip off with a different graphics set.

Also, Ultrasmurfs, boo.

Would much rather have a tactical shooter than a melee focussed game.

Fact: Every game released in the past 3 years contains a nuclear explosion.

FYI, this is not the same game whose footage leaked last year, this is done by Relic, the other game was done by a completely seperate studio, this was said by THQs PR rep himself on the official DoW2 forums.

so its GRIMDARK Dynasty warriors?

also smurfs are a placeholder chapter

During the in-game scenes shown at Relic's offices, space marines from the Ultramarine chapter (placeholders for now) chomp through masses and masses of orks, using jetpacks to propel themselves into the thick of them and spread them out by crashing down with a splash damage attack, before wading in with sawblades and hammers. Up against larger Nobs and Warbosses, they grind their blades against limb armour, or crash them into midriffs. From distance, they rely on their guns, emphasising their versatility, and Relic explains that the control scheme (although, again, just a placeholder) currently spreads melee attacks over face buttons and ranged ones onto the shoulders. Using Relic's new Phoenix engine - custom-built for the game - the enemy numbers, model quality and scale are every bit in-keeping with the 40k image that Games Workshop so valiantly asserts.

These guys were the ORIGINAL space marines before all of the hulking Gears of Copycats and such. I love all of these Games Workshop properties coming to life!! It looks pretty darn good, as does Blood Bowl, but we will see...

Also, Where The Hell is My THRUD THE BARBARIAN Game?????????

I had always been hoping for a space marine game to come out, but I dunno about third person melee combat. I wouldve perferred to hear that it was an FPS, maybe with some third person melee combat ala Jedi Outcast.

Space Marines are so ****ing boring.

I don't care.
If it says 40k on it, I'm buying it.

FIRE WARRIOR WAS AWESOME.

You know what I'd like? A Warhammer 40k game that has you playing as Space Wolves! They're the most badass chapter!

No they suck balls! It's all about black templar!

I want a Guardsmen shooter.

It consists of you dying, over and over and over again.

What, there would be an achievement for cheating death for at least 10 seconds of game time

Im still waiting for Gas Powered to bring out an Epic 40,000 game, with titans and all that

You both need to get out! There needs to be a Dark Angels game!

More seriously, the character of the Space Wolves would fit quite well with the apparent focus of this game (that being getting in close and chopping things into tiny pieces) and they probably have more appeal to the average gamer than the BT (what with being space vikings, some of whom are also warewolves rather than a bunch of religious lunatics)

The best Space Marines are the Iron Warriors. Chaos without the ridiculous amount of loose flesh and flailing tentacles. Just good old armoured war machines out to kill every mother****er that stands in their way.

There should be more emphasis on the Iron Warriors in the actual 40K game. Far as I remember, they released a box set of a squad and that's it. Everything else has to be customized specifically through bits and bobs. I think.

There already was a Dark Angels 40k game, called Space Hulk(The original, not the sequel) for DOS, Amiga etc, it had you playing as the Deathwing Company, of the Dark Angel chapter.

And it was AWESOME. And so was the sequel, though pretty different. :-)

Yeah, the original was closer to the actual Space Hulk boardgame, whereas the PSX(and PC) sequel was a lot more action-focused.

Death wing compay, Dark Angels Chapter (lots of random mouth movements). Budadadada (assault cannon)

that looks a lot better than that other crap we saw earlier.
Yeah, as I said earlier in the thread, this is done by Relic, the leaked footage from last year was when the project was in the hand of another dev, from what I understand, the leak was because THQ shut down the project(or rather, gave it to Relic), the original devs got pissy and decided to leak the footage to piss off THQ.

In other words, the W40k: Space Marine game we're seeing now is being developed by a completely different team.
