IMHO All of the Descent Games rocked.
I have:
Descent
Descent Level of the World
Descent 2
Descent 3
Freespace
Freespace 2

I loved Freespace 2. Since you are in space, you can explore different ways to do things. And it is not based on reality so you cannot complain

Why cant I find this "elite" game on gamespot?

When he made a thread on whether he should buy it or not, the people at HLP (Hard Light Productions, the largest, pretty professional, full of SKILLED people, FS community still largely active today) contacted him and stuff, and he brushed them off as "piddley fans and small modders" even though they undertook the Source Code project and basically MADE what can be though of as Freespace 2.5

what is this freespace 2.5 you speak of ?

i've found a few sites but what exactly is this ?

ok, ive spent the last few days downloading the HOTU version of freespace 2, frespace open, the media.vp files and im currently stuck with 2 others (we are uploading to a fourth) at 91% on the .vp files on edonkey (maybe someone with the full file could log in and help us out?) all at about 5kb/s

i sure hope its worth it...

This thread basically ended at the mention of Freespace. I honestly don't see how anything can compete with it, especially considering the work that's been put into FS2 by the community - huge graphical overhauls and the like.

I said thought of as FS 2.5.

It's not like there's a box that says "FREESPACE 2.5" lol

It's called (officially) "The Source Code Project"

Go to the Hard Light Productions forums (unsure of the link, google will get it in a heartbeat) and go to the entire section of the site dedicated to it. A clanmate of mine, LOA--PhReAk is one of the contributors to the project.

The guy who developed most old-school Elite games released it into public domain, I recommend downloading Elite Plus and running it using DOSBox.

Hey guys sry to rez rhis thread with a stupid question, but for me it is important.

See I downloaded elite from this site gargantou posted the a7100000 or so version, you can find it in the archives. It works fine, there is only a little problem, the same problem I am having with more exe files, when ever I try to remove them it say's they are in use by a program, even if I did not even start elite form the moment I rutend my pc on till I tried to remove it,

I even tried going in to safe mode and turning all unnecesary processes of, but it still can't be removed. Well so has anyone here experience with this kind of behavior, is my comp ****ed up or is this normal under windows, do I have ot do anything special or have any special program to remove this.

ok, sorry for bringing this thread up again but i finally (finally) got all the freespace 2 files...

these are the ones i have:

Freespace 2 HOTU
All .VP files
Freespace 2 open
Media .VP files for fs2open
All the movies

now... how do i go on installing these?
